Title: The Late Sam Neill’s Final Movie Might Be The Legend Of Zelda Date: Thu, 06 Aug 2026 20:57:35 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-late-sam-neills-final-movie-might-be-the-legend-of-zelda/ The cast for the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda movie is becoming clearer, and a report indicates that the legendary New Zealand actor Sam Neill, who died in July at the age of 78, has a role in the game-to-film adaptation. Deadline reports that Neill, best known to audiences as Dr. Alan Grant in three Jurassic Park films, filmed his role in the Wes Ball-directed movie prior to his death. Principal production wrapped in April. Neill's role is unknown, but Deadline adds that Chuck actor Yvonne Strahovski is also in the film's cast, apparently as a "queen character." It wouldn't be unreasonable to predict that Neill could play the king of Hyrule. Sharing the screen with Neill and Strahovski will be Severance's Dichen Lachman, who was spotted in set photos shortly after production began. Fan speculation pointed towards Lachman portraying Impa, who is usually a caretaker or protector to Princess Zelda in many of the games. Deadline's sources appear to corroborate these fan theories. The Legend of Zelda film is one of three movies that Neill is set to make a posthumous appearance in, the two others being Godzilla x Kong: Supernova (releasing March 26) and a romantic comedy titled The Last Resort. Depending on when the latter comes out, The Legend of Zelda could be Neill's final role. A survivor of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, Neill ultimately passed from pneumonia. Other than Jurassic Park, Neill's most famous film appearances include Possession, Event Horizon, and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, along with some tongue-in-cheek cameos in Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder. The Zelda cast rounds out with Australian actor Uli Latukefu reportedly playing the villainous Ganondorf, facing off against Benjamin Evan Ainsworth's Link and Bo Bragason's Princess Zelda. The Legend of Zelda premieres on April 30, 2027.
Title: PSA: Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Has Day-One Issues On PC Date: Thu, 06 Aug 2026 20:55:20 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/psa-marvel-tokon-fighting-souls-has-day-one-issues-on-pc/ Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is out today, but PC players are experiencing some problems with the game that their PlayStation 5 counterparts don't have have to deal with. Developer Arc System Works noted that the PC port had issues during the open beta last month and it pledged to fix them with a patch on day one. However, PC players are reporting that Marvel Tokon is still suffering from the same problems that made it nearly unplayable during the beta. As explained by a player on Reddit, Marvel Tokon on PC is plagued by dropped frame rates and stutter regardless of the specs of the machines being used. "It's a problem that [Arc System has] to fix on their side, you can't do anything about it," writes Davids Symphony. "You could be running a 5090 with a 9800X3D at the lowest settings and it'll still happen." Players who were hoping to take Marvel Tokon for a spin on Steam Deck have also been disappointed to find that it can't even launch in Steam OS/Linux. "The best part is the community manager on discord saying that, 'Asking for Linux support is like asking for a Switch port,'" writes Rinnekaton on Reddit. "The game uses EAC, and I don't even need to mention that EAC is widely supported on Linux. Linux support for EAC being a simple toggle (direct words from Valve themselves) is common knowledge at this point. In no way is it like porting to Switch." While it's unknown if or when Arc Systems will address Marvel Tokon's compatibility with Steam Deck, the developer has shared the details about its day-one patch. In the meantime, Arc Systems has unveiled a roadmap for Marvel Tokon's upcoming DLC. The first new fighter slated to be added to the lineup this fall is Phoenix Cyclops, a cosmic-powered incarnation of the character from 2012's Avengers vs. X-Men crossover event. In that story, Cyclops, White Queen, Namor, Colossus, and Magik were each given a portion of the Phoenix Force that remade them into god-like beings. If the game follows a similar direction, other members of the Phoenix 5 could be added later. The current patch notes are below. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Day One Patch Notes Performance Optimizations (Primarily for the PC SKUs) Removed unnecessary character animation updates from being performed; resulting in a reduced CPU load. Made improvements to alleviate the load on the user interface update. Made improvements to address an issue where performance significantly deteriorated when running applications that use overlays or capture video. OBS Studio: Video capture via Game Capture & Discord: Overlays, Video Capture. Added an anti-aliasing option to the automatic graphics quality setting to ensure that the appropriate anti-aliasing option is applied based on performance and prevents unintended load increases. Fixed an issue that enabled unintended anti-aliasing plug-ins (e.g. DLSS, FSR, XeSS). Also included a feature to the custom graphics quality settings and effect options that allow you to change the update frequency of the stage background characters. Selecting medium quality of low quality will reduce the update frequency and slightly reduce the load on the CPU. Have set the prompt inquiring about performing a shade warm-up at startup to ON by default, making it easier to find and perform a shader warm-up. Fixed an issue that caused the shader warm-up to run unintentionally at startup. Steam Version: Fixed an issue that caused a delay in sending input data during online matches; resulting in improved online match performance. PS5 Version: Implemented additional measure to mitigate input lag. Other Fixes Game Screen - Fixed an issue where the game would automatically switch between monitors on setups that featured multiple monitors. Online Lobby - Fixed an issue where some players would become invisible after viewing rankings in Ranked Mode and then enter the Online Lobby. Ranked Mode - Fixed an issue where the screen would become distorted when a large number of digits were displayed. Game Server Connectivity - Improved communication stability between the client and the game server. Mouse - Fixed an issue where the game would sometimes crash when using the mouse too quickly in the game's menus. Text Optimization - Fixed an issue where performance was significantly reduced when large amounts of text were on screen; particularly when set to Arabic or Thai. Connectivity- Fixed an issue where the game would become unplayable if the network connection was lost during the Challenger Alert screen. Gameplay Adjustments Input Optimization - Changed the input prioritization to 236 < 623 < 236 after 41236, allowing for a more accurate activation of 623 when using the input 6236. Danger - Revised the input handling for ground dashes. Have made it possible to cancel into a skill from a ground dash to make it less likely for aerial special moves to be accidentally triggered.
Title: 25 Best First-Person Shooters You Can’t Miss In 2026 Date: Wed, 19 Feb 2025 15:00:00 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/best-fps-games/2900-6265/ Since the genre was first conceived, first-person shooters have pushed the envelope of how video games can create exciting, intense experiences for players. The idea of taking part in your own ridiculous action movie is part of what made the video games industry worth hundreds of billions, and over the years, the FPS genre has given rise to some truly standout games. From multiplayer competitive games to immersive VR experiences, they might all be first-person shooters, but they're often very different from one another. Below is a list of the best FPS games you can play right now, from all over the map. While there are classics out there that still hold up, like Doom and Half-Life, we're focusing on newer games that are easy to find, easy to play, and easy to lose yourself in. These are the shooters you should absolutely play, whether you're looking for deep stories, interesting mechanics, multiplayer mayhem, or a combination of them all. If you're interested in more than just first-person games, check out our list of the best shooters overall, which also incorporates third-person shooters and shoot-'em-ups. Halo: The Master Chief Collection Developer: Bungie Release Date: November 11, 2014 Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC When Bungie first released Halo in 2001, it changed the landscape of console shooters. Traversing huge battlefields on foot or in vehicles, where enemies would fight not only you but one another, Halo really nailed the feeling of fighting through a world that was alive around you. The Master Chief Collection brings all the classic Bungie Halo games together in one package, with both updated and original graphics and their phenomenal, highly influential multiplayer modes, as well. MCC is one of the games on this list available through Xbox Game Pass. See Game Pass at Amazon See at Best Buy Featured in this image Halo: The Master Chief Collection View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Team Fortress 2 Developer: Valve Release Date: October 10, 2007 Platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC In a lot of ways, Valve's class-based team multiplayer shooter remains the gold standard for the genre. With a bunch of clearly delineated roles to play on any given team, Team Fortress 2 is great at making you feel like you're stepping into a specific job that's essential to your team's victory. The nine classes--Soldier, Heavy, Scout, Pyro, Demoman, Medic, Spy, Sniper, and Engineer--also set a precedent that's still copied and iterated on by other games. Team Fortress 2's class system is great at making it feel like you're working together with your teammates, even when you're going it alone and chasing your own goals, and it's still as fun and hilarious today as it was when it first came out in 2007. That said, the PC version is the only one that received the many years of updates and changes, so that's the ideal one to play today. It's one of the best free games on Steam. See on Steam Featured in this image Team Fortress 2 View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Half-Life: Alyx Developer: Valve Release Date: March 23, 2020 Platforms: PC (VR required) Virtual reality has become a home for highly realistic shooter experiences, with Half-Life: Alyx setting the bar for all of them. With extremely tight controls and physics mechanics, Alyx does a great job of bringing a powerful realism to the genre. It's also an excellent return to the world of Half-Life, adding to the storied and beloved franchise in new and fascinating ways. Half-Life: Alyx immerses you into its game world with a ridiculous amount of interactivity, and it mixes together action, stealth, and horror through the course of its campaign to provide a bunch of intense, disparate experiences that show just how powerful VR can be. Alyx was GameSpot's Game of the Year in 2020, and it's one of the best VR games you can play right now. See on Steam Advertisement Black Mesa Developer: Crowbar Collective Release Date: March 6, 2020 Platforms: PC Half-Life is a monolithic title on the shooter landscape, helping to establish what video game campaigns could be and setting a precedent that countless other games would follow. Unfortunately, games have come a long way since 1998, and Half-Life doesn't always keep up with modern expectations. The good news is that we have Black Mesa, a fan-developed remake of Half-Life that modernizes the game and expands on it while keeping everything that made Half-Life awesome, from its gunplay to its excellent level design. Black Mesa is a worthy revitalization of a classic in the genre, and a must-play, whether you're an old hand at Half-Life or have never played it before. See on Steam Featured in this image Black Mesa View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Counter-Strike 2 Developer: Valve Release Date: August 21, 2012 Platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC There are two major branches of FPS evolution: games that hew to a more arcade style, and games that are more realistic and intense, opting for guns that are as lethal in the game as they are in real life. Counter-Strike 2 is the poster child of the latter path, featuring battles that are over in moments, with one or two shots bringing down any player. With death so close at hand, caution, teamwork, tactics, and skill become paramount to victory, creating a tougher, more intense FPS experience than most games provide. Counter-Strike 2 has been a mainstay of the genre for more than a decade, and it's just as good now as it was in 2012. See on Steam Featured in this image Counter-Strike 2 View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Destiny 2 Developer: Bungie Release Date: September 6, 2017 Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC While it's had its ups and downs over the years, Destiny 2 has always enjoyed excellent underlying mechanics, allowing it to take the ball from Bungie's Halo games and run with it. Destiny 2 has great gunplay, sure, but it's the way the game combines platforming and special abilities, alongside some all-timer team activities like raids, that really makes it stand out. Its live-game elements have been honed over years and continue to set pace for a lot of the genre, but even if it's not your "forever game," there are a lot of excellent moments and missions in Destiny 2 that no other shooter comes close to delivering. See on Fanatical Featured in this image Destiny 2 View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Call Of Duty: Warzone Developer: Raven Software, Infinity Ward Release Date: March 10, 2020 Platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC As the battle royale trend swept through the shooter genre, the Call of Duty series sprinted to catch up, and the eventual result was Warzone. The free-to-play mode mixes a bunch of the best elements of the mega-popular franchise with the underlying battle royale formula, giving you a combination of Call of Duty's fast-paced and varied combat and the lengthy, careful, strategy-driven battles that mark BR. Warzone has also integrated a bunch of cool innovations, including the Gulag--where you can fight for a chance to respawn--loadout drops that let you get your own custom weapons on the battlefield, and systems like bounties and weapon purchases that have expanded on BR gameplay and branched out to other games in the subgenre. Warzone is an excellent change of pace from normal Call of Duty multiplayer and a worthy addition to battle royale at large, creating a unique experience among a lot of similar games. See on Steam Featured in this image Call of Duty: Warzone View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Titanfall 2 Developer: Respawn Entertainment Release Date: October 28, 2016 Platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC With a phenomenal single-player campaign, super-fluid movement controls, and a brilliant gameplay gimmick, Titanfall 2 is a standout shooter experience. The underlying idea is that you play a Pilot--a human character who's extremely agile--with the ability to leap to extreme heights, run along walls, and otherwise parkour across the battlefield. As a Pilot, you can also drive a huge bipedal mech called a Titan, which you can summon from orbit and use to fight other mechs (or to squash unlucky Pilots who are still on foot). Titanfall 2 uses those mechanics and killer storytelling to create one of the best campaigns in the shooter genre, while also offering a dynamic multiplayer mode that continually swaps between fast-paced, intense parkour battles and big, stomping mech action. Fluid movement, great gunplay, and an excellent story make Titanfall 2 a modern classic. See on Best Buy Featured in this image Titanfall 2 View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Doom Eternal Developer: id Software Release Date: March 20, 2020 Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC The revitalization of Doom in 2016 put a modern spin on a lot of the elements that made the original Doom games so fun to play and so impactful on the shooter landscape. Its follow-up, Doom Eternal, honed that formula to a razor-sharp point you then use to disembowel some demons. An intense, super-satisfying combat loop has you blasting enemies and then ripping them apart or chainsawing them, with each specific way of killing enemies turning them into pinatas of stuff you need, like health, ammo, and armor. Coupled with big, often-vertical arenas, every battle in Doom Eternal is an exercise in quick thinking, fast movements, and keeping track of all your resources to keep yourself alive against overwhelming odds. It's a near-perfect melding of everything good about old-school Doom with new-school ideas. See at Fanatical Featured in this image DOOM Eternal View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Wolfenstein: The New Order Developer: MachineGames Release Date: March 20, 2016 Platforms: Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC Developer MachineGames made its debut with a sort-of-reboot of id Software's first-person shooter classic, and much like the revamp of Doom, it successfully melds a classic feel with more modern sensibilities. Wolfenstein: The New Order updates the original first-person shooter with ridiculous action and some phenomenal shooting mechanics, relying on elements like speed, dual-wielding, and overpowering your enemies. Even better, though, is the way Wolfenstein builds out an alternate history, tells a fascinating story, humanizes one of video games' oldest protagonists, and gives you plenty of opportunities to blast Nazis. See at Fanatical Featured in this image Wolfenstein: The New Order View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Superhot Developer: Superhot Team Release Date: February 25, 2016 Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, Switch, PC, Quest The rise of super-popular first-person shooters over the years has made the genre one of the most ubiquitous in games, with a lot of games providing very similar experiences as a result. Superhot makes shooting into a puzzle with a simple but fascinating gimmick: Time nearly freezes when you stop physically moving. That gives you the opportunity to figure out the best way to navigate highly lethal battles with enemies, strategizing the perfect way to take them all down before their bullets and blows catch up to you. Superhot engages your shooter brain in a completely different way, and that makes it an essential experience. There's also a VR version that makes the whole experience even more immersive. See at Fanatical Featured in this image SUPERHOT View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Valorant Developer: Riot Games Release Date: June 2, 2020 Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC With hero shooters like Overwatch, the competitive shooter genre took on a new dimension, expanding on the idea of classes to create a new brand of customization for players and play styles. What Valorant brings to shooters is another evolutionary branch by combining two others: hero shooters and tactical shooters. Valorant is Counter-Strike with Overwatch characters, creating a highly strategic competitive experience that requires a lot of skill and intelligent play. The reward is a shooter experience that stands apart from most of the rest of the genre, offering something that's familiar but different from just about every other competitive shooter out there. See on Valorant official website Featured in this image Valorant View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Ultrakill Developer: Arsi "Hakita" Patala Release Date: September 3, 2020 (early access) Platforms: PC Super fast and ultra-violent, Ultrakill is a perfect example of the "boomer shooter"--a modern shooter built in the style of early FPS classics like Doom, Quake, and Unreal Tournament. It's all about speedy movement and twitch reactions, smashing through enemy after enemy in a world built from crunchy graphics and heart-pumping music. Ultrakill is about speedily and skillfully wrecking house, running and leaping all over the place as you pump everything in sight full of lead, with the game keeping track of all your cool accomplishments and rattling off points as a reward. Ultrakill is a heightened reimagining of shooters of the past, focusing on intensity more than anything else. See at Fanatical Featured in this image ULTRAKILL View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Neon White Developer: Angel Matrix Release Date: June 16, 2022 Platforms: PC, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 Neon White is a shooter, a puzzle platformer, and a visual novel all woven together. Your goal is to clear levels as fast as you can, which is as much about running and leaping as it is about landing your shots. Using specific weapons and abilities is essential, because the fastest times come from hitting enemies in the right order and with the right weapons. Figuring out how to master a level is a huge part of the experience, as is uncovering the strange story underpinning it all, in which you play a dead sinner freed from Hell by authoritarian angels to clean up a bunch of demons who are annoying the residents of Heaven. Neon White is incredibly good at combining clever level design with intense speed, and blasting your way through its stages is always exciting. See at Fanatical Featured in this image Neon White View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Far Cry 4 Developer: Ubisoft Montreal Release Date: November 18, 2014 Platforms: Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation , PC When Far Cry 3 hit the gaming landscape in 2012, it more or less solidified Ubisoft's brand of open-world game design, while also setting the template for the Far Cry franchise after two games that were very different, both from Far Cry 3 and from each other. With Far Cry 4, Ubisoft perfects the good parts of Far Cry 3, while jettisoning most of the bad ones--including its overwrought story. Far Cry 4 has all the classic Ubisoft elements that have you fighting across a huge landscape, capturing territory for a resistance group as you square off against a charismatic and interesting villain, and it does so while telling a compelling narrative of a nation trying to determine its own future as it fights to cast off a dictator. All the best parts of Far Cry are represented, from a huge amount of freedom in exploration, to tons of enemies to take down stealthily or with guns blazing, to side quests that require you to hunt animals and seek out better equipment to advance. Far Cry 4 is the best of the series, dialing in what's great about its approach and the Ubisoft formula overall. See at Humble Featured in this image Far Cry 4 View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Battlefield 6 Developer: Battlefield Studios Release Date: October 10, 2025 Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC Battlefield 6 isn't the most forward-thinking of the Battlefield series--in fact, it's expressly a "return to roots" take on the storied franchise, invoking older games like Battlefield 3 in its mission--but sometimes, focusing on what you're good at is exactly the right approach. Battlefield 6 leans hard into the series mainstays, bringing back character classes and pushing elements like map destruction in a more tactical direction. With huge, well-built maps, a ton of vehicles, and a few new modes to revitalize the underlying formula, Battlefield 6 is an excellent return to form that taps into what players have liked about the series since its inception. See on Steam Advertisement Deathloop Developer: Arkane Lyon Release Date: September 14, 2021 Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC Deathloop comes from Arkane Lyon, the same studio that created the Dishonored series, and you can feel how the latter informs the former despite their differences. Deathloop is a shooter in the vein of immersive sims, where you have a ton of freedom (and some spiffy special powers, just like in Dishonored) to commit some murders. On a strange island full of endlessly partying inhabitants, you're actually working through a time loop. Your ultimate goal is to kill several key targets scattered around the island in a single day in order to escape the loop, but until then, you're using the repetition of a single day to learn everything you can about your enemies so you can finally take them down. Throwing a wrench into this is the fact that there's another time looper who's trying to stop you, introducing some (optional) multiplayer mayhem as other players will sometimes invade your game as the hunter and try to take you down. Deathloop is a phenomenal exercise in what modern immersive sims and shooters can be, giving you all sorts of guns and powers to use to figure out the perfect way to eliminate your enemies. See at Fanatical Featured in this image Deathloop View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Metro Redux / Metro Exodus Developer: 4A Games Release Date: August 26, 2014 / February 15, 2019 Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Switch The Metro series captured the attention of players all over the world, and not just because of its intense post-apocalyptic setting and the shooter elements, like jamming guns, scarce ammo, and dark tunnels, that go with it. The Metro games are also known for engaging stories, based on a series of novels by the same name, in which survivors of a nuclear apocalypse in Moscow eke out a living in the train tunnels beneath the city. That setting allows Metro to combine elements of action, stealth, and survival-horror, sending you through a dark, strange world that's inhabited by deadly mutants and deadlier factions. The formula has only been improved by developer 4A Games over the life of the franchise, with Metro Exodus taking players to the surface and adding locations that use an open-world-style approach. See at Fanatical Featured in this image Metro Exodus View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Killing Floor 2 Developer: Tripwire Interactive Release Date: May 14, 2009 / November 18, 2016 Platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC There are hordes of zombies to shoot in Killing Floor 2, so you need to team up with some friends and do the shooting. That's a pretty significant simplification of what the co-op wave-based games offer, though. With a host of different weapons and perks at your disposal each run, Killing Floor 2 brings a roguelike sensibility to their intense, spooky action. You start by picking perks, which basically function as classes, taking on specific roles on your team, and working together is essential for survival. Killing Floor 2 offers the same exciting wave-based action that you might get from something like Call of Duty's Zombies mode, while packing in all sorts of clever ideas, as well as a ton of developer support that brings interesting changes, holiday events, and more. The game uses the traditional Metroid formula of exploring a huge map, discovering upgrades for your character, and using those upgrades to unlock new pathways through areas you've previously traversed, but amps it up with first-person platforming and some of the series' deepest storytelling. More than anything, Metroid Prime fully delivers the feeling of exploring an alien world as you scan everything you can see to find out about the planet's ecology and the villains who have come to despoil it. The Ghostrunner games are all about speed and precision, requiring you to move around levels as a cyberpunk ninja, using a bunch of parkour abilities to avoid getting shot so that you can get in close and slice apart your enemies with a sword. Moving as fast as you can is the main focus of Ghostrunner, and along with the ability to slow time and deflect bullets, going fast allows you to clear rooms like a deadly blur. You team up with friends to hunt down monsters tearing their way out of Hell and hiding out in dank bayous filled with zombies. The goal is to hunt down and eliminate a powerful monster and escape the area with its bounty--but you're not the only people trying to do so. Firing your bolt-action rifle and other old-timey weapons always runs the risk of exposing yourself to other players, who are as willing to kill you as the supernatural horrors lurking in the swamps. The combination of Hellbound creatures and deadly other players makes every run of Hunt: Showdown memorable, bringing a real horror vibe to the extraction-shooter formula. Echo Point Nova starts with this peanut butter-and-chocolate combination, then expands on the idea by literally expanding on the space you get to traverse. Armed with a bunch of guns, a grappling hook, and a hoverboard that lets you speed around landscapes, zip up walls, and fly through the air, you'll take on combat challenges across a huge number of floating islands in a huge open-world battle space. Making your way around the high-flying world of Echo Point Nova is just as much fun blowing up mercenaries and mechs along the way, and the combination makes for a shooter experience that is, in a word, joyous. Still images don't really do Echo Point Nova justice--check out the trailer instead. Each level is a fast-paced sandbox where you need to find a way to complete an objective--which is often just killing everybody in your way--with a bunch of creative ways to do that. You can headshot everyone with a pistol, or empty your gun and then heave it at guys before following up with a quick stomp to finish them off, or shoot down a beehive and let nature handle it for you. Hey, there's a bear trap, why not chuck it at a guy's head? Cool, a rocket launcher, time to leap off this tree and send a shell into those explosive barrels and take down a whole group of guys before you hit the ground. Sprinting, parkouring, and shooting are all I Am Your Beast knows and all it wants to know, and it hits those elements so well that mastering each level is a blast. The minimalist story and writing are great, too, providing a few hilarious and empathic moments to keep pulling you along into each new challenge. Doom (2016) was about speed and raw aggression, and Doom Eternal added a more strategic requirement. Doom: The Dark Ages takes the foundation of both and iterates again, mixing their fast pace with a new shield. Almost counterintuitively, having this defensive option actually allows you to be more aggressive. Instead of running from enemies or circling to find opportune targets and recover resources, you can now charge straight through enemy attacks or even parry them back. The rebooted Doom games already pushed the shooter genre forward in interesting new ways by melding old-school feel and modern mechanics; The Dark Ages adds a new twist that refreshes it all again, in fascinating ways. It also offers something a little more low-key than your usual shooter fare, making it a great change of pace from competitive games and heart-pounding spectacle. PowerWash is exactly what it sounds like: you're a guy who cleans stuff using a powerwasher, choosing from different nozzles and attachments to get the job done effectively and efficiently. Wandering around different environments, zapping all the dirt you can see, is both fun and extremely chill, providing the mechanical satisfaction that comes with shooters but in a more relaxing atmosphere. Depending on how you play, the sprawling metropolis of Night City--where towering corporations, cybernetic enhancements, and ruthless gangs shape everyday life--could also be a nightmare. Playing as the mercenary V, you'll need to take on a selection of dangerous contracts, forge alliances with characters of varying moral fiber, and carve out your own path through a story packed with high-stakes choices, stealth sections, and all-guns-blazing shootouts. It's a great example of co-op FPS not slowing you down but improving the gameplay, as you can team up with up to three other robot-bounty-hunters taking on an army of frontier-inspired foes, from raging bulls and deadly vultures to reanimated skeletons armed with six-shooters. Success requires you to switch weapons on the fly, upgrade your gear with tact, and dual-wield your way through relentless battles. Between the frantic shootouts and the ability to customize your trusty horse, Far Far West manages to offer something a bit special to a fairly saturated market. A simple premise, but one that doesn't get old when there's a vast difference between each Legend's skill set, and plenty of seasonal updates and customization to explore. If you crave the creative freedom of a huge arsenal of weapons at your disposal while you coordinate with your squad, or live for those split-second decisions as you fight through intense firefights and shrinking safe zones… you really can't go wrong with Apex Legends. Title: The Legend Of Zelda Movie–Here’s What We Know So Far Date: Mon, 17 Nov 2025 15:17:00 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/the-legend-of-zelda-movie-release-date-trailer-story/2900-6252/ Zelda heads to the big screen Following the massive success of Nintendo's The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Nintendo is returning with a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie. The company is leaning into non-gaming projects like this as part of a planned effort to reach people in new ways outside of games. The Zelda movie crossed a major development milestone recently when it finished filming in New Zealand. It is a co-production between Nintendo and Sony Pictures, with Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto producing. Marvel veteran Avi Arad is another producer on the movie. Nintendo and Sony Pictures are co-financing the movie, with Nintendo's financial stake standing at more than 50%. Sony Pictures will distribute the film globally. In this post, we're rounding up everything we know about the Zelda movie. Advertisement What is the Zelda movie about? Neither Nintendo nor production partner Sony Pictures have released the official plot synopsis for the Zelda movie. But it's a safe bet to guess that the movie will feature popular characters from the renowned RPG series, including Zelda and Link, as well as Ganondorf. The Zelda series is full of fantastical characters and environments, and it'll be interesting to see what kind of story Nintendo decides to tell, or if the film could be an adaptation of a specific game. A key difference between the Zelda movie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie (and its sequel) is that the Zelda movie is a live-action production as opposed to an animated feature film. Advertisement When is the Zelda movie coming out? The Zelda movie was originally set for its premiere in March 2027, but it was later delayed it to May 2027. Then it was brought forward to April 30. Miyamoto said of the latest change, "We have decided to change the worldwide theatrical release date of the live-action film The Legend of Zelda from May 7, 2027 to April 30, 2027. In order to deliver it to everyone even one day sooner, the team is united in advancing production. It's less than a year until release, but please wait just a little longer." It will be the third Nintendo movie in four years, following The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026). Nintendo has said it wants to ramp up its moviemaking efforts so it has a steady cadence of releases going forward. Advertisement Who's going to be in the Zelda movie? In mid-July 2025, Nintendo confirmed the main actors for the Zelda movie. Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason, and Link will be portrayed by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth. "I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen," veteran Nintendo developer Shigeru Miyamoto wrote in a social media post. An English actress, Bragason's first major role was in the 2017 television series Three Girls, and she also appeared in the 2021 horror film Censor. Since then, she has had several more roles in TV series and films. Interestingly, she also voiced a young version of the character Luna in Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy, a 2021 CG-animated film that tied in to Final Fantasy 15. Ainsworth is also an English actor, and his previous acting credits include The Haunting of Bly Manor, Flora & Ulysses, and Pinocchio. While not confirmed, it's rumored that Severance actor Dichen Lachman will appear in the movie as Impa. It's also rumored that Uli Latukefu will play Ganondorf. The late Sam Neill, who just recently passed from cancer, is also reportedly in the film--though his role remains unclear--and Chuck star Yvonne Strahovski may be playing a queen character. Advertisement Is there a trailer for the Zelda movie? There is no trailer for the Zelda movie yet, and there likely won't be one soon. Rest assured, though, whenever a trailer is released, it'll be a big deal that gets the internet talking. Advertisement Who's directing the Zelda movie? The live-action Zelda movie will be directed by Wes Ball, who is known for his work on the Maze Runner series and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The filmmaker wants to swing for live-action Hayao Miyazaki aesthetics with The Legend of Zelda movie, as well as for it to "feel like something real. It remains to be seen exactly what that means, however. Ball, the director, previously teased his vision for the Zelda movie. "I have this awesome idea," he said. "I've been thinking about it for a long freakin' time, of how cool a Zelda movie would be... I want to fulfill people's greatest desires. I know it's important, this [Zelda] franchise, to people and I want it to be a serious movie. A real movie that can give people an escape." Advertisement What about that Zelda TV show? Years ago, it was reported that Nintendo and Netflix were in discussions for a live-action Zelda TV series. It was reported that the TV show was aiming to be "Game of Thrones for a family audience." Nintendo responded to the report, but never flat-out denied it. In any event, though, a live-action Zelda TV show is not happening anytime soon. Advertisement Leaks from set Filming for the Zelda movie began in November 2025 in New Zealand. Someone appeared to have gotten close enough to the set to film some video, providing a first glimpse at the production. Advertisement Nintendo releases the first official images In November 2025, following leaks from the movie's set, Nintendo released the first production stills--and they are quite spectacular. Advertisement Finished filming Filming wrapped on The Legend of Zelda in April 2026. The movie doesn't hit theaters until May 2027, but there is likely significant post-production work to be done ahead of release. Advertisement
Title: GTA 6 Trailer Being Paywalled Behind Netflix Is Upsetting A Lot Of People, But It’s A Sign Of The Times Date: Thu, 06 Aug 2026 19:56:53 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-being-paywalled-behind-netflix-is-upsetting-a-lot-of-people-but-its-a-sign-of-the-times/ Out of nowhere, Rockstar and Netflix announced today that an "extended look" at GTA 6 will be available on the streaming platform on August 27. People have been clamoring for a new look at the game, given that it's been more than a year since Trailer 2, but few could have expected the next look at GTA 6 to come via Netflix. A lot of people are disappointed by this, saying Rockstar is effectively paywalling the next GTA 6 trailer by hosting it exclusively via Netflix ... for a time. To be sure, the Netflix exclusivity is only for six hours, as the footage will later be available on Rockstar's own YouTube page at 9 PM ET the same day. It's also all but guaranteed that people will rip the Netflix footage and post it online before then. But it's the principle of the matter that is upsetting some portion of the GTA fanbase. GTA 6's next trailer is exclusive to Netflix for its debut. For critics, the near-ubiquity of a Netflix subscription is irrelevant. They see it as an extra hoop to jump through to watch a video that could be hosted on YouTube for everyone to watch at the same time. Beyond this, people have expressed concerns that Netflix's servers won't be able to handle what is expected to be a massive server load as countless millions of people log on at the same time to watch the footage. Netflix has a spotty track record in this department, too, as previous high-profile streams of sporting events, in particular, have been marred by technical issues. Rockstar is known to be protective of its content and driven to have it be seen in the best possible light. When the game's first trailer leaked in December 2023, the company responded by releasing the official version sooner than anticipated. Hosting the "extended look" footage on Netflix comes with the risk of technical hiccups that could negatively impact how people perceive GTA 6, even if this is unlikely to have any material effect on how GTA 6 performs. Of course, it could all run entirely smoothly and without issue. Problems can crop up on YouTube and elsewhere as well, after all. For its part, Netflix said its deal with Rockstar is a "reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience." Netflix has been trying to build out its gaming business for years, and this is among its biggest moves to date. Netflix and Rockstar partnering for this new GTA 6 trailer is not totally out of the blue, however. The two companies have worked together for years, with multiple GTA games being available to Netflix subscribers. They have since been removed, but Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption remains available via Netflix Games. Other terms of the partnership between Netflix and Rockstar were not divulged. Many have speculated that Netflix backed up a Brinks truck to Rockstar's offices, but the terms could be more nuanced than straight cash. GTA 6 was no doubt an extremely expensive production, and taking money from Netflix for this kind of deal could be a balance sheet matter for Rockstar and Take-Two. The companies have, after all, already done more to squeeze the playerbase. For starters, GTA 6 is launching at $80, which is $20 more than GTA 5 debuted at in 2013. GTA 6 also has a $100 Ultimate Edition that packs in many compelling digital extras and will likely drive numerous fans to the higher-priced option. One of the perks of the Ultimate Edition is access to Sara's Unisex Salon, where players can get "signature styles" for Jason and Lucia. People who buy the $80 edition of the game cannot access this, or at least Rockstar has yet to explain how they might be able to down the road or for an additional purchase. All of this is to say that Rockstar putting content behind a paywall and its efforts to extract more money from its playerbase is no surprise--it's the formula. The deal with Netflix is just the latest example of this. Here's to hoping Rockstar and Netflix eventually share more information about their partnership, but from Netflix's perspective, it makes a lot of sense as a pure and simple means to drive people to the platform. In any event, no matter how much people complain about Netflix hosting the next GTA 6 trailer, it's happening. People will need to subscribe to Netflix to watch the GTA 6 extended look right away, regardless of how they feel about it. I respect your principles if you wait six hours to watch on YouTube, but this is all shaping up to be a big win for Netflix. GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, unless it's delayed again.

Title: Celebrate 30 years of Quake with a brand-new episode, available today Date: Thu, 06 Aug 2026 18:15:30 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/06/celebrate-30-years-of-quake-with-a-brand-new-episode-available-today/ In 1996, id Software smashed through to another dimension – in one sense of the word, pioneering first-person shooters in the third dimension with the release of Quake, and in another, hurtling players feet-first into Quake’s otherworldly realm – a place beyond our reality where kinetic combat and a moody eldritch setting took FPS players to new heights. 30 years later, Quake has inspired countless hours played and frags tallied locally or online in Deathmatch, not to mention real-world connections and a major role in the rise of FPS esports with QuakeCon, North America’s largest LAN party (also celebrating the big 3-0 this year!). To ring in the 30th anniversary of Quake, just in time for the 30th anniversary of QuakeCon, MachineGames, in collaboration with id Software, return to bring you a brand-new episode for the iconic FPS: Play Video Available today as a free update for Quake on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Dawn of the Machine features a full 19-map campaign accompanied by a brand-new soundtrack and Deathmatch map.  Dawn of the Machine is a celebration of Quake’s history and influence on the developers at MachineGames and id Software. Following the team’s work on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: The Order of Giants DLC, Lead Level Designer Andrew Yoder at MachineGames approached the studio’s Game Director Jerk Gusfafsson about an expansion for Quake. Gustafsson, Yoder and the rest of the team that worked on similar projects – dubbed internally as Quake Club – set forth three major goals for what would become Dawn of the Machine. First and foremost, of course, was celebrating Quake’s 30th anniversary. “We wanted to create something that felt authentic to the spirit of the original game: Horror! Action! Madness!” says Yoder. As such, players will face deadly twists on familiar entries from Quake bestiary such as the Rocket Ogre, Demo Dog, and Blood Shambler, rising to the challenge with new weapon variants like ricochet-blasting Laser Cannon and the lightning-infused Super Axe for classic, fast-paced Quake carnage. The second goal the team pursued was giving veteran Quake players a new experience. Previous Quake episodes released by MachineGames alongside id Software, such as Call of the Machine and Dimension of the Machine, featured a traditional hub structure which reset the player’s progression between major areas. Instead, Dawn of the Machine has players battle through a continuous episode with continuous progression, which according to Yoder provided the team with “a challenge, requiring much more coordination and iteration to create.” To set the stage for its design, Dawn of the Machine has players back in the boots of Quake’s battle-hardened protagonist Ranger as he escapes an illusory dimension where time folds back onto itself. As the looping cycle of time progresses, so too will players as they discover ways to break the loop, uncover upgrades to their health and ammunition supplies and eventually take down The Nightmare Machine, the source of Ranger’s planar prison. “Nothing you see can be trusted,” says Yoder, “but there is a path to break through the illusion, defeat the schemes of the outer gods and escape.”  An early boss battle concept (left), plus early level plans (right) for what would become The Matriarch of Decay. Both underwent significant iteration during the production of Dawn of the Machine. The third goal in developing Dawn of the Machine was allowing the multifaceted and multitalented team at MachineGames and id Software to exercise their skills collaboratively on a smaller project compared to a modern AAA video game project. Some members of the Quake Club have made their own maps since the game’s release in ‘96 while others, including Yoder, have joined in more recently, making Quake Club a place for anyone on the team to contribute something to the project. “Quake Club has always been an opportunity for the team to learn and have fun,” says Yoder, adding that high-quality modding tools and Quake’s relative visual simplicity to the photorealism of modern day AAA titles allow team members to pitch in their expertise, even for tasks normally outside their area of specialization. As one example, Dawn of the Machine’s new soundtrack came about from an offer from Christian Plogfors, Advanced Level Designer at MachineGames. In addition to contributing two levels to the episode, Plogfors created a soundtrack with a dark, ambient tone expertly suited to the trippy, ethereal world of the expansion. “Christian proceeded to make a fantastic set of tracks that give the episode its own identity,” says Yoder. “The whole episode is so much stronger thanks to his contribution, stepping outside his normal role and bringing his other skills and passions to serve the project.” Reflecting on 30 years of Quake, Yoders says the opportunity to make Dawn of the Machine has been a privilege. “The team here owes a lot to Quake and its legacy,” he says, “Quake Club and our work wouldn’t exist without the wider Quake community and our friends at id Software.”
Title: Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites – Everything you need to know Date: Thu, 06 Aug 2026 16:00:48 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/06/ghost-recon-wildlands-last-rites-everything-you-need-to-know/ Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites is a major free update out now on PS4 and PS5. It revitalizes the game with new content, including a thrilling linear story mission, gameplay customization features, 4K and 60 FPS on PS5 and PS5 Pro, and more. To learn more about what you can expect, we spoke with Ubisoft Bordeaux’s Creative Director Olivier Leonardi and Live Strategy & Analytics Director Yossef Benzeghadi in a new interview. Play Video Wildlands launched nearly a decade ago. What can you tell us about the community still engaging with the game? Yossef Benzeghadi: Wildlands is a beloved gem within the Ghost Recon community, and taking down the Santa Blanca Cartel is fondly remembered. Either Solo or up to four players co-op, it’s a unique blend of open world and a fun immersive tactical military third person shooter that really stood the test of time. Back in the day, I was part of the Wildlands live team, and we really took the time to picture all the gameplay behaviors, player profiles, and playstyles we could see emerging in the game from the whole community. It acted as our golden compass throughout postlaunch. It led to the release of various fan-favorite content, still available today of course, such as our challenging Ghost Mode, or multiple Clancy-verse missions featuring Splinter Cell or Rainbow Six Siege. There was one key element that really stuck to me to this day – a group we initially called “Sandbox Players.” To be honest, at first, we did not really understand what the heck they were doing in our Bolivian Wildlands. Digging more, and more, notably thanks to community interviews and data-informed playtests, it finally clicked: they were role playing, ranging from cooperative mil-sim to simply adding extra optional layers of challenges on top of the game just for fun, taking hours to complete one mission perfectly. We had tons of players leveraging everything the game had to offer to transcend their gameplay experience to the next level. The level of customization and the overall freedom of choice the game offers were praised all around and for us that’s one of the main reasons players are still engaging with Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands today. With Last Rites, we are following up on that legacy, and there’s never been a better time to jump in. First, break down the features you’re adding in Last Rites, and why you added them. Yossef: First, and by popular demand, we are very happy to confirm 4K and 60 FPS on PS5 and PS5 Pro. To allow even more flexibility for role play fans and to bring more accessibility and freedom of choice to everyone, we are also adding various new settings to experiment with. With our new Ghost Parameters in the game’s Options menu, you can enable instant death or limitless revives, choose to have one or two primary weapons, and decide whether you keep remaining unused ammo when reloading or not. With our new World and Session Settings in the game’s Lobby page, you control the world itself. From the weather and time of day to alarms and jammers and even the rate of enemy patrols, you can craft your very own experience. You can even enable friendly fire in co-op, either to enhance realism, or allow some light PvP role play scenarios with your friends should you want to. We are also expanding existing categories from the Options menu with increased player agency. HUD and UI are more customizable than ever, and our new Difficulty settings now allow players to deep dive and tweak various elements such as Enemy Perception, Endurance, Vehicle Breakability and much more. Then, there’s Last Rites itself. It’s a brand-new story-driven mission you can jump into right away. Set in a darker, more oppressive Bolivia, the Ghosts enter a region controlled by Los Penitentes, a new fanatical cult united by faith, sacrifice, and violent justice. Coming from all walks of life, its members turn the environment into a constant threat, drawing the Ghosts into a tense narrative of betrayal and moral ambiguity. They are led by an enigmatic new foe, La Llorona. In addition, we’ve added tons of customization for your Ghost character and teammates, and many weapons and equipment have been unlocked for free, including previously unreleased camos and unobtainable challenge rewards. All Ghost War PvP classes can now be unlocked for free in the in-game store alongside many other items. And yes, we are adding some new Character Smith items to celebrate Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon 25th Anniversary, with a mysterious Operator Skin you unlock by completing Last Rites. A special thanks to the talented team at Ubisoft Bordeaux who made it all possible. Finally, PlayStation Plus members can get their hands on a brand-new exclusive Iconic Skin of La Llorona, unlock the powerful P416 Micteca, and embrace their presidential chic with the new 4-SHUR Blue Leader Sunglasses.  Last Rites has been created in part due to that community feedback. How did you actually gather and prioritize that? Olivier Leonardi: We met our community leaders and had a very open conversation with them. The goal was to turn raw community feedback into actionable insights that improved player experience while supporting the game’s core principles. We did so across multiple channels, structured it into themes, and prioritized based on player impact, intensity, and alignment with several player profiles. We know that a large part of our community are avid role players, so we crafted some of the features around their requests. Yossef: Working on Last Rites was quite an archaeological ride. Very early on the project, we broadly shared all insights and knowledge we gathered on Ghost Recon Wildlands during its postlaunch at the time, which was extremely valuable for the team. It served as a mirror to reflect on what we could do and explore on Last Rites, a vision which we fine-tuned over time thanks to those precious community discussions we had that Olivier mentioned. Notice we have been talking a lot about role play so far; this is the prime example of something we would have loved to explore further back in the day and are very happy we could prioritize now. At the same time, and for the same reasons, we know a lot of our players just love well-crafted and story-driven missions, and that’s why we are also delivering on that front with Last Rites. Talk to us about the new story content – Where did La Llorona come from, conceptually? Olivier: La Llorona has become an untouchable icon, a resurrected arbiter of justice, revered by the Bolivian people almost as a saint. Gathering devoted followers to her cause, she compels them to wear masks, erasing their individuality and demanding absolute obedience. These disciples, known as Los Penitentes, act as the ruthless executors of her will, delivering merciless retribution to anyone connected to the events that sealed her fate. We wanted this new antagonist to be quite dark and complex, but also someone that was deeply wounded, betrayed by the people she loved and trusted. La Llorona survived, but survival came at a cost. The betrayal destroyed her sense of belonging, leaving her suspended between who she was and what she’s becoming. Her vengeance isn’t just directed outward; it’s a way to reclaim control, to make sense of that pain, after what she experienced. She becomes a force of raw justice and destruction. View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image The mission is described as “unsettling” and the narrative shifts as players progress. How far did you push the tone, and why did you want to go darker this time? Olivier: We wanted to introduce this new mission as a very standard incursion, putting players back into Nomad’s boots, leading the Ghosts to do what they do very efficiently, but things quickly turn into something else; the familiar Bolivian environment becomes weird and the Ghosts start witnessing the wrath of La Llorona, aiming at anyone who might be accountable for what happened to her, especially the corrupt Bolivian government and its armed wing: Unidad. The more the Ghosts advance in her territory, the more they discover her twisted personality and how devoted her disciples are. Through different documents and audio recordings scattered across the world, players will be able to discover more about her goals and what she represents for the Bolivian people. Predator content returns with this update. View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image What do you hope players take away from Last Rites – is there a single experience or moment you’re most proud of? Olivier: I think the moment at Varga’s villa, the reveal of La Llorona with her weeping widow mask, the confrontation with her Los Penitentes cultists, and what Nomad discovers there is both a strong gameplay and story moment. That changes everything for Nomad, and he’s confronting Emily Price, his CIA handler, trying to understand what causes this brutal transformation. Title: Onimusha: Way of the Sword opens up in the final preview Date: Thu, 06 Aug 2026 15:00:47 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/06/onimusha-way-of-the-sword-opens-up-in-the-final-preview/ At the outset of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Miyamoto Musashi is fixated on freeing himself from the Oni Gauntlet. This mystical artifact, through a strange twist of fate, has become bound to our hero. But the stubborn young samurai doesn’t want the gauntlet’s powers. Musashi’s sole desire is to prove himself by his hands alone. However, as the journey unfolds, Musashi’s views gradually shift and expand. He begins to embrace the path he’s found himself on, becoming more open to his new place in the world. Play Video The action game starts to open up after the early moments. Missions with tighter scopes flow into a wider location that offers new challenges to overcome and more room to explore our growing arsenal of abilities. This final gameplay preview picks up right where the Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo leaves off. After Musashi duels rival swordsman Sasaki Ganryu on the stage of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, he’s transported to an otherworldly dimension, the “Oni Refuge.” It’s a surreal landscape where gravity is a suggestion. Islands float in the sky, and we conjure ruins from thin air. Then the Genma barge in. Invading from the depths of hell, these demons clash with the sacred scenery, but they’ll soon meet Musashi’s blade. We swiftly cut them to shreds. When our katana connects with Genma, they’re carved apart at the angles our sword travels through their twisted forms. We call it dynamic dismemberment. This system splits them in two across the torso, hacks them from head to toe, and… well, you get the picture. Before long, Musashi plucks an Oni Bow from the wreckage of this realm. Finally, we can return fire against Genma archers. The bow also allows us to solve environmental puzzles that require range. Our arrows can trigger traps, too. Eventually, they’ll even come in handy during a duel, severing a boss from its power source, once Musashi returns to Kyoto. After excising the Genma from the Oni Refuge, the clouds of Malice looming above Kyoto begin to lift. Yet darkness still lingers here. Our next stop in Japan’s ancient capital is Rokudo Chinno-ji Temple. It’s one of many real-life locations in the game. Legends say it exists at the crossroads between our world and the gates of hell. For Musashi and his allies, this sanctuary becomes home. It’s their base of operations in the fight to save the city. Kyoto is a vast location far larger than anywhere we’ve seen in the game. However, our ability to wander and explore its streets has bounds at the moment. Hellish structures erupt from the earth and a toxic fog sweeps through town, forming blockades that imprison any locals who haven’t yet fled the demonic corruption. Our quest to liberate Kyoto begins by sealing rifts where Genma manifest in our dimension. These creatures spawn in all shapes and sizes, but Musashi slays them and absorbs their souls all the same. We’ll make use of these. Alongside treasures we discover, souls help us upgrade gear and unlock new abilities to face what awaits on the path ahead. This trail eventually leads to Kiyomizu-zaka slope, a pilgrim road that climbs up the hillside to the temple where we started this journey. Here lies the key to unlocking much of Kyoto. But to even enter this place we must first face some truly formidable foes. Back in the Oni Refuge, we had a run-in with Daidara, a towering Genma with a hulking frame and bottomless appetite. The gluttonous giant’s hunger even extends to devouring our hard-earned souls. We’re forced to make tactical decisions in the heat of battle about when to absorb souls, or risk losing them to Daidara’s ravenous maw. This isn’t the only Genma after something of ours. Another offers to free Musashi from his gauntlet… at the cost of his entire arm. Our hero considers this deal, if only for a moment. Though Musashi has warmed up to his Oni Gauntlet, he still hopes to remove it. It’s a wish Rasho-gan is only too glad to grant. This multi-armed monster has been posing as a deity at Yasui Konpiragu Shrine. Here, he fulfills worshipers’ desires in the worst possible ways. Constructed from the body parts of his victims (like the leg of a man who longed to be rid of knee pain), Rasho-gan wields his extra limbs to throw everything he has at us, including uprooting trees, boulders, and even entire buildings to crush Musashi. Escaping Rasho-gan’s clutches with our lives drives us to make full use of the game’s deep arsenal of combat techniques. For our efforts, the shrine guardians reward us with Oni Strength. Musashi accepts this new power, and we can now tear down the demonic barriers around Kyoto. Now it’s time to take down the source of the toxic fog choking the city. This life-sapping mist emerges from eerie plants, and it clears when we chop them down. However, Byakue stands in the way of our gardening. Before we can fell the final tree, this animalistic Genma charges in. As we brawl, the brute gets coated in its own blood and grows wilder. Skill alone may allow Musashi to outlast this creature, but another strategy proves wise. Delivering fewer but more devastating blows soon tames the beast. After completing the mission, the evil haze over much of Kyoto clears. The townsfolk come out and rejoice. Now, more of the city is open for us to explore. This is just the start of our action-packed adventure. It’s one that players can look forward to experiencing for themselves when Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches for PlayStation 5 on September 4. Pre-orders for the game are available now at PlayStation Store.
Title: The Power of Motherhood Amid Chaos – 1998: The Toll Keeper Story Date: Wed, 05 Aug 2026 03:53:23 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/04/20260805-toll/ In Indonesia, there is a saying that perfectly captures the core concept of our game, 1998: The Toll Keeper Story—”A mother’s love knows no bounds, spanning across all time.” This beautiful sentiment slowly but surely transforms into a harsh reality when that very maternal instinct is tested against a backdrop of escalating, threatening chaos. This is Dewi’s story. While deeply inspired by our own homeland’s history, the events of 1998 in Indonesia, where a severe monetary crisis triggered widespread social unrest that victimized innocent groups, remain tragic yet universally relevant today. It often feels as though the world refuses to learn from the mistakes of the past. View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image Dewi, alongside other characters like Heru and Sinta, does not stand there to fight a massive tide that is far beyond her control. Day after day, from inside the toll booth she operates, she witnesses the raw human struggle for survival, all while fighting tooth and nail to keep her own baby safe and healthy. This entire conflict unfolds through a document and currency-checking mechanic that will feel instantly familiar to fans of Papers, Please. Amidst the routine, Dewi’s toll booth becomes a sanctuary where affected citizens air their grievances, regardless of whether they support or oppose the government of that era. The choices Dewi makes will ultimately shape the conclusion of her story. Without ever intending to romanticize the tragedy that inspired it, this narrative will be brought to life through hand-drawn cutscenes, rendered in the GameChanger Studio’s signature art style. A diary at the end of each day will also serve as a space to reflect on the deep anxieties Dewi faces, both as a woman and as a mother. View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image With the features offered by the PlayStation 5, we are confident we can make Dewi’s journey even more immersive. The answer to this ambition lies in the Haptic Feedback technology, which will adapt uniquely to the various types of vehicles passing through Dewi’s booth. These vibrations will serve not only as vital gameplay clues but also as a physical representation of the earth-shattering challenges Dewi must endure while navigating her pregnancy. We hope that the emotions and message we wish to convey through Dewi’s journey in 1998: The Toll Keeper Story will leave a lasting, profound impression on you when you experience it on the PlayStation 5. Title: Crimson Moon battles demonic corruption on September 1 Date: Tue, 04 Aug 2026 16:00:48 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/04/crimson-moon-battles-demonic-corruption-on-september-1/ Earlier this year, we introduced Crimson Moon, our gothic high renaissance action RPG. You play as a Nephilim, a powerful half-human, half-angel warrior sworn to reclaim the fallen city of Gildenarch from the demonic corruption consuming it.  Today, we’re excited to announce that Crimson Moon is only weeks away, launching on PlayStation 5 on September 1. Play Video Over the past few months, we’ve shared more of Crimson Moon’s brutal melee combat, replayable hunts and challenging boss encounters. Today, we’d like to focus on one of our favorite ways to experience the game: two-player online co-op. Every hunt is better together  While Crimson Moon is fully playable solo, every hunt can also be tackled in two-player online co-op.  Co-op isn’t simply about having another player dealing damage. Every hunt dynamically scales between solo play and two-player co-op, ensuring encounters remain challenging however you choose to play.  You’ll also share a communal life pool throughout each hunt. If your partner falls in battle, you’ll have the opportunity to revive them and keep the hunt alive – but each death brings your team one step closer to failure.  Those are the moments we love most. A perfectly timed rescue as a boss enters its final phase, a desperate last-second victory… or watching an overconfident partner meet their demise when everything was going so well.  Whether you’re coordinating Weapon Arts, experimenting with different builds, or standing shoulder-to-shoulder against towering bosses, co-op adds a whole new layer of teamwork to every hunt. Built for PlayStation 5  We’re committed to making Crimson Moon feel right at home on PlayStation 5.  Players on PlayStation 5 Pro can take advantage of native support for upgraded PSSR, helping deliver a sharper image as you explore the blood-soaked streets of Gildenarch and battle the horrors lurking within. One adventure, two editions  From the beginning, our goal has been to create an action RPG packed with replayability, satisfying progression, and memorable co-op, while offering exceptional value to players.  Crimson Moon launches for $19.99, while Crimson Moon: Deluxe Edition will be available for $29.99.  The Deluxe Edition includes the Ceremonial Armor Set, the Axe of the Gods – a guitar-shaped axe worthy of any legendary Nephilim – and access to our upcoming Post-Launch Content Expansion.  If you decide you’d like to upgrade later, the Crimson Moon: Deluxe Edition Upgrade will also be available for $10, giving Standard Edition players access to all Deluxe content whenever they’re ready.  As a thank you to the PlayStation community, every PlayStation player – whether they choose the Standard or Deluxe Edition – will receive the exclusive Sonai Magistrate Armor Set at launch. We’ll see you in Gildenarch From your first steps inside Sanctus Clypeus to your final stand against the legendary Dead Gods, every hunt is an opportunity to discover powerful new gear, experiment with different builds, and push deeper into Gildenarch’s increasingly dangerous Wards. Gather your allies, for the hunt begins on September 1.

Title: After a successful first week, Mistfall Hunter gets a roadmap promising a much requested solo mode for one of its maps Date: Thu, 06 Aug 2026 18:03:56 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/after-a-successful-first-week-mistfall-hunter-gets-a-roadmap-promising-a-much-requested-solo-mode-for-one-of-its-maps Mistfall Hunter launched last week, and so far it seems to be doing quite well for itself! Apparently there's a million of you now running around its very Elden Ring looking lands and extraction fantasy lands (though these don't sound like one million sales, to be clear). With a healthy, if currently fairly critical, community under the game's belt, developer Bellring Games have shared a roadmap for its first and second season outlining what you can expect next. Title: Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault gets a 1.0 date and demo as the original goes temporarily free Date: Thu, 06 Aug 2026 17:15:32 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/moonlighter-2-the-endless-vault-gets-a-10-date-and-demo-as-the-original-goes-temporarily-free The concept behind Moonlighter, i.e. you are a shopkeeper except to get your wares you need to venture forth into dangerous dungeons and make it out alive, is always one that appealed to me, but has just managed to slip me by all these years. Title: Fields of Mistria enters 1.0 with a delightful, retro anime trailer and a promise of more to come Date: Thu, 06 Aug 2026 16:31:47 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/fields-of-mistria-enters-10-with-a-delightful-retro-anime-trailer-and-a-promise-of-more-to-come Look, you and I both know the amount of hours you've put into Stardew Valley is enough to make someone think you play it on the toilet, in the shower, and driving on your way to work. But how about something a little different, and a touch more magical and anime-esque than ole ConcernedApe's modern classic? You'll be wanting to look to Fields of Mistria in that case, which after an early access period of a couple of years is now out in 1.0. Read more
Title: Marble Souls dares to ask what would happen if the bloke from Dark Souls got stuck in a physics-driven ball, and it's out this year Date: Thu, 06 Aug 2026 16:03:04 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/marble-souls-dares-to-ask-what-would-happen-if-the-bloke-from-dark-souls-got-stuck-in-a-physics-driven-ball-and-its-out-this-year FromSoft games famously often devolve into rolling around a big baddie. Marble Souls takes that a step further. Now, the rolling is the main event, not just a side effect of you not wanting to end up pancaked on the ground. You are a Dark Soulsy bloke in a Dark Soulsy world, but trapped inside a physics-driven ball and tasked with collecting lost souls. It looks cool. Read more
