Title: PSA: A Big Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Reveal Gets Spoiled In The Nintendo Direct
Date: Tue, 04 Aug 2026 19:03:39 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/psa-a-big-fire-emblem-fortunes-wave-reveal-gets-spoiled-in-the-nintendo-direct/
Fire Emblem fans had plenty of information to sink their teeth into during today's Fortune's Weave Direct presentation, with new characters, new settings, and a new "gun" showcased during the 22-minute livestream. However, the Direct also threw a wrench into the plans of those who wish to be spoiler-free going into Fortune's Weave, as a major story beat from early in the game was revealed in the final five minutes of the video.
We're about to dive into that spoiler right now and its implications for how Fortune's Weave will play out, so if you have not watched the video and wish to stay unspoiled, do not venture below the video we've shared below. Seriously, this is your spoiler warning: Turn back now if you want to stay blind.
After 18 minutes of explanations on the characters, mechanics, and world of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, the year 1449 appears on the screen--and then immediately progresses forward five years to 1454. The Dagdan Empire still stands, but it has been rendered apocalyptic after being ravaged by a demon god called Balor.
It's then revealed that Fortune's Weave will take place across both years, with the main protagonist, Eshmel, summoned by Sothis to help the heroes in the past prevent the calamity of the future through key moments in each hero's story. How exactly that will play out, however, was not explained.
The Fortune's Weave Direct introduced us to the four heroes of the Dagdan Empire--Cai, Dietrich, Leda, and Theodora--as they compete in a tradition called the Heroic Games. Players will be able to switch between each hero at will, playing out their stories in parallel if they so choose.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave will launch September 17 exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2.
Title: Riftbound Director Says TCG Will Eventually Include All League Of Legends Champions
Date: Tue, 04 Aug 2026 19:03:35 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/riftbound-director-says-tcg-will-eventually-include-all-league-of-legends-champions/
After launching in English late last year, Riftbound, Riot Games' League of Legends trading card game (TCG), has quickly grown into one of the most popular TCGs to date. The game had a big presence at this year's Gen Con, featuring not one but two large booths that fans could stop by to learn to play, meet some of their favorite creators, and buy convention-exclusive merch.
During the show, GameSpot had the opportunity to sit down with Riftbound game director Dave Guskin to chat about some of the game's history and where we go from here. Talking about League of Legend's massive roster, GameSpot's Jessica Cogswell was curious is if adding new Legends to Riftbound was an intimidating task when pulling from the source material's over 170-characters.
"No, it's so great! I love it," Guskin said. "I mean, the more things there are that players love and want to connect with, the better it is for us. I think for me, it's like, 'Man, how do we make sure we hit all of these so that the players who love a specific champion get to play that one.'' I think eventually we will hit all the champions in League of Legends. I think we'll probably revisit some, because we can find new ways to make a really cool Yasuo or a really cool Ahri that we didn't do before."
Revisiting older Champions in Riftbound is something the team has already done, with Master Yi making his second playable appearance in the TCG with the game's third set, Unleashed. That version of Master Yi sports the new XP mechanic that fans of League of Legends will be familiar with.
Guskin went on to discuss the team's process for selecting which characters will receive the cardboard treatment. When asked if they consider cards based on what people are playing the most in League of Legends, or if it's more centered around how well that character would work on as a card, he stated that both play a key role in the team's decision making.
"It's a combination of, 'People love this from League of Legends, the PC game. We should try to acknowledge that and see if we can build something that really feels right.' Like Zed, he's like constantly making shadow copies of himself, right? So we thought, let's make a deck, and see if that works. And it was like, 'Oh, that's great.'"
The team has a few fan-favorite Champions from League of Legends they want to add to Riftbound as soon as possible, Guskin confirmed, stating, "I don't want to give away too much, but I will say that there's some very popular champions we haven't done yet. I think there's like some cool relationships in the story that we can explore through sets. We just revealed--a couple days ago, I think--that our sixth set and our seventh set have a few champions that are beloved, like, Aurelion Sol."
For more Riftbound news, Riot is currently rolling out their second biannual State of the Game updates, detailing changes to come in the future, shifts in organized play, and giving us our first look at the set release roadmap for 2027.
Title: Borderlands Movie Director Discusses The Mega-Flop And What Went Wrong
Date: Tue, 04 Aug 2026 19:01:52 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/borderlands-movie-director-discusses-the-mega-flop-and-what-went-wrong/
The 2024 Borderlands movie had a cast full of big names, including multiple Oscar winners, and was based on a popular franchise with countless fans. But the film was a critical and commercial disaster. So what happened?
Director Eli Roth told Variety said that the film, which cost a mighty $120 million to produce, was pared back to something that did not line up with his original vision. He said he wants to make things that are "left of center" because this worked for him in the past. However, "As things grow bigger, studios just naturally become more risk averse," he said.
The report said studio executives wanted Borderlands to have a PG-13 rating, and asked for changes to get it. In the end, the finished version of Borderlands was "something that belonged to nobody," Roth said.
Cate Blanchett in Borderlands.
“It’s not a kids’ movie, but it’s trying to appeal to everybody. It’s for gamers, but it doesn’t have the violence the gamers want because it can’t be that extreme because it costs too much. You just wind up with a movie that’s neither fish nor fowl," he said.
Roth was not the only director on Borderlands, as Deadpool's Tim Miller came in for the reshoots.
The Borderlands movie starred Cate Blanchett as Lilith and Jack Black as the voice of Claptrap. The film also featured Kevin Hart (Roland), Edgar Ramirez (Atlas), Ariana Greenblatt (Tiny Tina), Florian Munteanu (Kreig), Janina Gavankar (Knoxx), Jamie Lee Curtis (Tannis), and Olivier Richters (Krom).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjtVXWa3tWI
Roth previously directed Cabin Fever, Hostel, and Knock Knock, while he starred in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. His latest movie is Ice Cream Man, which tells a story of an ice cream truck driver who comes to town, selling kids ice cream that turns them into murderers. The movie, which releases on August 7, is not getting good reviews, but he says it represents the kind of movie he wants to make, unobstructed from studio influence.
He raised the movie's $5.5 million budget and is releasing Ice Cream Man via his own production company, The Horror Section. He said the movie only needs to make about $6 million-$8 million theatrically to turn a profit, in part because he expects it to make about as much when it's released at home.
“Novelists who write stories own the underlying rights, but filmmakers who write a screenplay don’t own the underlying rights, and that always felt like an imbalance to me,” Roth said. “Stephen King owns all of his creations. Why should I create something and then give away ownership?”
Title: Marvel Rivals’ New Hero Looks Like He Walked Straight Out Of Chainsaw Man
Date: Tue, 04 Aug 2026 17:50:21 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/marvel-rivals-new-hero-looks-like-he-walked-straight-out-of-chainsaw-man/
Marvel Rivals has consistently expanded its roster ever since it went live, and for Season 9.5: The Mystery of Thebes, a sinister underworld figure is being added to the live-service game. Voiced by WWE star Damian Priest--AKA Luis Berrios--The Hood is bringing some demonic energy to Marvel Rivals and some Chainsaw Man vibes.
https://youtu.be/YMweqIzyB7s
Stepping into the Vanguard role, The Hood balances mobster energy with demonic powerhouse skills. He can easily switch between his human and demon forms, as he lays down suppressing fire with his pistols, summons protective shields, and lob orbs of dark magic that debuff enemies. But it's his Ultimate Ability that might make anime fans do a double-take, as when he fully transforms into a demon, The Hood looks like he just stepped out of the pages of the Chainsaw Man manga, as he has a strong resemblance to the Gun Devil from that series.
As a fully-realized Gun Demon, The Hood essentially becomes a walking arsenal of guns that can easily pierce through the defenses of enemies. Here's what he looks like after he has transformed:
The Hood's Gun Demon transformation
And here's what the Gun Devil looks like, from Chainsaw Man:
The Gun Devil from Chainsaw Man
That's a pretty strong comparison, but I'm guessing that Marvel Rivals developer NetEase is paying homage to Chainsaw Man, which is a hugely popular manga and anime series. Mercifully, The Hood isn't nearly as powerful as the Gun Devil when he's in this state, as the demonic entity was essentially a force of ballistic nature with its wide array of powers, instantly killing everything around him within a vast range. One of its infamous feats includes firing a bullet through the heart of every living being within 1,000 meters, if they were born within nine specific months of the year--anyone born in April, July, or October was safe from its wrath.
In addition to that anime influence, Marvel Rivals Summer Festival kicks off on August 13 and will see a brand-new wave of swimsuit special costumes and cosmetics added to the game. NetEase has also announced that Marvel Rivals will be taking up less space when Season 9.5 launches, as a massive texture compression overhaul will see the game shrink by up to 40GB on PC, and it'll be 15GB smaller on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Title: Marvel Rivals Characters: Every Superhero And Supervillain Revealed So Far

Marvel Comics has one of the best rosters of superheroes and supervillains, and you're able to smash them against each other in Marvel Rivals now that the game is available to play on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. A free-to-play team-based competitive shooter, Marvel Rivals is developed by NetEase and features playable characters from superteams like the Avengers, X-Men, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
So far, dozens of heroes and villains are in the game, giving players a diverse group of portal-manipulating wizards, not-so-jolly green giants with astonishing anger management issues, and a fictional K-pop sensation to use in combat. Set in a universe where Doctor Doom and his 2099 incarnation have mucked about with time and created an anomaly called the Timestream Entanglement, this event eventually leads to heroes and villains battling each other in 6v6 battles across destructible environments.
For a closer look at how these characters stack up when compared to each other, you can also check out GameSpot's tier lists on the best Vanguard, Duelist, and Strategist characters to play as. You can also read up on how NetEase chooses new characters for the game.
Iron Man
A tech-savvy powerhouse, Iron Man looks like a versatile character with plenty of powerful tools in his arsenal. He can attack foes with his Repulsor rays, unleash a barrage of missiles, and can go airborne.
Spider-Man
With the proportionate speed, strength, and agility of a spider, Spider-Man is an agile option for anyone looking to disrupt the momentum of the opposition. Thanks to his web-shooters, he can temporarily trap opponents and leave them in a vulnerable state.
Hulk
Interestingly, it looks like players will be able to take control of both the Hulk and his puny alter-ego, Bruce Banner. Once Banner hulks out, he gets an enormous health bar boost and he uses a variety of ground-and-pound techniques to smash foes. As part of the team-up gameplay mechanic, Hulk can even channel excess gamma radiation into Iron Man and supercharge the armored Avenger's energy attacks.
Black Panther
The defender and ruler of Wakanda, Black Panther can slash away at the competition with his Vibranium claws and summon the power of the Panther God Bast in battle.
Loki
The god of stories, Loki hasn't forgotten his trickster roots and can confuse enemies by summoning a mystical doppelganger. Loki can even shapeshift into one of the opponents, using their unique skills to cause some chaos.
Storm
Briefly seen at the end of the Marvel Rivals trailer, we're not too certain how Storm plays in the game just yet, but we do know that this mutant weather goddess is no pushover. In media, Storm's weather-manipulating powers allow her to summon lightning, fly with air currents, and even create tornadoes.
Namor
An oceanic powerhouse, Namor can dish out some pain with his trident or summon a squid-like familiar for some extra firepower.
Doctor Strange
Very little has been shown of Earth's Sorcerer Supreme, but from what we have seen so far, it looks like this master of the mystic arts can use portals to safely close gaps and can stop time with the Eye of Agamotto.
Magik
Magik looks like the last person you want to have invading your personal space, as she can send you flying with her Soulsword. And if that wasn't bad enough, she can transform into her demonic form, DarkChylde, and make use of new abilities to level the playing field.
Groot
Everyone's favorite tree titan, Groot hits hard and from a mid-range distance thanks to his flexible limbs. This Guardian of the Galaxy can also team up with Rocket Raccoon for some extra devastation.
Rocket Raccoon
Rocket might be a bit of a glass cannon with his small health bar, but he could also be hard to pin down as he comes equipped with a jetpack and can quickly scale buildings. When he's not dodging attacks, he can fight back with his long-range weapons and team up with Groot during matches.
Star Lord
Briefly teased, Star Lord can be seen with his trademark Element Guns. In other Marvel games, these blasters allow Star Lord to fire various elemental rounds, and with a bag of technological tricks at his disposal, he usually allows for flexible playstyles in those games.
Mantis
Mantis hasn't been seen in action yet, but if she's anything like her comic book or MCU counterpart, she'll likely be a close-quarters combat specialist who can immobilize enemies with her empathic powers.
Peni Parker
One of the standout stars from the Spider-Verse, Peni Parker doesn't have Peter Parker's arachnid-themed powers, but she does have a powerful mech suit armed with lethal appendages.
Luna Snow
Previously seen in games like Marvel Future Fight and Marvel Super War, Seol Hee AKA Luna Snow mixes ice-manipulating powers with K-Pop style. In the debut trailer, it looks like Luna can team up with Namor to enhance his water-based skills in combat.
Scarlet Witch
Another character who made a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance, the Scarlet Witch is a magic-wielding titan in Marvel comic books, film, and television. We're not certain what she can do just yet, but the official gameplay screenshots for Marvel Rivals suggest that she'll use her arcane powers to hex opponents.
Magneto
The mutant master of magnetism is looking swole in Marvel Rivals, but beyond that, details on Magneto are scarce. From what we have seen so far, it looks like he'll be a defensive character in the same vein as Overwatch's Reinhardt, as he can generate magnetic shields to block projectile attacks.
The Punisher
Between Asgardian gods, Avengers, and mutants, Frank Castle might seem like an odd fit for this superhero game. The vigilante is undeniably talented when it comes to using weapons, and it looks like he'll be the Bastion of Marvel Rivals, as he can use a gun emplacement to lock down a part of the battlefield.
Hela
The most chilling duelist in the roster, Hela can summon the powers of Nastrond to conjure cursed crows and swords in battle.
Venom
The slimy symbiote pounces onto the battlefield as a heavyweight Vanguard-class brawler in Marvel Rivals. Not only can Venom dish out massive damage, but he can also stay in the fight longer thanks to his health-siphoning abilities.
Adam Warlock
Also known as the Golden Guardian of the cosmos, Adam Warlock is a strategist who can keep your team fighting fit thanks to his multiple healing and resurrection abilities.
Captain America
Fittingly, Captain America is a beefy star-spangled tank in combat. As a Vanguard character, he can soak up damage, protect teammates, and smash through enemies.
Winter Soldier
A Duelist type, the Winter Soldier excels at eliminating a cluster of enemies with his explosive rounds. Combined with his other abilities, this Cold War assassin hits hard from multiple ranges.
Thor
The god of thunder is a great character for drawing enemy fire thanks to his high amount of health and powerful Thorforce abilities. A one-man army, he can easily throw himself into the middle of a superhero fracas and wreck the opposition.
Jeff the Land Shark
He might look cute, but Jeff is an adorable monster in the hands of someone who knows how to use him properly. Able to heal and boost his allies, Jeff can also defy the laws of physics and swallow up the opposition with his powerful ultimate ability.
Psylocke
She might be a bit of a glass cannon, but when you master Psylocke's ability to sneak her way behind enemy lines and slash her way back to her team, she becomes a force to be reckoned with.
Moon Knight
There's a high learning curve when it comes to Moon Knight, but mastering this Duelist-type character's various abilities is worth it as he's one of the best damage-dealers in the game. Not only does he have impressive mobility, but his skills also allow him to dish out pain across wide sections of a map as well.
Hawkeye
Fittingly, Hawkeye is a rewarding character for skilled players to use. His bow allows him to dish out absurd amounts of damage with a single charged arrow, and even if enemies close the distance in an attempt to take him down, his close-range skills make him dangerous when he's backed into a corner.
Wolverine
Wolverine hasn't been a popular choice since he debuted, but a recent update has fine-tuned the legendary X-Man and turned him into a lethal brawler. In the best scenario, you'll want to throw Wolverine into a mob so that he can chip away at them, as his healing abilities and close-quarters skills turn him into a mutant menace on the battlefield.
Iron Fist
Few things in life are as terrifying as an Iron Fist player on a collision course for your Marvel Rivals character. The martial arts legend can demolish a health bar with ease, and in the right hands, he makes up for his low health with hard-hitting combos and impressive survivability.
Squirrel Girl
She's beaten Dr. Doom with nothing but her furry friends, and in combat, Squirrel Girl is a beginner-friendly character thanks to her explosive primary attack and her ability to take out groups of enemies from a (relatively) safe distance.
Black Widow
You'll need plenty of practice to become an ace Black Widow player, but once you do, you'll find that she's a cool sniper who can easily find tactical positions on the map to ply her deadly trade.
Cloak and Dagger
The first duo in Marvel Rivals, Cloak and Dagger occupy the Strategist slot in the game's roster. The pair are at their best when they support their team with healing abilities and buffs, but they can also turn a battlefield into hostile territory thanks to their Eternal Bond ultimate ability.
Mister Fantastic
At the time of writing, it's still early days for Mister Fantastic, the stretchy super-genius and leader of the Fantastic Four. What we do know so far is that he's a Duelist-type character who can absorb damage and bounce back from danger thanks to his rubber body.
The Invisible Woman
While you'll never see her coming thanks to her signature powers, The Invisible Woman can also support her allies with healing orbs, force-fields, and an ultimate attack that can turn the tide of battle in her favor.
Human Torch
The hot-headed duelist of the Fantastic Four, Johnny can take to the skies and hurl fireballs at enemies. Armed with a wide range of abilities, it looks like the Human Torch excels at corraling enemies and melting them with his flames.
The Thing
It's clobberin' time! As you'd expect from the Thing, his rocky exterior allows him to soak up damage and deliver powerful knockout blows as soon as he closes the distance between himself and a target.
Ultron
Fittingly, Ultron is a strategist-class character who can strike from a distance and send a swarm of drones in to get up close and personal with his foes.
Emma Frost
The 38th hero introduced to Marvel Rivals, Emma Frost steps into the Vanguard role as a mid-range specialist who can armor up and dish out devastating psychic attacks.
Phoenix
The Omega-level telepath of the X-Men, Phoenix is a Duelist-class character.
Blade was teased in the recent trailer for the next season, The Abyss Awakens, and while we don't know too much about the legendary Daywalker yet, it looks like he'll be a close-quarters combat specialist in his role as a Duelist.
Angela
Raised in Heven, a realm that exists separately from the Nine Realms of the Marvel Universe, Angela is the daughter of Odin and one of the heirs to his throne. A Vanguard character who wields powerful melee weapons, her ultimate ability Heven's Retribution can deal massive damage over an area and can synchronize well with similar abilities.
Daredevil
This isn't the man without fear you're used to! While Matt Murdock has always grappled with his darker side, an encounter with the demon known as "The Beast" left the vigilante with a literal demon inside of him. For Marvel Rivals, Daredevil excels in close-range combat as he burns stacks of Fury to empower his attacks. His ultimate ability, Let the Devil Out, makes all opponents take damage over time if they're caught in the area of effect.
Gambit
The ragin' Cajun hits the battlefield as a Strategist hero who can synergize attacks with Magento and Rogue. An agile character with high healing and support utility, Gambit wields his trademark deck of cards that he charges with explosive kinetic energy.
Rogue
Joining Gambit as a Vanguard hero is Rogue. A powerhouse who can quickly close gaps and weaken enemies, Rogue's ultimate ability also allows her to deal damage over time and drain Ultimate charges from enemies if they are above 80%.
Deadpool
Can't decide between playing as a Vanguard, Strategist, or a Duelist? Deadpool can shift into all three of those roles, and he has a deadly arsenal of weapons to wield.
Elsa Bloodstone
You called for a monster hunter, mate? Else Bloodstone steps into the arena, and as a master Duelist, she's armed with plenty of weapons, deadly traps, and the ability to summon monsters to aid her in battle.
Black Cat
Black Cat will sneak into Marvel Rivals as part of the Season 7.5 update. Her abilities and skills haven't been revealed yet, but we'd wager that her "bad luck" powers and cat burglar talents will come into play to make her a unique and agile character.
White Fox
Anyone looking to master a new Strategist character can grab White Fox and bring order to chaos. The South Korean super-agent can adapt on the fly to buff her teammates and charm enemies, or she can transform into a melee-focused fighter who can slash away at enemies while healing nearby allies. Throw in the ability to teleport teammates out of harm's way and an Ultimate that transforms her into her nine-tailed form, and White Fox has the potential to be a powerful all-rounder.
Devil Dinosaur
The brawn to Moon Girl's brains, Devil Dinosaur brings prehistoric power to the Marvel Rivals battlefield. Serving as a Vanguard character, Devil Dinosaur specializes in charging headfirst into danger and is protected by a force field. Once he gets close enough, he can chomp down on targets, and his Ultimate turns him into an unstoppable brute.
Cyclops
Optic blast! The X-Men team leader might have only a single power at his disposal, but he knows how to make the most of it. As a Duelist, Cyclops can focus on a single target with his primary attack, ricochet optic blasts between enemies with his secondary ability, and quickly escape from danger with a propulsive blast. His Ultimate, Ruby Rage, is a massive blast of energy that can wipe out anyone caught in the beam.
Jubilee
Get ready to see some fireworks once Jubilee enters the scene! An X-Man who steps into the Strategist role, Jubilee can use her energy plasmoids to damage foes and heal allies, while her Ultimate ability unleashes a massive fireworks display across the battlefield.
The Hood
Not just one of the most powerful leaders of the supervillain underworld, The Hood is also a demonic powerhouse thanks to his arcane equipment. Able to switch between human and demon forms, The Hood is a gunner who can channel the chaotic energy of Oblivion, summon protective shields, and debuff enemies with mystical orbs in his role as a Vanguard character. When the odds are stacked against him, The Hood can also enter his Full Demon State, transforming into a being that looks a lot like Chainsaw Man's Gun Devil--and is almost as destructive thanks to high-impact piercing rounds that demolish defenses. As an added bonus, nearby teammates will also gain bonus health.

In the lead-up to Grand Theft Auto 6's long-awaited release this November, the rest of the games industry is getting out of the way as much as possible. The number of games delayed or moved away from a November release date continues to grow. Danganronpa 2x2 is one such game, and its developers are the first to admit that Grand Theft Auto 6 played a part in that decision.

SpiralAI and Koei Tecmo’s studio Gust just announced RyzaChat: Your Midsummer Dream Story with AI Ryza, an “AI chat RPG” set in the Atelier Ryza universe. It seems like a bit of a nightmare. Title: Sega's '90s-era Fire Emblem Competitor Was Years Ahead of Its Time
Date: Tue, 04 Aug 2026 18:33:02 GMT

The Aug. 4 Nintendo Direct was all about Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, the tactical RPG coming to Nintendo Switch 2 next month. The showcase revealed a bunch of new info about Intelligent Systems' latest, including new details about how the game's four branching story paths will merge together. While Fire Emblem has been around since 1990, it truly popped off amongst worldwide gaming audiences with 2019's Fire Emblem: Three Houses, whichhelped bring the subgenre out of the niche and into the mainstream by combining turn-based battles with Persona-like social sim elements. In the years since, other studios have followed suit with excellent tactical RPGs like Ubisoft's Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hopein 2022 and last year's stellar remake Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. But the latest Nintendo Direct reminded me there's one publisher I'd particularly love to see get in on this burgeoning trend, and that's Sega.
Title: Best in Class: Stream PC Games and Study on the Same Laptop With GeForce NOW
Date: Thu, 30 Jul 2026 13:00:20 +0000
Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-back-to-school-2026/
Back to school means balancing assignments, deadlines and downtime. GeForce NOW makes it easy to have it all.
With cloud gaming, everyday laptops used for class can also become GeForce RTX-powered gaming setups.
When it’s time to switch from studying to gaming, members can jump into Halo: Campaign Evolved, as GeForce NOW is bringing one of the gaming world’s most celebrated titles to nearly any device through the cloud, alongside eight total games joining the GeForce NOW library this week.
From A+ to AAA Gaming
This back-to-school season, the easiest upgrade isn’t replacing laptops in backpacks. It’s unlocking even more from these same laptops, from creating to gaming.
With a GeForce NOW membership, Chromebooks, Macs and Surface devices can become GeForce RTX-powered gaming PCs in the cloud. The GeForce NOW library features thousands of supported PC games, letting members stream titles they already own from digital stores like Steam, Xbox PC Game Pass and Epic Games Store in just a few clicks.
The cloud keeps games up to date and ready to play, making it easy to jump into a match between classes, after homework or whenever there’s free time. Time spent waiting on downloads, patches and installs becomes time spent in game instead.
The Ultimate membership enables best-in-class experiences by delivering 5080-class performance in the cloud with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies for responsive, visually rich gameplay — all on the hardware gamers already own.
A creator known as “Menguiny” recently put this to the test after picking up a MacBook Neo. GeForce NOW turned the laptop — usually the creator’s go-to for editing videos and everyday work — into a top-notch gaming machine, too.
Another creator, “TechWithSeong” highlighted that same versatility GeForce NOW offers. Rather than juggling separate devices for work and gaming, he used GeForce NOW Ultimate to stream supported PC games across the devices he already owns — from a MacBook used for editing to gaming on the go with handheld devices.
Gamers can start with a day pass and experience all the premium benefits without a monthly commitment. Plus, the cost of a day pass can be applied toward a first membership purchase — it’s like earning a little extra credit along the way.
Everyone, at Their Stations
Needlers never looked so sharp.
Experience the Master Chief’s iconic journey on GeForce NOW in Halo: Campaign Evolved — a modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign — rebuilt with high-definition visuals, updated cinematics and refined gameplay. Whether discovering Halo for the first time or returning after 25 years to finish the fight, it’s as the Master Chief says: “We’re just getting started.”
Crash-land on the mysterious ringworld alongside Cortana and uncover great secrets while battling overwhelming Covenant forces. Fight through the rebuilt campaign, then continue the adventure with three brand-new missions featuring the Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. Expanded weapons, iconic vehicles, hijackable Wraith tanks and optional Skull modifiers offer even more ways to play.
Suit up across PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs and more with GeForce NOW Ultimate, powered by GeForce RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud. Experience Halo with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies delivering higher frame rates and ultralow latency that keep every firefight feeling responsive and worthy of a Spartan.
From solo gaming to online co-op modes, GeForce NOW cloud saves let members log in and pick up exactly where they left off across supported devices — no lengthy downloads, extra storage space or expensive hardware upgrades required. The only thing left to carry is the mission.

There’s even more to explore with three new games joining the GeForce NOW library this week.
Take It to the Next Level in Toronto
The forecast is looking cloudy in Canada.
A new GeForce RTX 5080-powered GeForce NOW server is coming to Toronto, expanding service in the region and bringing dedicated cloud gaming performance closer to local members. The new server will roll out within days, giving more players access to top-tier cloud gaming across Canada.
Ultimate members can stream across PCs, Macs, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs and more with GeForce RTX 5080-class power in the cloud. Enjoy up to 4K resolution and beyond on supported ultrawide displays, up to 120 frames per second, plus NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies.
Bring on the ‘999 Nights’
Reality bends — on any device.
Step into the surreal world of NTE: Neverness to Everness with the NTE Version 1.2 “999 Nights” update.
This version introduces a massive gameplay evolution, plunging players into an immersive, tabletop-inspired fantasy role-playing game on the Warren Continent — a new permanent game mode featuring its own dedicated progression system.
This narrative and mechanical expansion is elevated by the debut of two powerful characters, Shinku and Iroi, alongside an unprecedented fashion upgrade featuring a sweeping collection of 19 new character outfits.
To top it off, exploration gets a high-octane upgrade with Draco, a revolutionary new motorcycle vehicle, making this version an absolute playground for combat strategy, stylish customization and high-speed urban traversal.
Plus, GeForce NOW will soon be rolling out native touch controls to NTE: Neverness to Everness, which will make it even easier to explore the city’s mysteries from supported mobile devices.
Look for the game in the GeForce NOW app to seamlessly jump between devices and continue the adventure — no downloads, storage space or expensive additional hardware required.

Known for its dynamic combat, diverse roster of Skyfarers and thrilling online co-op, Relink returns with fresh story content as mysterious beings known as the Ragnalia threaten the Zegagrande Skydom. Strange gateways, powerful new foes — including the mighty Beelzebub — and fresh challenges await across the skies.
The expansion also introduces additional ways to play, including summon abilities that add another layer of combat strategy, co-op quest tiers and a solo mode filled with unpredictable encounters. Title: Crimson Moon battles demonic corruption on September 1
Date: Tue, 04 Aug 2026 16:00:48 +0000
Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/04/crimson-moon-battles-demonic-corruption-on-september-1/
Earlier this year, we introduced Crimson Moon, our gothic high renaissance action RPG. You play as a Nephilim, a powerful half-human, half-angel warrior sworn to reclaim the fallen city of Gildenarch from the demonic corruption consuming it.
Today, we’re excited to announce that Crimson Moon is only weeks away, launching on PlayStation 5 on September 1.
Play Video
Over the past few months, we’ve shared more of Crimson Moon’s brutal melee combat, replayable hunts and challenging boss encounters. Today, we’d like to focus on one of our favorite ways to experience the game: two-player online co-op.
Every hunt is better together
While Crimson Moon is fully playable solo, every hunt can also be tackled in two-player online co-op.
Co-op isn’t simply about having another player dealing damage. Every hunt dynamically scales between solo play and two-player co-op, ensuring encounters remain challenging however you choose to play.
You’ll also share a communal life pool throughout each hunt. If your partner falls in battle, you’ll have the opportunity to revive them and keep the hunt alive – but each death brings your team one step closer to failure.
Those are the moments we love most. A perfectly timed rescue as a boss enters its final phase, a desperate last-second victory… or watching an overconfident partner meet their demise when everything was going so well.
Whether you’re coordinating Weapon Arts, experimenting with different builds, or standing shoulder-to-shoulder against towering bosses, co-op adds a whole new layer of teamwork to every hunt.
Built for PlayStation 5
We’re committed to making Crimson Moon feel right at home on PlayStation 5.
Players on PlayStation 5 Pro can take advantage of native support for upgraded PSSR, helping deliver a sharper image as you explore the blood-soaked streets of Gildenarch and battle the horrors lurking within.
One adventure, two editions
From the beginning, our goal has been to create an action RPG packed with replayability, satisfying progression, and memorable co-op, while offering exceptional value to players.
Crimson Moon launches for $19.99, while Crimson Moon: Deluxe Edition will be available for $29.99.
The Deluxe Edition includes the Ceremonial Armor Set, the Axe of the Gods – a guitar-shaped axe worthy of any legendary Nephilim – and access to our upcoming Post-Launch Content Expansion.
If you decide you’d like to upgrade later, the Crimson Moon: Deluxe Edition Upgrade will also be available for $10, giving Standard Edition players access to all Deluxe content whenever they’re ready.
As a thank you to the PlayStation community, every PlayStation player – whether they choose the Standard or Deluxe Edition – will receive the exclusive Sonai Magistrate Armor Set at launch.
We’ll see you in Gildenarch
From your first steps inside Sanctus Clypeus to your final stand against the legendary Dead Gods, every hunt is an opportunity to discover powerful new gear, experiment with different builds, and push deeper into Gildenarch’s increasingly dangerous Wards. Gather your allies, for the hunt begins on September 1.
Title: Gameplay first look – Mafia: The Old Country’s Man of Honor expansion
Date: Tue, 04 Aug 2026 15:00:49 +0000
Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/04/gameplay-first-look-mafia-the-old-countrys-man-of-honor-expansion/
Hi everyone, I’m Josh Zammit, design director at Hangar 13 working on the Man of Honor expansion* for Mafia: The Old Country. We’re super excited to share the first look gameplay above, and I’d like to reveal a bit more about the Free Ride content included in the DLC.
Man of Honor features two new story chapters set in the earlier days of Enzo Favara’s service to the Torrisi crime family, letting you team up with respected mafioso Ennio Salieri to settle old scores. In addition to the two new story chapters, owning the Man of Honor expansion grants you access to a new set of exclusive jobs and extreme challenges we’re adding to Free Ride mode, along with new collectibles and locations added to the Valle Dorata map.
Play Video
If you haven’t played Mafia: The Old Country yet, Free Ride mode lets you explore the Sicilian countryside at your own pace, or take on a collection of repeatable Challenges separate from the critical path that include combat encounters, stealth missions, and different kinds of races. In the new Man of Honor Free Ride content, you’ll take on new assignments from Salieri himself, who has set up shop in a Porto Almaro warehouse where he spends his days devising new schemes and smuggling stolen goods.
Longtime Mafia fans know Salieri well, given his central role as the Don of his own crime family in the city of Lost Heaven, where the original Mafia and Mafia: Definitive Edition take place. Making Salieri the focal point of Man of Honor lets us showcase who he was before his emigration to America and subsequent rise to power, deepening his backstory in a really engaging way. Though still feared and respected in Sicily, this younger Salieri is much scrappier and has to hustle to get his cut of the Family’s various rackets.
With Salieri as your new point of contact for Man of Honor’s Free Ride content, you’ll drop by his hideout to pick up two types of contracts: Challenges and Jobs. Salieri’s Challenges follow a similar format to the ones you can currently take on in Free Ride mode, but with amped-up difficulty that will test the mettle of even the most seasoned soldato. Salieri’s Jobs introduce brand-new mission types, tasking you with tracking down your objective and dealing with anyone who tries to get in your way. Seeking hidden caches of valuable loot, towing high-value vehicles back to Salieri, delivering stolen trucks full of precious-but-fragile goods—whichever job you take, success will line your pockets with extra Dinari.
You can spend those ill-gotten gains to add new outfits, Charms, weapons, vehicles, and horses to your collection, all exclusive to this expansion. As you can see in the gameplay footage, the unique weapons and Charms you can earn in Man of Honor gave us space to play around with perks that push just beyond the bounds of period-accurate realism.
For example, take the Rimbalzu throwing knife, which bounces to a second target so you can quickly and silently take down multiple enemies from the shadows. It would take near-impossible skill to throw a ricochet between targets every time, but the effect is incredibly fun and empowering, especially for players who prefer the stealthy approach. We wanted to design fresh and exciting weapons for a range of playstyles, and the added stopping power of these additions to Enzo’s arsenal can help give you an edge during Salieri’s most difficult assignments.
Along with all the new items and missions on offer, there are plenty of optional activities you can seek out as you explore the Valle Dorata. Keep your eyes peeled for collectible Wanted Posters which, in keeping with a fun series tradition, use members of our development team (myself included) in period-accurate attire for their mugshots. You can also soar through the air in your turn-of-the-century automobiles via added Stunt Jumps, or destroy delivery trucks loaded with sulfur to hit back at the people who betrayed Salieri.
The Man of Honor expansion for Mafia: The Old Country arrives next week on August 14. We can’t wait to see how you tackle the new content in Free Ride mode, and what the fans think of a younger Ennio Salieri in the added narrative content. Until then, mafiosi.

Last month was filled with adventures big and small, sports action, and spiritual battles! Some big new releases included Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, Denshattack, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, and more. Which game was your favorite?
How does it work? At the end of every month, PlayStation Blog will open a poll where you can vote for the best new game released that month. After the polls close we will tally your votes, and announce the winner on our social channels and PlayStation.Blog.
What is the voting criteria? That’s up to you! If you were only able to recommend one new release to a friend that month, which would it be? Note: re-released games don’t qualify, but remakes do. We define remakes as ambitious, larger-scale rebuilds such as Resident Evil 4 (2023) and Final Fantasy VII Remake.
How are nominees decided? The PlayStation Blog editorial team will gather a list of that month’s most noteworthy releases and use it to seed the poll.

Title: Beast of Reincarnation hands-on: parry-rich combat and the cutest mutant pup
Date: Mon, 03 Aug 2026 08:00:10 +0000
Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/03/beast-of-reincarnation-hands-on-parry-rich-combat-and-the-cutest-mutant-pup/
Even from its first full reveal in 2025, Beast of Reincarnation was making all the right noises. Roaring through the crowd of impressive action role-playing games, Game Freak’s trek into a post-apocalyptic Japan blends the mythological with the mechanized into something fresh – helped by a “one woman and her dog saving the world”’ narrative.
But that’s not everything Beast of Reincarnation brings to the PlayStation 5 wilds. After spending a lot of time with the full game ahead of its August 4 release, I experienced a touching story, in-depth game mechanics, intense Souls-like combat, and quite possibly the most adorably blighted giant dog companion anyone could wish for.
A world of mutated mystery
4026 Japan is not a place we would recognize. Plants, birds, beasts, and even humans have been overwhelmingly corrupted by a strange cataclysm called the Blight. Entire Blight forests have spread their poison far and wide, pushing the remnants of humanity into scattered settlements. And chief of all the mutates are the Nushi, powerful and often colossal beings who spread fear and destruction wherever they roam. The cause of all this is said to be the fabled Beast of Reincarnation, which resurrects every 100 years. And so one person is tasked to end this cycle of doom…
Humanity’s last hope
Blighted from birth, Emma is an outcast with no memory of her origins. She’s initially stoic and near emotionless, punished by her colony for her affliction. But her condition also makes her valuable, able to absorb the powers of each defeated Nushi to herself, with the aim of using that power to kill the Beast. Of course, as the game progresses you discover it’s not that simple, but for us as players it makes Emma the perfect character to explore beautiful but sinister forests, the crumbling ruins of civilization, water logged underground bases, and mysterious habitats.
Parry or die
Emma is an incredibly versatile protagonist, feeling light and agile on the DualSense controller. She’s equipped with swift sword swipes via R1 that can be chained into a combo, projectile weapons including bolts and arrows that can offer a tinge of resistance when pulled on an adaptive trigger, a nimble dodge with a tap of the Circle button, and a block and parry using L1. And this is where Souls fans will rejoice – because that parry is the key to survival.
Fighting against early beasts and basic corrupted golems – humans who escaped the Blight by trapping their souls inside a machine – was fun and easy enough but hacking away on R1 won’t get you very far against the smarter, tougher, or larger foes. My first encounter with Chapter One’s tricky boss, a colossal deer-like Nishi, was just a hint of what was to come, its vicious and repeated antler attacks requiring parries to open up a counterattack. Later in the game, mini-bosses and enemies with more complex unblockable assaults required pin-point parries and counters to win. Timing is everything.
Wielding the power of corrupted nature
Thankfully, that’s not everything to Beast of Reincarnation’s layered combat system. Antagonists can be staggered by reducing their relevant meter with multiple attacks and leaving them open to a finisher using R1. I was also able to perform instant kills on grunts by sneaking up on them or taking satisfying headshots with a projectile. While the Square button unleashes Emma’s devastatingly effective Nushi Skills and Blade Arts combos.
But mastering Emma’s Blight abilities is the real game changer. Tapping R2 when a jump point is highlighted in the environment fires out root-like tendrils of her hair to yank Emma to higher areas. Similarly, holding down R2 creates a temporary hair platform that Emma can walk across, and the Cross button raises Emma high into the air with her locks. Using her verticality as a distancing technique was not only valuable in combat, but it meant I could utilize a ‘death from above’ assassination with R1. This levelled the field against multiple enemies who have a cone of vision I could exploit and led to a rewarding victory in a particular fight against a tough pike-wielding golem and his small army.
And then there’s Emma’s best boy by her side…
Genuinely, Koo is the bestest of boys
The large wolf-like Koo is the perfect battle companion, able to be directed to attack enemies, or utilising his powerful Bloom Arts, a turn-based menu style special attack which you select using Triangle. If I was able to time my following button press correctly during the short corresponding mini-game, Koo’s Bloom Arts skills were invaluable, especially as the Fluorescence Points used to unleash them are earned via successful parries. When combined with Emma’s time slowing Entanglement Overdrive after pressing L3 and R3 together, the duo quickly became a formidable force in my hands.
Koo also guides you to objectives with a visual pheromone indicator, barks when he finds something of interest, and even brings back items to Emma. While Koo has his own life bar, he’s hardy and capable, and you can expand his skill slots by increasing Emma’s rapport with him via petting him (creating a pleasing tremble of the DualSense controller haptics), giving him treats, and keeping him clean via a shower available in the Cleanse Walker, Emma’s mobile base.
Food, systems, and skill trees
There’s a lot of hidden depth in Beast of Reincarnation, too. Multiple weapons can be found and enhanced, skill trees for both Emma and Koo meant I was unlocking more abilities as I progressed, different enemy types fought each other on sight making combat even more entertaining, and the presence of the mysterious Violet – who only Emma can see and hear – offered intriguing questions to the narrative.
And that’s not even mentioning the importance of food. Emma and Koo will only naturally heal from their wounds if their hunger gauge isn’t empty. But food also offers bonuses to stats like HP, Attack, and Defense, so they’re not just another resource check. And better yet, Emma’s surrogate little sister Kagura can cook meals from ingredients you find on the field, her culinary skills increasing the more you engage with her, and her meals becoming more expansive and beneficial based on the recipes you bring back. I was even able to raise a chicken for eggs and grow crops on the Cleanse Walker to give Kagura more food options, with different seedlings having various harvest times.
A beastly battle
Emma and Koo’s adventure is a lengthy one, full of intrigue and tender narrative beats to accompany its rousing and challenging combat. So if you’re game for the hunt, you better sharpen your sword skills ahead of Beast of Reincarnation’s PS5 release on August 4.
Title: Silent Hill: Townfall Developers discuss the Scottish setting, retro technology, first-person combat

Launching September 24 on PlayStation 5, Silent Hill: Townfall marks the latest entry in the iconic psychological horror franchise. In this article, we bring you insights from Motoi Okamoto, producer for the Silent Hill series at Konami and Jon McKellan, writer and director at Scotland-based developer Screen Burn Interactive.
Could you share why you chose Screen Burn as the development team for this title?
Motoi Okamoto: We were introduced to Screen Burn by Annapurna Interactive, who co-published the title with us. Annapurna has an incredible track record of success with narrative and art-driven indie games, so we fully trusted their taste. I had personally played Screen Burn’s previous titles Stories Untold and Observation, and both were fantastic, so I felt confident leaving the project in their hands.
When asking Jon to handle the narrative, were there any specific requirements or guidelines regarding what makes a game “Silent Hill?”
Okamoto: While Konami does have an internal “bible” or storyline guidelines, I believe the most crucial part of the process is for the developers and writers themselves to analyze the Silent Hill series and build their own bible. Handing over a thick manual from our end wouldn’t necessarily resonate with a team. That’s why we ask every development team we collaborate with to go through that personal discovery process.
What were your thoughts on setting the game in Scotland?
Jon McKellan: Scotland is where we grew up; it’s the environment most familiar and natural for us to depict. To create a meticulous, persuasive setting, we felt it was essential to build a world we knew inside and out. That’s why we chose Scotland. On top of that, Scotland is naturally a very foggy region, making it a perfect fit for Silent Hill. There were times when we’d take photos outside and think, “We’re literally standing in Silent Hill right now…”
Okamoto: Silent Hill frequently collaborates with development studios worldwide. Through these partnerships, we can blend diverse regional cultures and perspectives to deliver fresh, innovative horror experiences.
This title marks the first full-length Silent Hill game to adopt a first-person perspective. While Silent Hill: The Short Message (released in 2024) also used first-person viewpoint, it was a smaller standalone experience. Despite being developed by different teams, did that title influence Silent Hill: Townfall?
Okamoto: Beyond having different developers, the production timelines were completely different, so there was no direct exchange of technical know-how. The fact that both Silent Hill: Townfall and Silent Hill: The Short Message ended up in first-person was purely coincidental.
McKellan: Since there was no overlap, our team at Screen Burn was able to play Silent Hill: The Short Message with a completely fresh perspective. For Silent Hill: Townfall, a first-person viewpoint was an indispensable foundation for integrating the mechanics around the CRTV device. Honestly, the CRTV couldn’t work from any other perspective. While the first-person view brings many changes compared to traditional titles in the series, we took great care to maintain that distinct, atmospheric Silent Hill feel and presentation.
What was the motivation behind evolving the series’ iconic radio into the CRTV?
McKellan: The concept of changing the radio to the CRTV was there from the very start of development. In the earliest stages, it was a standard radio, but we set a challenge for ourselves: how could we make the radio an active tool rather than a passive one? By turning it into a visual device where you can watch video signals in addition to hearing audio, the possibilities exploded—from how we handle narrative presentation to how it integrates into gameplay, like stealth. Plus, as you might be able to tell from Screen Burn’s past games, figuring out how to manipulate slightly outdated analog technology is right up our alley.
Are there scenes that simply couldn’t exist without the CRTV?
McKellan: So much of the presentation and gameplay was designed around the premise of the CRTV. Rather than asking “Which scenes couldn’t exist without it?”, we approached development by asking, “How can we best leverage this device to its fullest potential in every moment?”
Could you tell us more about your meticulous, almost obsessive, dedication to recreating retro gadgets and environments? How do you feel that enhances the Silent Hill experience?
McKellan: Older analog tech and gadgets mean a lot to us, and we have a real fondness for them. Nostalgic elements like these are things that not just us, but players everywhere have touched and experienced, evoking a sense of familiarity. We deliberately designed moments that play against those nostalgic feelings. In a modern context, analog technology feels a bit unstable, unreliable, or hard to trust completely. We wanted to create a situation where players have to rely on this device to survive, even while feeling uneasy about relying on it too much.
As for our environmental design, we take pride in saying it borders on obsession. Believing that a place actually exists is what makes players truly care about it, and making players care is the most important thing of all.
Red and black are used very prominently in this game. What was the intention behind this color palette?
McKellan: Part of it is simply that they are a striking pair of colors, but as you progress through the game, players will discover that these two colors hold a deeply symbolic and vital significance for our protagonist, Simon.
The creatures in Silent Hill: Townfall feel tougher than in previous entries. Is the game balanced to favor stealth over combat?
McKellan: We’ve provided players with multiple options to handle encounters. Rather than forcing a single playstyle, we want players to experiment and discover which approach feels most effective or suitable for each situation as they fight to survive.
How did you approach the concept of multiple endings?
McKellan: The endings in Silent Hill: Townfall aren’t determined by a simple binary choice at the end. Instead, the culmination of the player’s actions throughout their playthrough dictates which ending they reach. We designed this freedom so that the ending feels genuinely earned based on the player’s unique journey.
Okamoto: All three main endings can be reached right from your first playthrough, whereas the secret ending becomes accessible after clearing the game once. It follows a structure similar to the original Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2, meaning players won’t be forced to replay the game two or three times just to see all primary endings.
Could you share how PS5 features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers enhance the game’s presentation?
McKellan: Through the DualSense wireless controller’s adaptive triggers, players won’t just feel the weight of firearms—haptics allow you to literally feel the footsteps of certain approaching creatures right in your hands. Motion control (gyro) also enables intuitive aiming. Early in development, I was actually a bit skeptical about how well motion controls would fit, but once we implemented them in-game, it felt so natural that I couldn’t go back to traditional controls.
Using motion controls, you can also manipulate the map as if holding it directly in your hands. Additionally, certain puzzles require you to physically tilt the CRTV—mimicking the everyday motion of holding up a phone to search for a signal, which is another fun way we’ve integrated the motion controls.
As a producer, how do you feel about the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback?
Okamoto: The Silent Hill series has historically been praised for its visuals and sound, but with the PS5, being able to bring the sense of touch into the horror experience feels like a massive step forward.
3D Audio is another crucial element for modern horror. How have you used sound design to heighten the terror in Silent Hill: Townfall?
McKellan: Because Silent Hill: Townfall is played in first-person, your visual field of view is naturally restricted, making audio far more important. We intentionally created situations in which players must rely heavily on subtle noises and audio cues to perceive threats lurking beyond what their eyes can see.
Silent Hill: Townfall launches on PS5 September 24.

Title: The demo for 500 FINGER FILLET taught me that none of you should let me anywhere near a kitchen knife, also can someone call a doctor

I have learned something about myself today: I shouldn't be allowed near kitchen utensils. This is a problem because I am the cook of the house, and yet my time with the demo for 500 FINGER FILLET proves most unanimously that I am going to cut one, maybe more, of my fingers off. It feels like an inevitability, one I can't escape from, because I did in fact cut off almost every single finger on my left hand in 500 FINGER FILLET, an incredibly stressful roguelite where you only need to click your left mouse button.

Title: This Game Costs 200 Dollars is a game that really does cost $200, doesn't look very good, and almost made its dev $1.3 million

I do not have $200 to spare on one single video game right now. In this economy, spending such an obscene amount of dough on one game would be tantamount to throwing it down the drain, it would position me as a bourgeois elite who cares not for their fellow persons, it would label me as someone so silly that they should never be trusted with anything ever again. The funniest punchline to this would be that I did in fact spend $200 on a video game, specifically a video game called This Game Costs 200 Dollars, but I didn't do that because [see my opening comment]. Instead, I will tell you about how this game almost made its developer $1.3 million.

Title: Sci-fi MMO Cinder City is getting a pre-alpha playtest later this month so you can put its RAM hogging requirements to the test

I haven't the foggiest idea whether Cinder City will be any good or not. Visually, if you showed it to me without a logo or any form of identifying information, I'm not even sure I could distinguish it from any other sci-fi shooter. But the shooting looks PS3 as hell, with slightly awkward movements made moreso by the realistic look, and a futuristic HUD that seems like it's meant to be diegetic. How it actually feels is another question, but one that some of us can soon answer, as sign ups for a playtest are now open.

Title: Is 8GB VRAM enough for a graphics card in 2026? Yes, but GPU makers should still try harder
Date: Tue, 04 Aug 2026 15:07:03 +0000
Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/is-8gb-vram-enough-for-a-graphics-card-in-2026-yes-but-gpu-makers-should-still-try-harder
The amount of memory a PC needs is a matter that's divided PC owners since before the days of DDR1. Different apps, games, and in-game settings all have different demands, so what works for one rig can be quite different to what works for another. In 2026, with component prices so stratospherically high - Nvidia and AMD are both cranking theirs up still - what truly constitutes a need is up for even further debate.
There’s no better example of this argument than around VRAM, or video RAM. While a - shall we say enthusiastic - school of thought has developed around 8GB becoming insufficient for modern demands, that's done little to change the hardware makeup of low-end and mid-range graphics cards that are going on sale. Nor has it apparently convinced many players to upgrade. Indeed, the majority of Steam users still play on GPUs with 8GB VRAM or less.

Title: 13th century Mongolian courier sim The Legend of Khiimori becomes a battle against supernatural "poison of the earth spirit" with its Corruption Update

Up to this point, The Legend of Khiimori is a game I've primarily known as that pretty chill-looking Mongolian mail delivery game heavy on horses. Sure it's clearly got some survival elements to it, but the main draw has always - and from what Edwin's told me based on his time with it - been in galloping across pleasant plains.
However, with Khiimori's latest update, those plains have become infected by a supernatural scourge.
