Title: PS5’s Exciting New Zelda-Like Kena Game Just Got Delayed Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 19:19:51 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps5s-exciting-new-zelda-like-kena-game-just-got-delayed/ Developer Ember Lab has announced that its upcoming PS5 game Kena: Scars of Kosmora, the sequel to 2021's much-loved Kena: Bridge of Spirits, has been delayed. The game--which gives off major Zelda vibes--was previously set to release this year, but now it's been delayed to 2027. In a blog post, the developers said they need more time to "deliver a top-notch game that exceeds the quality" of Bridge of Spirits. "Pushing our release into 2027 gives us the ability to really polish the expanded game experience we want to deliver," the studio said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhgxkBxiCyg Scars of Kosmora is a linear adventure game, just like the 2021 entry, but the sequel has a "broader and deeper scope," the studio said. "We hope you’re just as excited to jump into Kena’s next adventure as we are to share it with you. We’ve been working hard to fill it with the wonder, charm, and challenge fans have come to expect," the team added. "We appreciate your patience and support as we take the time for Scars of Kosmora to be the evolution of Kena’s journey and experience we want to deliver." In Scars of Kosmora, main character Kena is now a seasoned spirit guide and embarks on a journey to the island of Kosmora to find a "cure for her affliction and to reconnect with a friend from her past." The island holds a "powerful corruption" that fractures her staff, so Kena adopts a new method of manipulating the elements to her advantage. "On her journey, Kena discovers and nurtures memorable spirit companions-- whose powers she will harness to solve puzzles and defeat enemies using new elemental abilities," reads a line from the game's description. 2021's Bridge of Spirits was released initially on PS4, PS5, and PC, and later came to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in 2024. A Switch 2 edition arrived in March this year. Kosmora has been confirmed only for PS5 and PC so far.
Title: GTA 6’s Weather System Sounds Like A Big Step Up Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 18:30:55 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6s-weather-system-sounds-like-a-big-step-up/ Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6 includes a number of updates and improvements over the developer's past games, and that includes new weather systems. Rockstar's vice president of art for lighting and rendering at Rockstar, Owen Shepherd, told Game Informer that the studio has "re-engineered" the studio's weather system to "make everything more more localized and persistent." He said the goal was to make the weather in GTA 6's setting of Leonida--a stand-in for Florida--feel "dynamically solid and achieve a sense of scale" that the studio has never done before. GTA 6 launches on November 19. What that means in practice is that GTA 6 will have "fully dynamic cloudscapes that roll across the map" to provide a "broad spectrum of weather" in the game. Florida is known for its heat and humidity, along with its localized and fast-moving rain systems. Look one direction and you may see bright sunshine. Look the other and you could see a downpour. GTA 6 will replicate this with localized rain showers, along with rainbows that appear. Additionally, places where it recently rained in the game will remain wet, with puddles also popping up. GTA 6 also has a new wind system that includes "offshore breezes after sunset, convectional updrafts, and occlusion from buildings,” Shepherd said. “Hair and debris will swirl around on rooftops; gusts of wind will blow ripples over the water surface and bend the grass in swamps.” GTA 6 will also include tropical storms and hurricanes, along with thunder and lightning. Shepherd did not, however, get into how GTA 6's new weather systems could affect gameplay. Florida is known to experience devastating hurricanes, but it remains to be seen if, for example, a hurricane could knock down structures or trees. GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, priced at $80 for its standard edition and $100 for the Ultimate Edition. Rockstar is also selling a $400 collector's edition that includes a bunch of physical goodies, but not the game.

The Steam Autumn Sale runs October 1-7, and as you'd expect in a month with tempting pumpkin-spice lattes, this is a dangerous time for your wallet. We're expecting the usual selection of discounts across games, bundle deals, and a chance to stock up on cheap downloadable content, plus a few hidden gems to help grow our backlogs. As a reminder, the Steam Summer Sale will be followed by several more events throughout the rest of 2026. This month, you can look forward to Cooking Fest (October 12-19), Next Fest (October 19-26), and Steam Scream V Fest (October 26 - November 2). November has a single event with Auto-Battler RPG Fest, and the Steam Winter Sale will land in December. After the 2026 season is done, you'll have to wait until March 2027 for the Steam Spring Sale. You can check out the list of upcoming events and dates through our Steam sales hub. Rez Infinite  Sale price: $7.49 (normally $25) One of the few games I've consistently played for years and will likely play as long as I live, Rez Infinite is a euphoric experience with an all-time great soundtrack and fun on-rails shooter gameplay that can be as chill or intense as you want. -- Chris Pereira See on Steam Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Sale price: $56 (normally $70) Hideo Kojima's post-apocalyptic courier game is a gorgeous trek across an Australian wasteland and undoubtedly one of the weirdest entries in his eclectic catalogue. -- Darryn Bonthuys See on Steam Tactical Breach Wizards Sale price: $11 (normally $20) Drop the roguelite nature of Into the Breach and substitute a compelling story, hilarious dialogue, and the ability to routinely launch enemies out of windows to their doom, and you've got Tactical Breach Wizards. -- Chris Pereira See on Steam Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Sale price: $49 (normally $70) Easily the best Batman game in over 10 years, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a goofy Caped Crusader adventure that's also a sincere tribute to the legendary Gotham vigilante. -- Darryn Bonthuys See on Steam Far Cry 6 Sale price: $6 (normally $60) It's not the best Far Cry game ever made, but Far Cry 6 at a 90% discount is a pretty great deal for open-world shooting, exploration, and trying to survive being in the crosshairs of a dictator played by Giancarlo Esposito. -- Darryn Bonthuys See on Steam Street Fighter 6 Sale price: $16 (normally $40) With a feature-film adaptation out next month, now is a great time to check out the best fighting game of the current PC and console generation, Street Fighter 6. -- Darryn Bonthuys See on Steam Meccha Chameleon Sale price: $4.19 (normally $6) One of the best friendslop experiences of 2026, Meccha Chameleon is the ultimate multiplayer hide-and-seek game and an absolute steal at its current price. -- Darryn Bonthuys See on Steam Iron Nest: Heavy Turret Simulator Sale price: $15 (was $20) Believe it or not, a brutal dieselpunk heavy-artillery game where you have to pull every lever and twist every dial to fire off devastating cannons is surprisingly fun! -- Darryn Bonthuys See on Steam Tempest Rising Sale price: $20 (was $40) Command & Conquer's current hiatus from PC gaming remains excruciating, but for fans looking for a nostalgic reminder of the real-time strategy glory days, Tempest Rising is a fine substitute. -- Darryn Bonthuys See on Steam Watch Dogs 2 Sale price: $2.49 (was $50) The first Watch Dogs was, mechanically, a very cool twist on the GTA formula with its grid-hacking gameplay and stealth. The story, however, was insultingly bad, and protagonist Aiden Pearce was barely even a character. Watch Dogs 2 fixes everything that made the first one disappointing, with a cast of relatable and entertaining characters, including new protagonist Marcus.  -- Gabe Gurwin See on Steam Gunpoint Sale price: $2.49 (normally $10) Thanks to its blend of on-point humor and extremely clever gameplay (revolving around stealthily hacking areas of a building to accomplish your goals), Gunpoint is without question the game I most often recommend for someone looking for a cheap game on Steam. -- Chris Pereira See on Steam The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy Sale price: $49 (normally $70) My clear Game of the Year for 2025, The Hundred Line is a blend of visual novels and tactics gameplay, melded with a truly audacious concept for the overall structure of the game that will keep you playing for a long time. -- Chris Pereira See on Steam Absolum Sale price: $19 (normally $25) Absolum is a stellar beat-'em-up that fuses the classic arcade genre with roguelike progression in an eerie original fantasy setting. -- Steve Watts See on Steam Big Hops Sale price: $13 (normally $20) This cute platformer about an adventurous frog has surprisingly great traversal mechanics, and now it's added eight-player co-op so you can hop together.  -- Steve Watts See on Steam Blade Chimera Sale price: $12 (normally $15) A masterful metroidvania from one of the best developers in the genre, Blade Chimera takes the strong exploration foundation of classics like Symphony of the Night and infuses them with a sci-fi future.  -- Steve Watts See on Steam Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Sale price: $30 (normally $50) Highly regarded as a fantastic Final Fantasy game and tactics game alike, The Ivalice Chronicles made this classic shine with new quality-of-life features and a retouched translation. -- Steve Watts See on Steam Level Devil Sale price: $5 (normally $7) This game is best described as a series of pranks, perpetrated on you, the player, as it constantly subverts your expectations in hilarious ways. -- Steve Watts See on Steam Blue Prince Sale price: $18 (normally $30) This roguelike puzzle game has you unlocking the mysteries of a shapeshifting mansion as you slowly find your way to the mysterious room 46, and beyond. -- Steve Watts See on Steam Solasta: Crown of the Magister Sale price: $3 (normally $30) A great alternative to Baldur's Gate 3 (especially if you've already put hundreds of hours into it), Solasta is a faithful translation of Dungeons & Dragons 5E to video games, complete with a deep combat system, a well-written (if basic) story, and the customization options you expect from D&D. -- Gabe Gurwin See on Steam Mad Max Sale price: $3 (normally $20) Built in the vein of Batman Arkham and Shadow of Mordor, Mad Max is the underappreciated third tip of WB Games' licensed trident from yesteryear, with exhilarating car combat gameplay set in a dieselpunk world that still looks fantastic today. -- Mark Delaney See on Steam Retro Rewind Sale price: $14 (normally $20) There are so many job sims out there right now, but if you're like me, none of them will hit the same as Retro Rewind, in which you operate a video rental store in the 1990s. Get in on it soon and you'll be well-acquainted before video game rentals are added to the game this fall. -- Mark Delaney See on Steam Observation Sale price: $6 (normally $25) Before the team put out Silent Hill: Downfall, Screen Burn created Observation (not to be confused with Bloober Team's Observer), a slow-burn sci-fi thriller in which players control an on-board AI, assisting the lone human investigating the disappearance of her fellow astronauts. -- Mark Delaney See on Steam
Title: Blizzard Isn’t Fixing Diablo 4 Season 15’s Biggest Bug Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 17:53:29 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/blizzard-isnt-fixing-diablo-4-season-15s-biggest-bug/ Diablo 4 Season 15's biggest bug, one revolving around Hellfire Torch and being able to equip more Unique charms than should be possible, won't be fixed this season, Blizzard has announced. Hellfire Torch is a new Unique charm that counts as an extra set charm and comes with some great beneficial stats, like +All Skills, +All Stats, and +All Resistances. Players can usually only have one Unique charm equipped at a time, but Hellfire Torch breaks that rule, allowing players to use it and another Unique charm. That's strong on its own, but there is currently a bugged interaction with Hellfire Torch that is allowing players to equip two Unique charms in addition to Hellfire Torch instead of one, granting even higher levels of power.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2L55dgNzpQ8 The bug seems to stem from Hellfire Torch being used first alongside the Seal of the Golden Epiphany, which allows players to equip up to three Unique charms. However, players are later swapping out Golden Epiphany for the Mythic Seal of the Diamond Mind, a seal that reduces the number of charms needed for set bonuses, but are still able to benefit from having additional Unique charms equipped. That, in turn, allows players to gain advantages from a full five-piece set bonus, Hellfire Torch, and two Unique charms all at once.  Now, Diablo 4 design director Dan Tanguay in a forum post said Blizzard is aware of the bug and said Hellfire Torch' s current behavior is "beyond what was originally intended." That being said, Blizzard will be letting it ride this season as it works towards a fix in the future. "We know many players have spent significant time earning the Hellfire Torch and building characters around it," Tanguay said. "Because of that, we want to be thoughtful about making adjustments mid-season that could disrupt those investments." Tanguay continued: "We've also seen the positive reception to the Hellfire Torch itself from many players. The item has created a lot of excitement this season, and we've taken note of the feedback from those who have enjoyed earning it and incorporating it into their builds. While we don't have anything to announce today, it is something we're considering for the future, which makes it even more important that we fully understand and address this interaction the right way." The post states Blizzard will continue to investigate the issue so that any future changes will be "implemented correctly and behave as intended."  Players in Season 15 just might be stronger than ever before. Alongside the bugged Hellfire Torch interaction, players can also use this trick to get around the game's crafted Mythic item restriction and fully deck themselves out in Mythic gear. It's just the last development in what has been one of Diablo 4's wildest, and most surprising, seasons yet. Season 15, Hell's Legacy, introduced all kinds of new content based on previous Diablo games, including boss fights against Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto ripped straight from earlier entries in the franchise. It's also filled to the brim with secrets upon secrets, including a showdown with the cow god Moophisto and even the return of the secret pony level, Whimsyshire, from Diablo 3. Diablo 4 will continue to receive new seasons going forward, but won't be getting new expansions, as Blizzard instead shifts its focus to Diablo 5. A new Diablo 4 class, the Amazon, will release as standalone DLC in the first half of 2027.
Title: PS5 Just Got A PS5 Pro-Like AI Upgrade, But Don’t Expect It Everywhere Yet Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 17:04:53 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps5-just-got-a-ps5-pro-like-ai-upgrade-but-dont-expect-it-everywhere-yet/ The base PS5 console is no slouch when it comes to games, but compared to the PS5 Pro, it doesn't pack the same visual punch. That could change soon, as Sony has unveiled a new AI-upscaling upgrade for the older machine called Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR). Like PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), it is designed to make games look sharper and maximize performance. While PSSR will still remain the "gold standard" for what Sony games can look like on PS5 Pro, QSSR looks like it'll offer a noticeable improvement on PS5. A result of the AI graphics collaboration with AMD, Sony says that it offers a "streamlined neural network architecture" for games. The only catch? For now, only two PS5 games will support it: Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei--which is getting a new Complete Edition this month. Here are a few samples of it in action: https://youtu.be/RcFYsDKbAIk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E929-XwrS_Q "QSSR adds more pixel-level clarity and stability to our environments, bringing out extra detail amidst the busy streets of Madripoor, the dense alleyways of Shinjuku, and many other areas across Logan's epic journey. It’s a perfect companion to the launch of Marvel's Wolverine, and it brings a great taste of the PS5 Pro experience to our players on PS5," head of technology at Insomniac Games, Mike Fitzgerald, wrote in a PS Blog post. Jasmin Patry, lead rendering engineer at Ghost of Yotei developer Sucker Punch Productions, added that QSSR excels at "resolving the fine details" in characters and environments that previously wasn't possible on the base PS5. Both PS5 exclusives are receiving a patch today to add QSSR as an additional graphics option, and Sony says it will be offered to all PlayStation developers soon. If it's implemented widely and across many more games, QSSR could become a big selling point for the PS5, as the console will be six years old in November. Price hikes have made it more expensive to jump into the current console generation, and for anyone who can afford the $900 PS5 Pro, stock seems increasingly harder to find as demand begins to outpace supply. In Japan, potential consumers are now being asked to enter a lottery system and prove they've played at least 60 hours over the last two years on their current PS5 console. In comparison, an improved gaming experience on a regular PS5 console sounds like it makes financial sense--even if the console was much cheaper when it first launched in 2020.

Title: 20 Years Later, The Departed's Best Line Is Still One Of The Greatest Quotes In Gangster Movie History Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 19:00:16 GMT Link: https://www.polygon.com/the-departed-best-quote-gangster-movie/ Yet, for all the memorable quotes the genre has produced, there is one that forever tops them all in sheer gravity. In the opening seconds of Martin Scorsese's The Departed, spoken over documentary footage of 1970s Boston desegregation riots and the unmistakable hum of the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter," Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) transcends standard tough-guy dialogue with a chilling monologue.

Title: AI upscaling is coming to PS5 Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 16:00:09 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/10/01/ai-upscaling-is-coming-to-ps5/ Since the launch of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) on PS5 Pro, players and developers have asked whether similar image-quality improvements could be brought to the PS5 console. PSSR analyzes game images pixel by pixel and uses AI to upscale them with more detail and stability than conventional approaches; until now, its computational demands made bringing that experience to PS5 impossible. Today, we’re excited to announce Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR): a new performance tier of AI upscaling. Born from Project Amethyst, our AI graphics collaboration with AMD, this quick new evolution of PSSR is built on two key innovations: A streamlined neural network architecture A hand-tuned implementation that maximizes performance on PS5 With these, we are bringing the benefits of AI-guided upscaling to PS5. While PSSR remains the gold standard on PS5 Pro, QSSR provides some notable improvements to both image detail and image stability on PS5. The first titles to use this innovative new library are Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei. Both are being patched today to offer QSSR as an additional graphics option on PS5.  Here’s what Insomniac Games and Sucker Punch Productions have to share about the benefits of this new technology: Play Video “Our team at Insomniac works hard to make sure each of our games is a showcase of PlayStation hardware, and we’re excited for Marvel’s Wolverine to be one of the first titles to bring this new QSSR technology to players. QSSR adds more pixel-level clarity and stability to our environments, bringing out extra detail amidst the busy streets of Madripoor, the dense alleyways of Shinjuku, and many other areas across Logan’s epic journey. It’s a perfect companion to the launch of Marvel’s Wolverine, and it brings a great taste of the PS5 Pro experience to our players on PS5. Personally, I love seeing how the PlayStation tech teams continually improve the PS5 platform, and I’m excited for more games to make use of QSSR in the future!” – Mike Fitzgerald, Head of Technology / Insomniac Games Play Video “At Sucker Punch, we’re excited to bring QSSR to Ghost of Yōtei players so that they can experience the world we’ve created with even more clarity and detail. QSSR excels at resolving the fine details in our characters and environments and does so with a level of temporal stability that hasn’t been possible on the PS5 console until now. We’ve long wished that all PS5 players could experience the incredible image quality that PSSR brings to PS5 Pro, and QSSR is a positive step towards that goal!” – Jasmin Patry, Lead Rendering Engineer / Sucker Punch Productions QSSR will be offered broadly to all PlayStation developers, and we look forward to seeing these improvements in many more titles going forward!
Title: Martial arts meet fluid platforming in Elta: Defy All Gods, with a free PS5 demo out today Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 15:00:44 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/10/01/martial-arts-meet-fluid-platforming-in-elta-defy-all-gods-with-a-free-ps5-demo-out-today/ Take the punchy, fast-paced combat of a brawler, the tight platforming and exploration of a search-action game, and a cute dragon companion (who’s also the millennia-old god you worship), and blend everything together with a dash of anime flair. That is the recipe for Elta: Defy All Gods, our upcoming game here at Afterburner Studios, launching February 2nd, 2027. Dive in with us as we explain how our action-platformer brings back the best from the classics while making it a fresh experience, what inspired us, and why you should jump into the free demo on PlayStation 5 today. Play Video A new take on action-platformers Action-platformers have had a resurgence of interest in the last few years, providing an interesting mix of combat, exploration, and story, but few have tried blending explosive hand-to-hand fights with labyrinthian, non-linear exploration. Elta: Defy All Gods provides just that: impactful melee action, mixing martial arts and magic, broken up by flowing aerial platforming and discovery across three winding sci-fi worlds. The challenge lies in mastering both combat and navigation; juggling enemies in dynamic encounters across sprawling worlds that won’t always hold your hand. The best way to explain our unique take on the genre is to coin a new term. We like to call Elta: Defy All Gods a “brawlervania”. Brawler enthusiasts will enjoy three martial art stances, each with their own skill trees, alongside magic systems to unleash built-up energy in massive attacks. Platforming players, on the other hand, will get a growing set of movement abilities with classic moves, such as the double jump, dash, wall run, and grapple. That’s not all though; Elta, your dragon, will be key, by giving you new unique abilities to hit harder and reach previously inaccessible locations. The inspirations behind Elta: Defy All Gods Veteran players will definitely catch nods to series we grew up with, like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, God of War, Darksiders, and Jak and Daxter. We take a lot of pride in honoring these classics, but we wanted to do more than just rehash them. To carve out our own identity within that familiar formula, we traded traditional weapon-based hacking and slashing for fluid, hand-to-hand martial arts. By weaving your dragon companion’s abilities right into your fights and platforming acrobatics, we hope to bring something fresh to the table. To find that specific energy, we also sought creative inspiration outside of the gaming realm entirely. Moving to TV screens, shōnen anime, and especially Dragon Ball Z, have been a massive inspiration for us, echoing the power fantasy you can experience playing the warrior monk Victus. With such a heavy focus on melee combat, we also turned to Hong Kong martial arts movies, ranging from the Ip Man saga to Shaw Brothers’ classics. These influences have been wrapped in a painterly art direction that makes each vista look like living concept art. The sense of power you get while playing echoes the sense of scale you feel when taking in each landscape. Reaching high ambitions as an indie team Despite the big-budget games listed above, we are not a large studio by any means. With three co-founders and a dozen core members, delivering on this game’s promise has been a real challenge for us at Afterburner Studios. It’s one that required us to lean heavily on our background in indie development. We’ve taken lessons from our previous game into Elta, finding clever ways to achieve bigger things with our small-sized team. While we’ve stayed true to our vision of a modernized take on classic mechanics, Elta has gone through constant iteration over the course of the last five years to allow us to deliver the best versions of this game to players – both in world, gameplay and tone. This was also made possible through a partnership with Focus Entertainment, the folks behind Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. By lending us their design, production, and QA experience, they allowed us to expand our vision and tackle a dream project – one that would only be possible with their support. Instead of getting slowed down by our ambitions, this fruitful partnership allowed us to double down on what we do best: crafting satisfying game feel. Game feel as our main priority At every stage of development, we’ve gotten the same feedback: this is a game that must be felt, controller in hand, rather than just watched. All our mechanics, in both combat and platforming, have been tuned to be as satisfying as possible. By using the haptics of the DualSense controller, landing punches and hitting platforms has a real tactile weight, resulting in a more immersive experience for PlayStation players. Ultimately, we want to create an action-packed adventure that puts fun first and continues to defy your expectations for what a small indie team can pull off. And you don’t need to wait to try it out for yourself: our free demo is available today on PS5, allowing you to experience the very beginning of Elta: Defy All Gods. Retrieve the lost dragon-god you worship, brawl corrupted enemies in intense melee combat, and explore Lerna, a glacial world filled with hidden secrets, ancient ruins, and industrial remnants. The full game releases on February 2, 2027, and if you pre-order, you can get the Vanguard Armor, a special cosmetic skin for Victus. Find Elta, face off against the gods and start the journey to bring salvation to your people with the free demo, available today on PlayStation 5.
Title: Return to Fabletown with The Wolf Among Us Remastered, out October 29 Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 13:00:49 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/10/01/return-to-fabletown-with-the-wolf-among-us-remastered-out-october-29/ Telltale’s The Wolf Among Us Remastered launches October 29. To get ready for Bigby Wolf’s enhanced tale we sat down with Telltale’s Matt Saia, the game director of The Wolf Among Us Remastered, and VP of Creative at Telltale, to talk about returning to Fabletown. The Wolf Among Us is one of Telltale’s most beloved series. Do you remember the first time you played it? What resonated most and stayed with you since?  Matt Saia: I came to it as a fan of Telltale having played The Walking Dead and Back to the Future. Wolf had a killer look and a werewolf in it, that was enough to get me in the door. From the first scene, the story, the contrast of these fables characters in the 1980s, and the neon noir style had me hooked. Their stories touched human emotions and stuck with me forever. What was the goal with remastering The Wolf Among Us?  We wanted to honor the Telltale legacy. This is a classic title, and it needed a respectful update. We avoided touching the story, the directorial choices, and the overall art style, those are sacred to us. The goal is to introduce new players to Wolf in the best way possible and create a fun experience for returning players by packing it with updated art and behind the scenes features. Ultimately, it was a love letter to fans. We’re all fans and we took time to make sure it is the best version of The Wolf Among Us that stays true to the original. Telltale added Noir Mode to The Wolf Among Us Remastered. What do you think this brings to the game?  Coincidentally, I was the person who added Shadows Mode to Telltale’s Batman series. We’ve treated it differently in Remastered. Unlike Batman, where we had highlights of color we’ve kept Wolf with a pure noir film vibe. The tone feels different when it’s black and white. I love the colors of the main game but, in Noir Mode, the shadows feel a little darker. Play Video Let’s talk about some of the technical improvements. How was it working with the original Telltale engine?  The old Telltale engine is quirky but cool. We started by moving it up to the latest engine used in the Batman series. Next, we created new shaders for things like shiny bottles, and inverted lines on moving objects like the ghost ship. The biggest challenge was lighting. It wasn’t something we intended to do but we realized anything we changed in any scene required that we redo the lighting. By the end, every scene in the game was relit. One of the biggest testaments to how good we got with the old engine is we built the entire Summer Games Fest trailer in engine. How about the Character art?  Our choice was to elevate the game that everybody loved. The remastered characters have amazing detail but when you look at Bigby, he looks like Bigby. I think that’s the balance beam you walk; we wanted people to say “That’s the Bigby I remember”, but if you go back and look at the original, the remastered one is unmistakably more refined.  Every single character went through concept to high-end model to final in-game model. All the textures and models are new and multiple times more detailed than the original game. If you did a simple up-rez, all you’re really doing is taking the curves and lines that are already there and making them smoother. Our process provoked more aggressive choices with how you treat the characters without losing who they are because you’re taking them from scratch. It was a big lift, but worth it. Is there anything from this remastering process that exceeded your expectations?   The werewolf. I think everybody wanted to change him in a big way, and we did. He is ferocious, so much more feral and powerful than the original but still true to The Wolf Among Us. Is there anything else you’d like people to know?   It was amazing to revisit Fabletown. The team was incredible. We love every dusty apartment and lit cigarette and, more importantly, the characters and story they tell. To me, that’s what makes a great remaster; when you know people poured their soul into it. We want existing fans to show up and know they are in good hands. For new fans, it’s an opportunity to be captivated by a fully-realized version of this amazing universe just as we all were. To everyone out there, thank you for sticking with Telltale and believing in us.   The Wolf Among Us Remastered launches October 29 and is available to wishlist now.
Title: Kena: Scars of Kosmora launches 2027, Ember Lab shares story overview Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 11:59:54 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/10/01/kena-scars-of-kosmora-launches-2027-ember-lab-shares-story-overview/ Since our announcement trailer in February, we’ve been heads down bringing Kena: Scars of Kosmora to the finish line. It’s been exciting to see all the anticipation and passion from fans. We can’t wait to share a new installment of Kena’s story with you! At the same time, we want to deliver a top-notch game that exceeds the quality we achieved with our 2021 debut, Bridge of Spirits, and at a much bigger scale. To do that we need just a bit more time. Pushing our release into 2027 gives us the ability to really polish the expanded game experience we want to deliver. In the meantime, we wanted to share more about the world you’ll get to explore soon! Like our first game, Kena: Scars of Kosmora is a character-focused linear adventure but with a broader and deeper scope than Bridge of Spirits. The world has much to offer for players who decide to venture out off the beaten path. Scars – Shadows of the past Before the events that unfold in Kena: Scars of Kosmora, Kena long studied as a Spirit Guide – equal parts warrior and spiritual healer. When the dead can’t move on peacefully, dangerous manifestations of their pain infect the environment. Spirit Guides fight back this Corruption to get to the heart of the issue. Despite her progress, Kena is beginning to see her limits. She’s helped spirits of the dead, but has yet to really explore what Spirit Guiding looks like for the living. Even deeper, she has always helped other people deal with their pain, but not always focused on her own… Her childhood friend Orfio believes the mysterious island of Kosmora holds the answers they’ve both been looking for. Kena sets out to meet him, hoping to discover more about her past and future as a Spirit Guide. The ancient Spirit Guides of Kosmora developed their own unique approach involving the four elements and Alchemystic Temples. Four interconnected cultures once thrived across Kosmora, each with a guiding Element that fueled its society – before a mysterious cataclysm destroyed one of them. Since that time, the spiritual symbolism of the elements has faded into Kosmora’s distant past. The guiding elements still play a large role in how each surviving culture lives, but the longer that ancient wisdom remains buried, danger grows… Kosmora’s complex Spirit Guide temples are a big part of the game. These dungeon experiences will challenge players’ skills and pay off with transformative rewards that propel Kena’s adventure. Kosmora – Living cultures But Kosmora isn’t only about the past. The island is home to multiple living cultures with their own histories, values, and struggles. Kena’s mission to uncover how Kosmora’s past collides with characters in each region, requiring her to apply her experience and adapt to evolving situations and new personalities. Her crystalline canine companion is tied directly into gameplay and the origin of the mysterious island. This ancient spirit not only serves as an exciting mount, but aids Kena in combat, both mounted and on foot, as well as solving Alchemystic puzzles. Together, our Spirit Guide and her new ally set out to heal Kena’s scars, as well as the scars that cut right to the root of Kosmora. We hope you’re just as excited to jump into Kena’s next adventure as we are to share it with you. We’ve been working hard to fill it with the wonder, charm, and challenge fans have come to expect. We appreciate your patience and support as we take the time for Scars of Kosmora to be the evolution of Kena’s journey and experience we want to deliver. Kena: Scars of Kosmora releases in 2027 on PS5 (physical & digital) and PC (digital). Wishlist today.

Title: RetroSpace offers a huge sci-fi playground for inquisitive space janitors, but I'm not that System Shocked by the tools at your disposal Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 15:29:29 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/retrospace-offers-a-huge-sci-fi-playground-for-inquisitive-space-janitors-but-im-not-that-system-shocked-by-the-tools-at-your-disposal In my time as a videogame partaker, I have crawled through approximately three billion airvents. I may well have crawled through more vents than you've had hot dinners. As such, any videogame that can get me excited about loosening a barred hatch and hauling my heavy ass into a square tunnel is doing something right. The Wild Gentlemen's new sci-fi immersive sim RetroSpace gives pretty fair vent. It hides them all over. You'll walk along a dilapidated, meandering corridor and your eye will be caught by a certain combination of shadows, flirtatiously screened by pipes. 'Can I fit behind there?' You ask yourself, and lo, you have revealed a shortcut to the head engineer's office. Elsewhere, switches peek from behind stacks of luggable crates, and bent guard-rails draw your eye to a footwide ledge leading around the next pillar. In general, RetroSpace does a nice job of squirrelling secrets into even the smallest chambers, and if the secret is very often a "rocket doughnut" or other inventory-clogging flotsam, sensing the prize and snuffling after it is a thrill. I hope the thrill will intensify as RetroSpace goes on, perhaps leaving a few of its obvious influences behind. Read more
Title: Control Resonant's New Game++ update also squashes some of my least favourite bugs, including the one where magic doors change my trousers Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 14:22:50 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/control-resonants-new-game-update-also-squashes-some-of-my-least-favourite-bugs-including-the-one-where-magic-doors-change-my-trousers Trippy hack 'n' slash sequel (and, for the benefit of anyone planning for this year’s Advent Calendar guessing game in the RPS Discord, my current second-favouritest game of 2026) Control Resonant has a big old update out today. As declassified by Remedy, it not only adds the pledged New Game++ mode for plus-deficient game replayers, but makes absolutely bloody loads of smaller bug fixes and quality of life tweaks. Read more
Title: I'm not sure the "AI" in my chair's lumbar support actually counts as AI, but it has been smart enough to fix up my spine Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 13:30:14 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/im-not-sure-the-ai-in-my-chairs-lumbar-support-actually-counts-as-ai-but-it-has-been-smart-enough-to-fix-up-my-spine AI is everywhere, exhausting to keep up with, and increasingly perceived as harmful to games. But that’s mostly generative AI; the more limited, less media-scraping and energy-hungry breeds of artificial intelligence can still play a harmless, maybe even useful role, especially on the hardware side. Even if it finds itself in some unexpected places, as is the case with HBADA’s X7 chair. While AI-powered lumbar support sounds like the kind of gimmicky nonsense that’s become all too common in 2026, I’ve been using an X7 for a week, and it’s... surprisingly effective? To the point where it’s literally changed my spine for the better, helping to deal with my recurring back pain and posture issues. It’s been a very pleasant surprise. Read more
Title: Capcom aren't just running out of Resident Evil games to remake - they're banking on it, with a mysterious "crossover" planned when the timelines collide Date: Thu, 01 Oct 2026 12:40:00 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/capcom-arent-just-running-out-of-resident-evil-games-to-remake-theyre-banking-on-it-with-a-mysterious-crossover-planned-when-the-timelines-collide Capcom have done a brisk trade in Resident Evil remakes this past decade. They've gone back to formula with Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4, not just bumping up the resolution and revarnishing the cutscenes, but writing new variations on the old survival horror fables. There's a Resident Evil: Code Veronica regurgitation due in 2027, and a Resident Evil 0 resurrection allegedly to follow in 2028. The problems with this strategy are perhaps expressed by my previous sentence's struggle to come up with extra synonyms for "remake": sooner or later, Capcom are going to run out of original games they can credibly overhaul. Including the forthcoming or rumoured projects, they've only got Resident Evils 5 and 6 left now before they hit the "modern era" inaugurated by Resident Evil 7, the game that introduced the fancy RE Engine used by the remakes.
