Title: Halloween’s First DLC Reveals Even The Bad Sequels Will Get Some Love Date: Mon, 05 Oct 2026 21:15:42 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halloweens-first-dlc-reveals-even-the-bad-sequels-will-get-some-love/ Halloween's first paid DLC is coming on October 27 in the form of a new skin for the game's killer, Michael Myers, and it's pulling from a source you might not expect: Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers. A free update on the same day will also add a fifth map, The Tower Farm, inspired by a location in the same film.  It may seem odd to jump to the fifth movie for the game's first DLC, but it's not the only piece of new content coming that day. There's also a second skin coming for Big Mike, borrowing from his look in the legacy sequel Halloween (2018). Each skin will run you $10. Survivor mains also have new things to look forward to, including two new characters, Michelle and Eugene, as well as Civilian Costumes Pack 1, which includes 14 outfits--one for each survivor character--and 42 colorings, or "tints." The new survivors will also go for $10, though that's for the pair, not for each of them, while the new styles and colors will be--you guessed it--$10 for the set. This content drop is the first of several coming to the game in its first year, development studio Illfonic said.  With 13 movies in the series, there's still plenty of ground to cover for Halloween, which makes kicking off its post-launch roadmap with Halloween 5 such an interesting choice. The appropriately autumnal farm map is more open than the game's earlier maps, making it harder to break line of sight from Haddonfield's boogeyman. I suppose that moody setting was too picturesque to pass up as an update just days before October 31.  Just days before Halloween, Halloween will look more like, uh, Halloween. As much as I love the 1978 original, I'm not particularly fond of most of the Halloween sequels, though Halloween H20 is probably dearest to me; I fondly recall seeing it on the big screen as a horror-obsessed nine-year-old, so I look forward to seeing that one reflected in the game down the line. In any event, I don't think the sequels' quality ought to keep the development team from bringing them into the game like this. Illfonic's game should be a museum to all things Halloween, and watching it become that over the next few years is an exciting prospect. I hope the licensing deal extends to the series' more oddball entries, like Rob Zombie's reboot duology and Halloween 3--the one movie in the series that doesn't involve Michael Myers. If the game follows the roadmap I've built in my mind, we'll see every version of The Shape on the character select screen one day. In GameSpot's Halloween review, I wrote that it gives players "a vibes-heavy experience befitting the timeless film, while also offering a unique hook that keeps the game from feeling like a rehash of the many horror multiplayer games that came before it."
Title: Uncharted 5: Everything We Know About The Unconfirmed Game Date: Tue, 21 Apr 2026 15:33:00 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/uncharted-5-release-date-trailer-story/1100-6539504/ Naughty Dog's Uncharted series sold millions of copies, got solid reviews, and was spun off into a movie starring Spider-Man actor Tom Holland--however, the game franchise has been dormant for years. Fans are wondering if Naughty Dog will return to its Indiana Jones-style action-adventure series, and while that remains to be seen, there have been clues about the future of the Uncharted series. There are no guarantees that Uncharted 5 will ever happen, but there is a chance. Here is everything we've heard so far about the next Uncharted game. In This Article "Never say never"A cryptic photo2026 rumorsWhat else is Naughty Dog working on?A different studio could make Uncharted 5"There's no story left for us to tell""Some planning" for Uncharted 5Naughty Dog chooses what it makes based on passionNaughty Dog has released nothing "new" on PS5 so farAll the Uncharted games so farWhen could we learn more? What about the next Uncharted movie? "Never say never" In 2022, Shaun Escayg, a Naughty Dog veteran who worked on Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy, said in an interview with GamesRadar that the team has a "never say never" attitude about making Uncharted 5. Uncharted 4 may have wrapped up series hero Nathan Drake's story, but that doesn't necessarily put a cap on where the franchise could go. "I think we can say for certain that we can never say never. Yeah. Uncharted is a franchise we love--that the studio loves. It's a world we want to see more of. So I can certainly say that," Escayg said. A cryptic photo Escayg, in February of 2026, posted a vague Instagram photo of a cannon in a tropical environment that was captioned "research." People are theorizing that Escayg went to Fort George at Trinidad and Tobago to help research a new Uncharted game. It's rumored that merchants stored records and valuables at Fort George, further fueling the connection to Uncharted. Nothing is certain, of course, and Escayg might have been referencing pretty much anything with his post, or nothing at all. 2026 rumors Most recently, multiple reports said Naughty Dog is making a new Uncharted game, and it's not another remake. Instead, it's said to be a new game, and that Nathan Drake actor Nolan North could appear in some manner. For his part, North said he's definitely game to come back, if he's asked. “110%. Absolutely. I think it would be one of the biggest games ever if they decided to do it. It just depends if Sony wants to make money,” he said at Gamergy in Puerto Rico prior to the recent rumors of Uncharted 5 (via DomTheBomb). “I absolutely would. I try to stay in shape just in case. I can’t see a scenario where I would say no. I always keep out hope.” I What else is Naughty Dog working on? After cancelling The Last of Us Online in 2023, Naughty Dog said it had two single-player games in development. One is the new IP Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and the other remains a mystery. Some believe it could be The Last of Us: Part III, which Naughty Dog has seemingly teased time and again over the years. Others contend it could be a new Uncharted game. A different studio could make Uncharted 5 If a fifth mainline Uncharted game is in the works, that doesn't necessarily mean Naughty Dog will make it. Studio head Neil Druckmann previously said Uncharted 5 could happen with a different developer. Naughty Dog would assist an outside studio to help make sure whatever team made a hypothetical new Uncharted game would get the "essence" right, Druckmann explained. "There's no story left for us to tell" In 2016, just ahead of Uncharted 4's release, Druckmann told GameSpot that there was no guarantee that Naughty Dog would leave Uncharted behind forever, but he sounded pretty sure that would be the case. "There's no story left for us to tell," Druckmann said. "Looking at the three games as setup, Uncharted 4 is the payoff," he elaborated. "If we're telling these stories honestly, and we're being honest with who these characters are, then we have to say, 'This is it, there's nothing else left to tell with this character. This is how it ends, and there's nothing to go on after that.'" Dovetailing with the above mention of how another studio could make a new Uncharted game, Druckmann told us in 2016 that someone could pitch Naughty Dog on a prequel and the studio might agree to that. Beyond the possibility of a prequel, some fans are wondering if a fifth game could take place after the events of Uncharted 4 and be told through the lens of Cassie, the daughter of Nathan Drake and Elena. In fact, the epilogue of Uncharted 4 had players playing as Cassie, walking through their home and discovering some of her father's artifacts that he himself found on his many journeys. The previous Uncharted games told Nathan Drake's story, and 2017's The Lost Legacy told a story from Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross' perspective. "Some planning" for Uncharted 5 According to Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, there was "some planning of an Uncharted 5" prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Henderson didn't have any further details about these apparently plans or what the story for a fifth Uncharted game might be--only that the idea was kicked around in some manner. That only makes sense from a business and planning perspective, of course. The Uncharted series is well-known, has passionate fans, and has been dormant for a while, making it a potential prime candidate for a new entry to appeal to fans and create new ones. Naughty Dog chooses what it makes based on passion Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann said in 2023 that he feels lucky that studio owner Sony trusts the company enough to allow Druckmann and other key decision-makers to choose what they make next. He said at the end of every project, "We purposefully explore several different projects" for what comes next. "Some of them might be a sequel, and then a bunch of new ideas. And then we feel like, 'Where do our passions lie?'" Giving Naughty Dog the freedom to choose its own projects makes sense. After all, Naughty Dog has delivered hit after hit for Sony, presumably earning them respect and reputation. At the same time, of course Sony management would be involved in some capacity in meetings about what comes next. A variety of perspectives are no doubt calculated when Naughty Dog sets out to make a new game. Naughty Dog has released nothing "new" on PS5 so far Naughty Dog has not released a "new" game during the PS5 generation. The Last of Us: Part II was released in 2020 for PS4 but didn't come to PS5 until 2024 in the form of a remaster, of sorts. There was also 2022's The Last of Us Part I, a remake of the 2013 game for PS5. A remastered version of The Last of Us: Part II was released for PS5 in January 2024. These are technically "new" games, but they are not brand-new games. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is expected to be Naughty Dog's first all-new game for PS5, but it's not scheduled to release until 2027 at the soonest. All the Uncharted games so far There have been four mainline Uncharted games released since the franchise debuted in 2007, in addition to 2017's standalone spin-off Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which focused on Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross. Here is a rundown of all 10 Uncharted games to date. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (2007) - Developed by Naughty Dog and released on PS3 Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009) - Developed by Naughty Dog and released on PS3 Uncharted: Drake's Deception (2011) - Developed by Naughty Dog and released on PS3 Uncharted: Golden Abyss (2011) - Developed by Bend Studio and released on PlayStation Vita Uncharted: Fight for Fortune (2012) - Developed by Bend Studio and released on PlayStation Vita Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (2015) - Developed by Bluepoint Games and released on PS4 Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (2016) - Developed by Naughty Dog and released on PS4 Uncharted: Fortune Hunter (2016) - Developed by Playspree and released on iOS and Android Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (2017) - Developed by Naughty Dog and released on PS4 Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection (2022) - Developed by Iron Galaxy and released on PS5 and PC When could we learn more? There is no indication that Uncharted 5 is real, let alone when it could be announced. That being said, Sony could announce it during one of its State of Play or PlayStation Showcase events, whenever the next one might be. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest. What about the next Uncharted movie? Beyond the games, an Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland was released in 2022. It made more than $400 million worldwide, and is the No. 8 highest-grossing video game movie of all time. Studio Sony Pictures said Uncharted could become a film "franchise," but no new movies have been announced. The Best PS5 Games In 2026 View Images
Title: Amid Uncharted 5 Rumors, Nathan Drake Actor Says He Would Come Back, But With One Catch Date: Mon, 05 Oct 2026 19:05:08 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/amid-uncharted-5-rumors-nathan-drake-actor-says-he-would-come-back-but-with-one-catch/ One of actor Nolan North's most famous roles is that of Nathan Drake in Naughty Dog's Uncharted franchise, but he wrapped things up with 2016's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. There are rumors that Naughty Dog is making a new Uncharted game, and North has said he would "110%" be up for coming back in a new game in the storied series. “110%. Absolutely. I think it would be one of the biggest games ever if they decided to do it. It just depends if Sony wants to make money," he said at Gamergy in Puerto Rico prior to the recent rumors of Uncharted 5 (via DomTheBomb). "I absolutely would. I try to stay in shape just in case. I can't see a scenario where I would say no. I always keep out hope." Nolan North in the Uncharted movie. North went on to clarify that he has not heard anything about a new Uncharted game where he might be asked to come back, but he thinks it would be a good business decision for Sony. "It is a business-my god, can you imagine if they did? It would be the biggest announcement in gaming. I don't think that's hyperbole. I think that's true," he said. North said he enjoyed working with Naughty Dog over the years on the four main Uncharted games, and that's part of why he would be up to come back. His one caveat, however, is that he hopes Naughty Dog wouldn't make something that doesn't live up to the franchise's legacy. He cited Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as an example of a middling movie in an otherwise great series, and he doesn't want that to happen for Uncharted. According to multiple sources, a fifth mainline Uncharted game will be Naughty Dog's next project after Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which is reportedly due for release in 2027. A third The Last of Us game could follow after. Intriguingly, the report said Nathan Drake would appear in the hypothetical Uncharted 5 in some capacity. Uncharted 4 was positioned as the definitive end for Nathan Drake’s story when it released in 2016, but Naughty Dog has repeatedly suggested that it is not done with the franchise.  When Uncharted 5 might release is anyone’s guess, but it’s more likely that it’ll arrive on the PlayStation 6 given that Sony is expected to release its next-generation console sometime in 2028.  North played Nathan Drake in the four main Uncharted games, but not The Lost Legacy. He had a cameo in the Uncharted movie, too.
Title: New Gears Of War: E-Day Patch Addresses Giant Vomiting Frog Error Codes Date: Mon, 05 Oct 2026 18:13:17 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-gears-of-war-e-day-patch-addresses-giant-vomiting-frog-error-codes/ Gears of War: E-Day rolls out worldwide starting October 6, and thanks to early access players, The Coalition has identified several issues that it's fixing with the game's first patch. Focused mostly on overall stability and performance across the game's campaign, multiplayer, and Horde Siege modes, the Gears of War: E-Day update is out now. One of the biggest fixes is the "Bilefrog-Kalona" error, an issue named after the gigantic subterranean Locust frogs encountered throughout the game, which regularly try to kill you by vomiting stomach acid at your position. Nasty stuff. The Coalition assigned several Gears-themed names to its network errors, and in this case, getting vomit-frogged is a specific split-screen multiplayer issue. This triggers when a split-screen player is automatically signed out of online services after the console or PC is suspended, then tries to use Quick Resume to hop back in. The Coalition says it has also addressed an issue in Versus Social matches that results in players entering a waiting-lobby limbo, and fixed an issue that could prevent certain Siege Blitz Secure objectives from being completed. For the campaign, several pesky problems across Act 2 are being patched, while other game-wide instances of sticky turrets and unearned War Journal progress have been resolved. These fixes come on the eve of the game's worldwide rollout on PC and Xbox Series X|S, and an influx of Game Pass subscribers are expected to enter Kalona starting tomorrow. While the overall story isn't the best Gears of War narrative, the game is still recommended for anyone who wants a big, dumb, and loud cover-based shooter that looks gorgeous on PC and Xbox Series X|S. "For better or worse, E-Day is distinctly Gears, and I had a good time with it, even if the story is disappointing and the open areas are fairly dull," Richard Wakeling wrote in GameSpot's Gears of War: E-Day campaign review. "But that’s all it is: a good game, propped up by combat that hasn’t changed all that much over the past 20 years. That’s enough to skate by, but I wish Gears of War would dig deeper." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teClq4qYyzQ Gears of War: E-Day October 5 Patch Notes Stability and Performance Made various stability, performance, hardware compatibility, and reporting improvements across the game Online and multiplayer services Addressed an issue causing some Versus Social matches to remain on the “Waiting for players” screen Improved Xbox authentication handling when the system clock differs significantly from the correct time Addressed "Bilefrog-Kalona" error, where a split-screen player could be signed out after suspending and resuming the game Improved online-session stability when accessing session information Campaign Addressed an issue where players joining an existing Campaign could receive War Journal progress and Forge rewards earned before they joined Addressed an issue where players could remain attached to turrets when a cinematic or gameplay moment began Addressed an issue where some join-in-progress players might not receive the expected Forge Discovery War Journal progress Act 2 Chapter 2: Addressed an issue where the objective could fail to update when entering Allfather’s Plaza after completing activities elsewhere in the mission Act 2 Chapter 2: Addressed an issue where the Heavy Gear in the Black Raven Down side objective could appear without a Vulcan Act 4 Chapter 1: Addressed an issue where certain side objectives could fail to start if players entered the objective area while introductory dialogue was playing Act 4 Chapter 2: Addressed one cause of the Power Station defense objective failing to complete after all visible enemies were defeated Horde Siege Addressed an issue that could prevent certain Siege Blitz Secure objectives from being completed Addressed an issue where the extraction helicopter could fail to appear during a Downtown West Blitz mission Versus Addressed an issue in Demolition where a bomb could become stuck in a defusing state if a player was eliminated while beginning the defuse interaction UI Adjusted the size and appearance of Online Diagnostic text Addressed one possible cause of the UI repeatedly attempting to claim the same Challenge Mail reward
Title: Why GTA Studio Co-Founder Is Avoiding GTA 6–And All Open-World Games Date: Mon, 05 Oct 2026 18:06:23 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/why-gta-studio-co-founder-is-avoiding-gta-6-and-all-open-world-games/ Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser left the company in 2020 and now runs a new outfit called Absurd Ventures. Houser will be forever connected to the GTA franchise, and he's now weighed in on GTA 6. He told Variety that he did not watch the "Extended Look" trailer and doesn't plan to. Why? He said he tries to avoid consuming things that are going to "disrupt me creatively." "And given that I spend a large amount of time trying to make open-world games, and the rest of my conscious time trying to figure out innovative ways to market them, I don’t need to see what other people are [doing]," he said. "I’m always trying to think about new ways of doing it, not sit there in some kind of comparison of what I would have done differently.” Also in the interview, Houser said he doesn't play a lot of open-world games anymore, for similar reasons. "I find when I play them, I can almost deconstruct the strengths and weaknesses of the team in real time and it’s distracting. I’m always thinking, ‘Well, their animation team is weak, but I think this game design is fantastic.’ And, ‘Oh, I can imagine that meeting when they discuss this feature,'" he said. "I’m not a game designer; I’m a sort of creative director. So I’m trying to always find new things that haven’t been done before, or that I can steal from older media, quite frankly or just inspired me or things I always thought about.” Jasona and Lucia in GTA 6. It's not that Absurd Ventures is burying its head in the sand, however. Houser went on to say he has a team of people at his company who take the time to examine "what everyone else is doing." He said when Rockstar began to develop Red Dead Redemption, he avoided watching any more Western films. For GTA, he said he avoided HBO's acclaimed mob show The Sopranos (1999-2007) because "it would have disrupted everything I did on GTA" if he had seen the show while formulating the GTA series, which was first released in 1997. "So I really try and avoid things that I think are going to overly influence me," he said. Houser is now working on multiple projects at Absurd Ventures, including an open-world comedy game that he will reveal further "in the next few months." Another is a dystopian sci-fi game about "video game development gone very wrong" when a rogue AI becomes sentient. He said in the Variety interview that "there could be no greater compliment" than to be forever associated with GTA. At the same time, Houser said he hopes some of what he works on at Absurd Venture can be successful in its own right. Dan Houser's brother and Rockstar co-founder, Sam Houser, remains at Rockstar and was involved in the creation of GTA 6. GQ writer Sam White recently posted a series of tweets (and then deleted them) saying an interview he had planned with Sam Houser fell apart at the last minute. That's notable because Sam Houser rarely gives any interviews at all, nor does he appear in Rockstar's official promotional efforts for the company's releases. GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. In other news, Rockstar recently revealed some of its secrets and detailed how a game like GTA 6 gets made.

And that means that, despite previous reporting, series creator Taylor Sheridan apparently won't be directly involved in the threequel.
Title: Multi-Stage Boss Fights Are the Worst Video Game Mechanic of All Time Date: Mon, 05 Oct 2026 20:00:15 GMT Link: https://www.polygon.com/multi-stage-boss-fights-worst-video-game-mechanic/ Boss fights have existed for almost as long as video games have. They serve various purposes: defeating them may be required for story progression, or perhaps they're optional, guarding rare loot. A fight may be against an entirely unique enemy, with new mechanics and animations, or it could be a tougher version of a similar foe you've already fought. They all have one thing in common though: winning a boss fight is one of the most satisfying things you can do as a player.

Title: GTA's Wanted Level Is One of Video Games’ Perfect Ideas Date: Mon, 05 Oct 2026 19:00:16 GMT Link: https://www.polygon.com/grand-theft-auto-wanted-level-opinion/ With Grand Theft Auto 6 so close that you can practically taste Leonida’s bog water, I’m starting to reflect on why the GTA series still excites me after decades of playing. It’s easy to write off Rockstar’s series as typical open-world games, but the truth is that GTA is filled with brilliant design decisions that are too easy to take for granted. Case in point: the Wanted system, one of the brightest ideas in a series full of them.

Title: Everything you need to know about DMZ mode in  Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Date: Mon, 05 Oct 2026 17:15:00 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/10/05/everything-you-need-to-know-about-dmz-mode-in-call-of-duty-modern-warfare-4/ DMZ is Call of Duty’s definitive extraction shooter experience, launching alongside Campaign and Multiplayer when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 releases on October 23. To help prepare you for this extraction game mode, here are the major highlights, starting with a tour of the Forward Operating Base and its many stations. Forward Operating Base The Forward Operating Base (FOB) is your command center for DMZ. Manage progression, prepare your gear, and plan the next deployment. As you complete Operations across Hajin, the FOB evolves with you, transforming from a foothold to a fully operational base with over a dozen different Stations. Here’s a look at the stations you can immediately access: Operators: Manage and select your Active Duty Operator, check their status, and select one for deployment. DMZ Orders: Where you review your current set of Missions downloaded to your Orders Tablet. Earn rewards for completing these structured objectives during deployments. Stash/Loadout: Stow looted items you’ve extracted with in your Stash. Equip weapons and gear in your Loadout, ready for the next infil. Firing Range: Test your equipped weapons at the FOB Firing Range against a variety of targets.   Deploy: A threshold of razor wire leads to a heavy-lift military transport waiting for your orders to deploy. Continue successful deployments within Hajin, and focus on expanding your base with more stations. Here’s what you can unlock: 3D Printer: Use Resources and 3D Printer Ingredients to craft a variety of gear. This is also used to upgrade various stations in the FOB. Gunsmith: Loot weapons and return with them, then use DMZ Cash to purchase attachments, or build brand new weapons by extracting from Hajin with a Weapon Manual. Vendor: Check the vendor’s wares and spend DMZ Cash on a selection of weapons and other helpful gear. The items on sale rotate from day to day, so buy something when you see it. Bounty Leaderboard: Gain intel on the most dangerous PvP Bounty hunters and killers active across Hajin. Boss Board: Need to track down a high-value target? Seek intel on Lieutenants, then drop into Hajin, search them out, and face down the exclusion zone’s most dangerous foes. Dog Tag Case: Display your trophies from defeated Operators. DMZ Progression: Ensure you’re leveling up in DMZ with this dedicated Progression Track, from 1-70. Unlock FOB stations and gain rewards every step of the way. Deployment Customize your match experience by choosing one of three deployment options:  Story Missions: Select and replay narrative objectives across Hajin for big rewards. Dynamic Operations: Deploy directly into a Dynamic Op to earn DMZ Cash and XP. Every completed Operation provides a Supply Drop of increasing rarity for your squad.  Free Roam: Deploy without a mission and lose yourself exploring Hajin City.  Tips for gaining DMZ XP Story Missions, Dynamic Ops, Orders: Prioritize completing Story Missions, Dynamic Ops, and Orders to earn valuable gear and big DMZ XP payouts. Boss Hunt: Hunt down Lieutenants and Commanders to earn major rewards. These tough enemies roam the map in different locations around Hajin, and when defeated, award plenty of XP along with their weapons and high-value loot. Loot Up: Loot consistently to acquire new items, use them at the 3D Printer back at your Forward Operating Base, and to improve your match rating. After Action Report: Fight the enemy, loot, and complete objectives to improve your overall deployment rating. Strive for an S Tier performance (or better) for the best rewards. Vehicles: Take advantage of the numerous vehicles throughout Hajin for faster travel across land, water, and air. Repair and refuel vehicles at the Gas Station. Threat Levels and more Each area of Hajin has a particular Threat Level associated with it. If you’re too loud, expect a violent enemy response specific to the area you’re in. It may be wise to be stealthy. This just scratches the surface of DMZ. Squad up and experience the exciting new game mode firsthand at launch and expect additional content in the updates to come. Modern Warfare 4 is available for pre-order now on PlayStation 5, launching October 23.

A year after the original game launched, PS5 players can dive into the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition. Available now on PS5, this brings together the story campaign, the Ghost of Yōtei Legends multiplayer mode, and two new major additions: the roguelike mode Most Wanted, and the narrative expansion Echoes of Sekigahara. To mark the Complete Edition’s launch, and celebrate the game’s first anniversary, we welcome back the voice of Atsu, Erika Ishii, to talk about the game. Note: The below interview is condensed for clarity and brevity. You can listen to the full chat on the latest episode of the PlayStation Podcast, available later today. Play Video PlayStation Blog: It’s been a year since the game originally launched. What has Atsu brought to your life since? Erika Ishii: I still can’t get over it, you know, because again, this was my dream. I played The Last of Us and I said, I want to do that. I already knew I wanted to act. I already knew I loved video games. But I said specifically – that. That is what I want to do. And… yeah, being on my PlayStation home screen, playing the game, getting to travel to Tokyo Game Show, which was another dream of mine. And to have a beautiful professional cosplay made for me of Atsu so I could be Atsu on the Sony PlayStation stage in Japan… it really does feel like a fever dream sometime. I was curious to know whether your dialogue for the expansion was recorded after the fact or part of the bundle together with the original recording. Sounds like you came back. So what’s the time gap there between that last piece of dialogue you recorded for the main story campaign and then coming back to the expansion? There were at least a couple of months between. They had to work really hard on polish to get the game out, then take a very well-deserved little bit of a break. But as we were nearing the end of production, I was inquiring constantly. “Are we doing DLC? Because Iki Island was really great and really fleshed out some stuff that I wanted to know about in Atsu’s backstory…” And I did have a list of pitches for them [laughs] They didn’t go with anything that I suggested. But even at the launch party I was talking with Courtney Woods, the writer for Echoes of Sekigahara. And we were scheming. We thought “Atsu needs a little romance in her life”. Like, there’s no way she didn’t have any romance. She mentioned [as such] in one of the onsen scenes. So you know she’d had bedtime bed companions at least. But what’s the deal with personal attachments? Is this the only time in her life up until now she’s had them? And so I got my wish. You had that little bit of time away. Did that time increase your awareness of the character, or anything you experienced outside the role that helped inform your performance of Atsu further? Pretty much playing the game. It’s wild because, you know, most of the time voice actors don’t get to play the game until after it comes out. I was fortunate enough [to do so] during production. But playing through the finished game and literally being hands-on and in her shoes. Because a lot of times, if it’s been a while since you’ve played a character, they’ll play you reference audio. But I could go directly to being Atsu, go right into the booth. It was such a gift. There are flashbacks. So it’s two periods of Atsu’s life. So how do you get into that headspace where you’re having to switch? A couple of things helped. We had done a lot of flashbacks with young Atsu. And so extrapolating what happened. Most of the time in acting you have what is called a prior moment. Before any scene starts you have to know where you were. You have to have a whole lived life experience prior to this moment. I already had to have it in my head and sort of know what she had been through and what this huge informative point in her life felt like. For an actor, you have to have [to be able to] drop in at any moment and be like, okay, well, I think that her time doing this probably informed how it’s going to be in the quote-unquote present day. Play Video This roguelike mode, Most Wanted. Did you record new dialogue for that? Yes, there is some new dialogue for that. Because it is a new mode and non-canonical, it has a slightly different feeling to it, more mystical, in the way that the multiplayer is more mythological. There’s a heightened quality to it. You’re not the only character in Most Wanted. There’s some familiar faces, but a surprise face is… Jin, who is returning, and I believe Daisaku Tsuji recorded new voice lines for this as well. I understand you didn’t crossover during the recording sessions but you folks must have got together to talk all things Ghost and just compare experiences? I got to chat with him [when he was in Los Angeles] and we chatted a little bit about it. And that was actually before the game had launched. I told him how much his work meant to me and how I’m grateful to be accepting the Ghost torch. In a lot of ways he was new to video games with Ghost of Tsushima. But since then he’s appeared in many other games. I think almost all of which I am also in. We joke that we’re bound together forever, and one of us will follow in the other’s footsteps. Last year I asked you where launch day would find you. You mentioned it was a gathering of folk from the game. So where does the first anniversary of Yotei find you? Oh, my gosh. I think the big thing is that the Complete Edition is out. I didn’t know the launch date until the rest of the world did. We all had a little betting pool as to when we thought this was going to drop. And I said, I guarantee it’ll be on the anniversary. I was one day off [laughs]. I feel like this is the one year celebration. It’s very bittersweet to me. It’s been four years of my life being her face, her movements and her voice, and helping to develop her and working with just like some of the greatest team of all time is…  Atsu is going to be a part of my heart forever. And, you know, when they have the PlayStation logos, they’re going to have a picture of Atsu, a picture of my face there. I still see cosplays at conventions. I… This is, again, to bring it back around to the beginning, this was my dream. And I think that what do you do when you accomplish the big thing when you get to the top of the mountain is you just got to keep going there. There are more mountains to climb, I think. I have the great privilege of, in addition to Atsu, having other characters or work that are a part of my oeuvre. I don’t have to be defined by Atsu, but she is… gonna always be so special to me.

Title: Noematica is a lucid dreamer's "n-dimensional" take on The Sims that proudly boasts it will never ever gouge you for DLC Date: Mon, 05 Oct 2026 16:37:44 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/noematica-is-a-lucid-dreamers-n-dimensional-take-on-the-sims-that-proudly-boasts-it-will-never-ever-gouge-you-for-dlc Over the course of my illustrious tenure as RPS news mangler, I have seen many Simslikes. Tragically cancelled Simslikes from publishers better known for feats of tactical incest! Corrosively telegenic Simslikes suggestive of a paved-over burial ground! Cottagecore "don't call me a Simslike" Simslikes! And now, finally, Simslikes that appear to have been conceived in the Red Room from Twin Peaks. The game I'm referring to is Noematica: Digital Dollhouse from Asphodel Cybernetics, which exhorts you to "behold the humble Noem! Beguiling and silly-pilled, fully customizable, monstrous or adorable: with an n-dimensional vector space of fantasies and memories." Here's a trailer - get beholding. Read more
Title: Claims that genAI speeds up PC ports of classic games are either "false" or missing the point, says Banjo Kazooie: Recompiled developer Date: Mon, 05 Oct 2026 15:13:13 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/claims-that-genai-speeds-up-pc-ports-of-classic-games-are-either-false-or-missing-the-point-says-banjo-kazooie-recompiled-developer The software developer behind an unofficial PC version of N64 platformer Banjo-Kazooie has posted an impassioned screed about the usage of generative AI tools for rush-job PC ports of classic games. The dev in question is DarioSamo, a member of the modder group who released Banjo: Recompiled earlier this year. He argues that the idea that generative AI allows for faster porting is either outright "false" or simply misguided, explaining that decompiling a game – that is turning the original machine code into human-readable code – in order to release on modern platforms is supposed to be an exercise in actually understanding and preserving how that game was made. Title: GTA 6 writer says the series has never had "much focus on national politics" beyond GTA 4's war on terror, and the latest entry won't get "too specific" Date: Mon, 05 Oct 2026 13:23:13 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/gta-6-writer-says-the-series-has-never-had-much-focus-on-national-politics-beyond-gta-4s-war-on-terror-and-the-latest-entry-wont-get-too-specific Details about and dev chatter concerning GTA 6 continue to drip out as part of the marketing push towards its console launch in November. This time, some of the aspects of it I'm most intrigued to see how Rockstar have handled whenever they deign to bring it to PC have been discussed - how they've approached satirising the societal climate of America in 2026 through allusions to politics and the American dream. Title: "Coders will never forgive me for this level": Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 has a rotatable "fleshmetal" puzzle map that drove its own development team crazy Date: Mon, 05 Oct 2026 11:56:04 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/coders-will-never-forgive-me-for-this-level-warhammer-40000-boltgun-2-has-a-rotatable-fleshmetal-puzzle-map-that-drove-its-own-development-team-crazy In the grim darkness of the far future, there is something far worse than war. There is: a level that is basically a huge, spinning lock full of tentacles, with your Space Marine or Sister of Battle protagonist naturally serving as the key. Auroch Digital's new FPS Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 launches next week, and I've been chatting to the game's principal designer Matt Bone about some of the more "creative" environments in store. It's a sturdy rule of thumb that all the best ideas in gamedev are the ones that make your colleagues want to fill your trousers with sea urchins. Bone certainly appears to have achieved this with the map comfortingly known as Vicious Circles. Read more
