Steam is abuzz this week with a couple of long-anticipated launches, but in Forza Horizon 6’s case, at least, the game isn’t even out for what will be most of its players. The anticipated sequel in the open-world driving game series doesn’t officially launch until May 19, but owners of its most expensive version - the Premium Edition - can play it right now. Read more

Title: Phasmophobia Studio Launches A Publishing Label With These Five Exciting Games
Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 19:30:00 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/phasmophobia-studio-launches-a-publishing-label-with-these-five-exciting-games/
Kinetic Games is expanding into the games publishing business. Before today, Kinetic has only been known for Phasmophobia, its four-player ghost-hunting game that first exploded during the COVID pandemic and has remained a favorite since then. It has apparently done well enough to allow the team to expand its business into publishing, as it's announced a group of five games that make up its initial publishing efforts.
The lineup includes one horror title--and man, is it a big one--and also features other kinds of games, including a punky racing game starring witches on broomsticks, a super-tense Papers, Please-like experience in space, a cozy game inspired by Spiritfarer, and a metroidvania game that does something even Hollow Knight didn't think of. Here's what's coming from Kinetic Publishing.
Precognition
Developed by Half Mermaid
In terms of name recognition, Sam Barlow's team at Half Mermaid is the biggest one attached to the new label. Project C, Half Mermaid's previously announced working-title project with Brandon Cronenberg (of the Cronenberg body-horror film dynasty), has officially been revealed as Precognition.
The team behind Immortality, Her Story, and Telling Lies is back again with another blend of full-motion-video gameplay, non-linear storytelling, and a deep rabbit hole for players to fall into.
In Precognition, you'll play as Diana, who discovers she can see the future after receiving an experimental brain implant. As players explore these visions, they'll commit some to Diana's memory based on choices they make. In turn, they will alter the course of the story, which is being co-developed with Cronenberg.
All three of Barlow's games to date have earned widespread acclaim, so suffice it to say this is a big get for Kinetic.
Precognition is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2028.
Precognition on Steam
Aether Wizard Life
Developed by Vonder Games
Fans of cozy games such as Spiritfarer and Stardew Valley will want to keep an eye on Aether Wizard Life from Vonder Games. In it, you'll create your own mage and live out your life in a customizable castle that resembles Spiritfarer's boat-building tools very closely. You can tend to animals, cook meals, grow crops, and work jobs around different towns.
All the while, you'll be exploring a story with a touch of darkness to it, as a secret organization is endangering the lives of mages all over, and you'll need to get to the bottom of the situation.
Aether will feature romanceable characters, a wide variety of activities to perform outside of story missions, and 30+ skills to learn and master.
As someone who loves Spiritfarer so much that I got a tattoo commemorating it, I'm really looking forward to this one. While the home-building tools are familiar, a lot else stands apart, so it's an enticing combination of what I've seen before next to new experiences.
Aether Wizard Life is due out in Fall 2028 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2.
Aether Wizard Life on Steam
Shellbound
Developed by Fake Lobster
I have a Hollow Knight-obsessed son at home, so I can't wait to show him Shellbound. This metroidvania resembles the greats like Hollow Knight and Ori and the Blind Forest at first glance, but it adds a wrinkle that, to my knowledge, no game in the genre has had before.
The world of Shellbound exists on the back of a godlike snail, with the creature's organs serving as the explorable map. But the team at Fake Lobster told me they wanted to make a metroidvania that gets away from some of the genre's normally foundational characteristics, such as backtracking and gated progress.
Using an in-game mechanic called parasitizing, you can absorb the abilities of flora and fauna around you, allowing you to access pretty much any area whenever you want, provided you are willing to adopt the consequences that come with parasitizing.
As you kill more enemies to parasitize them, their class may grow stronger, so by seeking to "break" the world design, which the game fully welcomes, you'll also be giving yourself more of a challenge. It sounds like a speedrunner's dream. Giving players the chance to break progression is a fascinating shift in the metroidvania formula that could help shake up the whole genre.
Shellbound is set to arrive in Summer 2028 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2.
Shellbound on Steam
Contact Protocol
Developed by Cold Zephyr Games
This one was making me sweat. Cold Zephyr's Contact Protocol is like Papers, Please in space. You play as the captain of a starship interacting with others on the proverbial space superhighway. Some are corporate spies, others are smugglers, others may be totally innocent. What's universal is a sense of distrust.
Contact Protocol exists in a world of fake news and disinformation. It's a paranoia-inducing experience in which no one seems to trust each other, and you'll often need to talk other ships down from blowing you up just because they don't like how you answered one of their questions. You can destroy ships that prove to be threats, but you can also just annihilate anyone, provided you're willing to live with the fallout.
The demo I saw was extremely tense and made me feel like the team is well on the right track, complete with an edgy art style that matches its seedy world.
Contact Protocol is launching on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 in Spring 2027.
Contact Protocol on Steam
Crescent County
Developed by Electric Saint
Last but not least in my preview presentation of Kinetic's debut publishing slate was Crescent County, a game that straps motors to witches' broomsticks and sets players off in search of flow-state exploration around a vibrant world.
Recently moving to a new town, players take on the role of Lu as she navigates the crescent-shaped island of Mor aboard her motorbroom, delivering packages by day and racing when the sun goes down. The gorgeous world is inspired by the films Kiki's Delivery Service and Akira, in naturally different but similarly apparent ways.
The gameplay demo I was shown had a beautiful look to it, enhanced by an energetic soundtrack with a punk edge. Putting it aptly and succinctly, the team at Electric Saint describes the game as being about "kissing, drifting, and being a mess in your 20s."
Crescent County debuts in Summer 2027 on--you guessed it--PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2.
Crescent County on Steam
This five-pack of games defines Kinetic's first foray into publishing. Check out their individual Steam pages to see more on each of them.
Title: The Rumored New James Bond Could Be An Actor From Battlefield 1
Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 19:29:51 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-rumored-new-james-bond-could-be-an-actor-from-battlefield-1/
Rumors continue to swirl about who may play the British super-spy James Bond in the next movie. The latest name in the mix is Jack Lowden, the 36-year-old known in the video game world for playing T.E. Lawrence AKA Lawrence of Arabia in Battlefield 1.
TV presenter Richard Osman said on his podcast, The Rest Is Entertainment, that he heard from "someone" that Lowden is being considered for the role. He said his source told him "for definite" that Lowden is in the mix, though nothing is confirmed at this stage.
Jack Lowden played T.E. Lawrence in Battlefield 1.
Lowden's one and only video game credit is Battlefield 1. On TV, he's known for playing River on Slow Horses and will appear as Mr. Darcy in Netflix's upcoming Pride and Prejudice TV show. Lowden also played Forodwaith Sauron in an episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. In film, Lowden appeared in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk and voiced Gunnar in this year's Rogue Trooper movie.
In May this year, Bond movie production company Amazon MGM Studios said the search for the next James Bond actor was underway and that the film studio would not comment on the casting process.
Lowden is Scottish, and he would become just the second Scottish person to play James Bond, following Sean Connery. The character James Bond from the Ian Fleming book series is also Scottish.
Other actors said to be in the running to play James Bond include Callum Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jacob Elordi, Theo James, Tom Francis, and Josh O'Connor, among others.
Fans have been waiting a long time for the next James Bond movie, as the latest entry, No Time To Die, was released in 2021. However, it was expected to release much sooner, but had three delays due in part to COVID.
Daniel Craig played James Bond in five 007 films, and wrapped up his run with No Time To Die. Amazon MGM Studios bought the franchise and reportedly paid a lot of money to take back creative control from the longtime series stewards Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
The new James Bond movie will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker known for the Dune franchise. He's also directed the movies Prisoners, Sicario, Blade Runner 2049, and Arrival.
Title: New Bully-Like Agefield High Isn’t Having The Best First Day Of School
Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 19:21:57 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-bully-like-agefield-high-isnt-having-the-best-first-day-of-school/
After a story trailer got Bully fans excited for the spiritual successor Agefield High: Rock The School last year, the game has officially released on PC. Unfortunately, first impressions from players aren't so kind, so you may want to temper your expectations that it could match the high bar Rockstar set so long ago.
Set in the early 2000s and inspired by the humor of movies like American Pie, Agefield High's developers warn on the Steam page that this humor isn't for everyone. However, the complaints from players seem to be more with how the game runs on a basic level. Numerous Steam reviews mention the characters' very stiff animations, crashing issues, sluggish and imprecise combat, and lag, even when on very low PC settings.
The last thing you see before you die
Our own Jean-Luc Seipke has spent some time with Agefield High, as well, and they echo many of these same complaints, as well as the writing, so those who just want to experience the story might not have a great time either. At the very least, however, there isn't AI-generated art in it.
It appears developer/publisher Refugium Games may have acknowledged these rough edges in a Steam post. Written in-character as Principal Carpenter, it says, "Please be gentle with the walls. The paint is still fresh."
Perhaps everything will work more as expected once that paint has dried, but for now, it sounds like you'd have a better time just tracking down a used copy of Bully and not spending nearly $30 for Agefield High.
Title: Helldivers 2 NPCs Will Hug You Back Now, Even When No One Else Will
Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 19:12:44 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/helldivers-2-npcs-will-hug-you-back-now-even-when-no-one-else-will/
Helldivers 2's massive 7.0 update, Devoid of Liberty, is live now, and it brings some huge changes to the game's loveable SEAF soldiers.
These NPCs are basically the equivalent of UNSC marines in Halo--fun to have around, but not particularly good at their job. Previously in Helldivers 2, SEAF soldiers could be recruited to follow players around and occasionally shoot at enemies, but were mostly good at being accidentally (or maybe not?) blown to bits by friendly fire.
In the Devoid of Liberty update, the SEAF soldiers can now appear as a planet modifier, joining Helldivers in their battles. Dropships will routinely deliver SEAF soldiers into the fray, and they are more equipped for battle than ever before. Each SEAF squad will have a squad leader, a rifleman, a heavy weapon-wielding specialist, and a medic capable of stimming wounded Helldivers.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLTltwbS4KY
Better yet, SEAF soldiers will now interact with players in new ways. They're now capable of interacting with emotes, meaning they can shake hands, play rock, paper, scissors, or even give a hug to a Helldiver in need.
The SEAF changes are just one piece of the latest Helldivers 2 update. Devoid of Liberty additionally adds two new terrifying Illuminate enemy types. One, the Wretch, looks to have been ripped straight out of EA's Dead Space franchise, with developer Arrowhead Studios advising players to aim for its limbs in order to stop its relentless pursuit. Another new enemy, the Crusher, is a walking giant capable of regenerating rapidly, meaning Helldivers will need to focus their fire and keep up the pressure in order to keep them down.
On the quality-of-life front, the update massively increased Helldivers 2's level cap (from 150 to 300, with new ranks and rewards to earn). There's also plenty of balance changes, including making stims more responsive, faster recovery time after a heavy landing, and buffs to short magazines and secondary weapons. To coincide with new Void-based horrors, the game's long-awaited Warhammer 40K crossover Warbond is also available now. You can find the full Helldivers 2 Devoid of Liberty patch notes below.
For those who haven't yet made the call to defend Super Earth and spread Managed Democracy, Helldivers 2 is one of this month's free PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium games.
Helldivers 2 Devoid Of Liberty Update Patch Notes
New Illuminate Enemies
A new biome full of fresh horrors awaits, the void warps everything it touches and your foes have taken new hideous forms.
The Crusher is on a deathmarch capable of regenerating while taking heavy damage and needs to be worn down quickly and consistently without a moment of pause.
The Wretch is a relentless and nimble enemy that requires quick trigger fingers and focused aim as they are able to dodge and leap at the player while advancing to quickly dismantle its weapons along with their will to live.
SEAF Support
SEAF have entered the battle!
Super Earth Armed Forces (SEAF) can now appear as a planet modifier, joining you in battle in your missions and enhancing your combat capabilities with a range of new tools (Stim pistols, Heavy Machine guns and more)
The SEAF take to the stars. Super Earth High Command has mandated the SEAF be deployed directly to the frontlines of the Galactic Campaign for Democracy. Helldivers will be able to be supported by friendly SEAF NPC troops, with new and improved behavior, weaponry and updated visuals
Level Cap Increased
We've expanded the Helldiver rank system beyond Level 150, adding 15 new ranks and titles that carry Helldivers all the way up to Level 300. Each new rank comes with its own unique title and icon to recognize the most dedicated defenders of Managed Democracy. Super Earth thanks you for your continued service, the fight never ends, and neither does your potential.
Expanded Emote Slots
Helldivers, you now have twice as many ways to express yourself on the battlefield! The emote wheel capacity has been raised from 4 to 8 emotes.

Assisted Reload Rework
Problem we want to solve:
The original intent was a tactical action that needed collaboration with a designated reloader that carries the backpack
We have reevaluated how this works and with how the game has evolved since launch we got to the conclusion that the assisted reload action require too much coordination which lead to it rarely happening
Intent and expectation with the change:
We want to reduce the complexity with assisted reloading to promote using it more.
Allow players to keep their backpack and reload whenever you need, while also allows a teammate to easily help you if the opportunity arises.
The change we made:
Helldivers can now assist reload as long as one of the wielder and/or reloader of the weapon has the correct backpack
Balancing
Updated icons for backpack weapons and expendable weapons
Problem we want to solve:
Find a specific weapon in the loadout can be hard to do with all the new weapons added to the arsenal
It can be hard to know if a support weapon needs a backpack or can not be reloaded when only looking at the icon.
Intent and expectation with the change:
We want to make it easier to find specific weapons and to plan your loadout.
It should be easier to know when a weapon needs a backpack or can not be reloaded when only looking at the icon.
The change we made:
Stratagem Weapons that require a backpack now have a backpack icon included on their loadout icons
Stratagem Weapons that can not be reloaded now have a drop weapon icon included on their loadout icons .
Decreased heavy landing duration
Problem we want to solve:
The original intent was to make the heavy landing to feel like you recovered from a high fall.
The player lost control for a long time when landing on the feet from a higher fall.
Intent and expectation with the change:
We wanted to make it smoother to recover from the heavy landing state and not remove the control for too long.
While still make it feel like a heavy landing recovery
The change we made:
Decreased the duration for the heavy landing animation with around 40%
Stim action input smoothing
Problem we want to solve:
Players can experience dead input when trying to stim when the stim action was not allowed.
Intent and expectation with the change:
We want to lessen the feeling of dead input when using the stim action.
The change we made:
We changed so the stim input is remembered for a short duration when the action is not allowed and will be executed if the stim action is allowed within that duration.
This works similar to how the reload input action changes from the last patch.
Ammo re-balance for Short magazines attachments and Secondaries
Problem we want to solve:
The benefits of the short magazines are too few compared to drum magazines.
The benefits of some of the anti personnel side arms do not have enough benefits compared to other side arm options.
Intent and expectation with the change:
Give more benefits to short magazines to make the items more useful compared to drum magazines for the same weapon.
Give more benefits to some of the lesser used anti personnel side arms to make the items more useful
The change we made:
Short magazines got more max spare and starting magazines.
Some of the anti personnel sidearms got more max spare and starting magazines.

Stratagems
Eagle Napalm Airstrike
Problem we want to solve:
The Eagle napalm did not feel as effective compared to other Eagle stratagems and napalm stratagems
Intent and expectation with the change:
Create a larger area of effect for the napalms fire
Make it more effective compared to other napalm stratagems
The change we made:
Increased explosion radius 8 to 10m
More spread out bomb pattern to cover a larger area
MD-17 Anti-Tank Mines
Problem we want to solve:
The explosion of the mines looks like they can destroy larger things
Intent and expectation with the change:
The effect of the explosion match should match the visuals better
Make the mines work in more situations like destroying colony walls and bug holes from the outside
The change we made:
Increased Demolition strength from 30 to 40
Enemies
Terminids
Hunters
Problem we want to solve:
Hunters and their variants were unable to attack FRVs consistently
They could only use their tongue to attack, and struggle to find a proper position to launch it
Intent and expectation with the change:
When Helldivers enter a FRV, Hunters should be able to attack the vehicle more naturally
The change we made:
We allowed one melee attack to be correctly triggered against FRVs
Illuminate
Veracitor
Problem we want to solve:
When the Helldiver got attacked by a Veracitor while holding a ballistic shield it could created clipping issue where the arm of the Veracitor could merge with the body of the Helldiver and sometime resulting in sending the Helldiver at high speed in the air
Intent and expectation with the change:
Fighting an exomech with a ballistic shield still protects against damage, but Helldivers will now ragdoll when blocking an attack
Helldivers won’t be sent to low orbit anymore after blocking an attack with ballistic shield.
Ballistic shield will break after around 15 direct hits
The change we made:
Increased Exomech melee’s force strength from 25 to 40
Conformed Exomech melee’s attack armor penetration to all correctly be Anti tank

Title: Amazon Will Soon Be Out Of The MMO Business Entirely
Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 18:13:40 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/amazon-will-soon-be-out-of-the-mmo-business-entirely/
Amazon Game Studios looks to be getting out of the MMO business entirely, handing Western operations of Throne and Liberty and Lost Ark back to their respective developers.
In two blog posts, Amazon Game Studios outlined its plans to transition both games to their South Korean creators in the coming months. For Throne and Liberty, that transition will happen in Q4 2026 as NC (formerly NCSoft) takes over, while Lost Ark's transition will happen in early 2027 and see Smilegate fully take the reins.
While Amazon didn't develop the two games directly, it did publish both titles and handled live-service operations and customer support in the West. Both free-to-play games found success at launch (Lost Ark in particular saw huge numbers on Steam), but have seen player counts dwindle over time.
It doesn't sound like much will change in the near term. Both games will likely experience some downtime as Amazon hands over the keys, but the two games will each continue to operate in the West. Most player data and character progress made in the two games will also carry forward. In the case of Throne and Liberty, cross-progression will no longer work between Steam and consoles after the transition.
For those who don't want to hand over all of their data, there will be an option to opt out of the transition. Doing so naturally means characters, items, and other progress won't be transferred, and players will essentially need to start again from scratch. For everyone else, the data transfer will essentially be seamless, with no action needed on the part of players aside from needing to accept a new terms of service upon logging in for the first time.
Amazon just a few years ago looked to be establishing itself as a major player in the MMO space. It released its own MMO, New World, in 2021 to huge initial numbers on Steam, even if it didn't hold on to that momentum for long. It then followed up that success in 2022 by publishing and operating Lost Ark in the West, with Throne and Liberty following a similar playbook in 2024. There were also plans for Amazon to publish the anime MMO Blue Protocol, though the game's Western release was instead canceled entirely.
Flash forward to now and the house of Bezos has completely washed its hands of the genre. Amazon announced earlier this year that New World's servers will go offline in early 2027, following a console release in 2024 and a string of well-received updates that had players optimistic for the future prior to the shutdown announcement. The creators of New World were also working on a Lord of the Rings MMO, only for that to be reportedly canceled amidst layoffs at Amazon Game Studios.

Title: Best in Class: Stream PC Games and Study on the Same Laptop With GeForce NOW
Date: Thu, 30 Jul 2026 13:00:20 +0000
Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-back-to-school-2026/
Back to school means balancing assignments, deadlines and downtime. GeForce NOW makes it easy to have it all.
With cloud gaming, everyday laptops used for class can also become GeForce RTX-powered gaming setups.
When it’s time to switch from studying to gaming, members can jump into Halo: Campaign Evolved, as GeForce NOW is bringing one of the gaming world’s most celebrated titles to nearly any device through the cloud, alongside eight total games joining the GeForce NOW library this week.
From A+ to AAA Gaming
This back-to-school season, the easiest upgrade isn’t replacing laptops in backpacks. It’s unlocking even more from these same laptops, from creating to gaming.
With a GeForce NOW membership, Chromebooks, Macs and Surface devices can become GeForce RTX-powered gaming PCs in the cloud. The GeForce NOW library features thousands of supported PC games, letting members stream titles they already own from digital stores like Steam, Xbox PC Game Pass and Epic Games Store in just a few clicks.
The cloud keeps games up to date and ready to play, making it easy to jump into a match between classes, after homework or whenever there’s free time. Time spent waiting on downloads, patches and installs becomes time spent in game instead.
The Ultimate membership enables best-in-class experiences by delivering 5080-class performance in the cloud with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies for responsive, visually rich gameplay — all on the hardware gamers already own.
A creator known as “Menguiny” recently put this to the test after picking up a MacBook Neo. GeForce NOW turned the laptop — usually the creator’s go-to for editing videos and everyday work — into a top-notch gaming machine, too.
Another creator, “TechWithSeong” highlighted that same versatility GeForce NOW offers. Rather than juggling separate devices for work and gaming, he used GeForce NOW Ultimate to stream supported PC games across the devices he already owns — from a MacBook used for editing to gaming on the go with handheld devices.
Gamers can start with a day pass and experience all the premium benefits without a monthly commitment. Plus, the cost of a day pass can be applied toward a first membership purchase — it’s like earning a little extra credit along the way.
Everyone, at Their Stations
Needlers never looked so sharp.
Experience the Master Chief’s iconic journey on GeForce NOW in Halo: Campaign Evolved — a modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign — rebuilt with high-definition visuals, updated cinematics and refined gameplay. Whether discovering Halo for the first time or returning after 25 years to finish the fight, it’s as the Master Chief says: “We’re just getting started.”
Crash-land on the mysterious ringworld alongside Cortana and uncover great secrets while battling overwhelming Covenant forces. Fight through the rebuilt campaign, then continue the adventure with three brand-new missions featuring the Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. Expanded weapons, iconic vehicles, hijackable Wraith tanks and optional Skull modifiers offer even more ways to play.
Suit up across PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs and more with GeForce NOW Ultimate, powered by GeForce RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud. Experience Halo with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies delivering higher frame rates and ultralow latency that keep every firefight feeling responsive and worthy of a Spartan.
From solo gaming to online co-op modes, GeForce NOW cloud saves let members log in and pick up exactly where they left off across supported devices — no lengthy downloads, extra storage space or expensive hardware upgrades required. The only thing left to carry is the mission.

There’s even more to explore with three new games joining the GeForce NOW library this week.
Take It to the Next Level in Toronto
The forecast is looking cloudy in Canada.
A new GeForce RTX 5080-powered GeForce NOW server is coming to Toronto, expanding service in the region and bringing dedicated cloud gaming performance closer to local members. The new server will roll out within days, giving more players access to top-tier cloud gaming across Canada.

Title: Kinetic Publishing Showcase recap: 5 new indie games coming to PS5
Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 19:30:04 +0000
Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/12/kinetic-publishing-showcase-recap-5-new-indie-games-coming-to-ps5/
You may have heard of Kinetic Games through our horror title, Phasmophobia. It’s sold over 27 million copies, and thanks to this success, in January of this year we established our very own publishing label, Kinetic Publishing. Our aim at Kinetic Publishing is to support and empower indie devs to create incredible games, giving them the level of support that our founder, Daniel Knight, would have benefitted from when he was first creating Phasmophobia.
Today we debuted our Kinetic Publishing showcase, where we got to reveal the first five games we’ll be publishing throughout 2027 and 2028. These dev teams all have unique, inspiring stories and just as equally exciting games. From a true sci-fi horror to a witch-tech delivery adventure, and everything in between, we’ve curated a selection of games we hope players are going to love, and of course, they will all be available on PlayStation 5.
Contact Protocol
Can you make the right decisions under pressure? That’s the question the team behind Contact Protocol wants the answer to. In this sci-fi starship job simulator, you are tasked with the scourge that is corporate admin as you assess the intentions of incoming ships on the Pale Horse’s voyage to Jupiter’s largest moon. Compare incoming information against company records and do your best to determine whether ships are friend or foe. But make the wrong decision and all it takes is one torpedo to guarantee your safety – while sending the other crew to their death in the vacuum of space.

In Contact Protocol, players’ cognitive load is gradually ramped up while being offered near-impossible decisions, and we found the combination of this stressful gameplay combined with allocated downtime and the incredible yet somewhat unsettling art style, to be something really special. It’s high stakes, it’s intense, but it’ll leave you coming back for more, as players will soon find out when Contact Protocol launches on PlayStation 5 in Spring 2027.
Crescent County
Crescent County is a game that sings with sunset-soaked, dreamy graphics from the mind of creative director and illustrator, Anna Hollinrake. Based on her own lived experience moving to the Isle of Wight, players will discover what it means to find home on this magical crescent isle. From crunchy, flow-state motorbroom driving, to messy, gossip-fuelled local drama and flirty relationships, Crescent County aims to offer the experience of Kiki’s Delivery Service meets the bikes of Akira set on a rural, witch-tech island.

We couldn’t deny how much we loved the gorgeous, painterly world of Crescent County, a down-to-earth passion project that oozes good vibes. Celebrating queerness, found-family and community in a way we couldn’t ignore, get ready to lose yourself in the beauty of Crescent County when it comes to PlayStation 5 in Summer 2027.
Shellbound
Shellbound has taken the best bits of a metroidvania and set them on a ‘big ass snail’. Giving real meaning to the phrase ‘living world’, players take on the role of a parasite exploring an environment where organs are labyrinths and the snail’s very biology can reshape the paths available to them. The combination of combat and platforming provides the much-loved metroidvania challenge, proving simple to learn but satisfyingly difficult to master.

But Shellbound is pushing the limits of the genre, giving players parasitic powers that allow them to take control of enemies and NPCs and each creature offering unique movement, combat, and traversal skills. Harnessing these abilities is the key to reaching hidden areas, unlocking new routes, and defeating powerful bosses – which players will learn when Shellbound launches on PlayStation 5 in Summer 2028.
Aether Wizard Life
The creativity and ambition of the team at Vonder Games is truly something to behold, as they combine town-building, platforming and exploration with action-RPG combat, farming, and dating in Aether Wizard Life. Players take on the role of an apprentice mage in the haunted town of Starfall, and must uncover the secrets of mysterious wizard kidnappings. Along the way, you are free to choose what tasks to take on each day, whether that’s growing magical crops, caring for exotic creatures, venturing into deep and twisting dungeons to fight monsters, or talking with the townsfolk to discover new side quests and problems to solve.

From the Ghibli-inspired art style, to the story behind the town’s mystery taking inspiration from the fascinating, real history of witches – we were captivated by the team’s attention to detail in Aether Wizard Life. This new cozy wizard life sim launches on Playstation 5 in Autumn 2028.
Precognition
We are beyond excited to announce that we will be partnering with Half Mermaid Productions on their newest game, Precognition. Originally teased under the name ‘Project C’, Precognition is a sci-fi horror being created by Immortality and Her Story creator Sam Barlow in collaboration with acclaimed horror director Brandon Cronenberg. At Kinetic, we’ve played (and gotten hooked on) Sam’s previous FMS games like Immortality and Her Story, and jumped at the chance to work with such a talented team.
Of course, Kinetic is best known for its own horror title, so we’re very happy to have an equally thrilling game in our publishing lineup. And Precognition aims to go one step further than Sam’s previous games, giving players a real sense of agency and freedom in choosing where the story goes. Be sure to interrogate the smallest of details, and get ready to face the consequences that await when you meddle with the flow of time, when Precognition launches on PlayStation 5 in Spring 2028.

We have watched the Void stretch across the galaxy for too long. The threat posed to our Liberty is too great and we can no longer stand by as the Illuminate gain ground.
Helldivers, you are needed on the battlefield of a new frontier–one more wild and uncertain than any we have faced prior. We must venture into their haunted abyss, the Void, and liberate it back into Super Earth’s control.Today’s Devoid of Liberty release also coincides with Helldivers 2 entering the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. Starting today, Helldivers 2 will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members.
Journey to the Void

Complete new missions
You will be given new objectives to conquer–destroy Illuminate spires and gateways, complete data reconnaissance, and infiltrate Illuminate structures with your team.
New secondary objectives will also become available, from eradicating Void mutations to extracting materials for research, as well as the opportunity to open a secondary extraction zone on the map to potentially evacuate your squad faster.
Exterminate new threats
As you fight your way toward the Void, you’ll encounter new, hideously mutated organisms. We have received intelligence reports that indicate these metamorphosed creatures are emerging from the heart of the Void–they are ghoulish diversions wrought into existence by the Illuminate scourge to threaten our freedom.

Title: (For Southeast Asia) First look at Marvel’s Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 Console bundle and accessories
Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 02:56:45 +0000

Last month, the team at Insomniac Games and Marvel Games shared lots of new details and reveals at San Diego Comic-Con for Marvel’s Wolverine. Today, we’re giving a first look at the PS5 Digital Edition – Marvel’s Wolverine Battle Yellow Limited Edition Bundle, which features a PS5 Digital Edition that captures the raw ferocity of Wolverine alongside a matching DualSense wireless controller and a game code for Marvel’s Wolverine.

Inspired by Insomniac’s Battle Reborn suit and claws, the PS5 Digital Edition – Marvel’s Wolverine Battle Yellow Limited Edition Bundle will be available globally and channels Logan’s unmistakable intensity through a bold yellow finish. The design brings in Wolverine’s exposed claw marks and lets players peek under the hood of the PS5 Digital Edition and see what’s underneath. The DualSense wireless controller also features furious slashes inspired by his famous claws, giving players a striking way to bring the game into the palm of their hands.
The DualSense Wireless Controller – Marvel’s Wolverine Battle Yellow Limited Edition will also be available for standalone purchase globally.
It was important for us to capture the primal energy of Wolverine in this new look for the PS5 console, and it has been fantastic collaborating with Insomniac Games and Marvel Games on the design. We worked alongside Jock, the Scottish graphic artist who contributed to the key art for Marvel’s Wolverine and whose work across comics helped inspire the bold, graphic tone of this limited edition design:
“I wanted to show Wolverine at his fiercest for Marvel’s Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 Console bundle and accessories. I still draw all my artwork traditionally, so the opportunity to marry cutting-edge hardware with the energy and looseness of hand-drawn ink is incredibly exciting. I’m stunned by how well the console and accessories captured the raw energy of the drawing, bringing Wolverine to life in a completely unique way. ”
– Jock, Graphic Artist
“His [Jock] illustrative works have the energy and dynamics needed to capture the kinetic and violent nature of our hero. One whose primary interaction with the world is with unbreakable Adamantium claws. Jock’s illustrations are grounded and raw and perfectly personify Wolverine.”
– Marcus Smith, Insomniac Games

Title: Immortality developer Sam Barlow reveals Precognition, a sci-fi horror collaboration with Brandon Cronenberg about "really terrible things that are just around the corner"

Immortality and Her Story developer Sam Barlow has announced Precognition, a new sci-fi horror game in development at Half Mermaid Productions, which features writing from Antiviral and Infinity Pool director Brandon Cronenberg. That's Brandon, not David, yes, but still, having any kind of Cronenberg in your credits is a win, right? When's the last time you made a game with a Cronenberg?
Besides, I thought Infinity Pool was good fun. And I quite like the sound of Precognition, which stars a woman with brain implants who can choose between visions to weave a range of possible dark futures. It began life as a slightly random idea for a Metroid game, apparently. Here's a trailer.

Ocean survival sim Subnautica 2 now has an experimental beta branch on Steam, allowing the intrepid PC owner to test out updates before they're officially live. If there's one thing Subnautica 2's toothy underwater ecosystem has taught us, it's the value of taking risks. Just be aware that any savegames you create in the experimental branch will be specific to that version of the game - you won't be able to carry progress back to the main release.

Title: The Steam Frame needs to be more than a cool device if Valve want to reshape the VR market
Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 16:44:06 +0000
Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/the-steam-frame-needs-to-be-more-than-a-cool-device-if-valve-want-to-reshape-the-vr-market
Hi! I'm Rick Lane, and you might remember me from such columns as Reality Bytes, RPS' erstwhile monthly goggle at the world of virtual reality. I've spent the last couple of years trapped between the second and third dimensions, my flattened body doomed to forever spin to face the camera. But RPS has whipped out its bicycle pump and popped me back into stereoscopic 3D, so I can seek revenge tell you all about the state of VR in 2026.
And boy, what a state! The headlines make for grim reading. VR headset shipments are in decline. Notable VR studios are either laying people off or being shut down outright. And VR's hitherto biggest champion is going all Distracted Boyfriend, ogling passing market trends in its ethically dubious smart glasses.
The all-in-one Steam Frame headset is on the way - very soon, if rumours are to be believed - but in short, things don't look great. Then again, things don't look great anywhere in the games industry, so why should VR, gaming's most niche market, be any different? To truly understand the state of the VR scene, we need to try to separate the generally bad from the specifically bad. When we do that, it becomes clear that VR broadly isn't faring any worse than the industry at large, and in some areas at least, is healthier than you might expect.
