Johnson. As outlined by the Halo Support X account, a patch coming sometime next week will fix a few pain points for players of Halo Studios' remake. The update should make graphics purists happy, as it will add the ability to disable the game's very noticeable film grain and chromatic aberration. The patch will also include "additional stability improvements across multiple platforms." On the gameplay front, Jackals are receiving some changes so that they can be staggered more reliably when targeting their hands and feet, as has always been the case in Halo. Sgt Johnson is being updated so that he no longer blocks mission progress. This sounds like it will mostly affect the three new prequel missions included as part of the remake, where Johnson occasionally needs to hack open doors before Master Chief can proceed. Halo Studios states there will be more details in the full patch notes when the update is released. It's also worth noting that any mid-mission saved progress will be lost upon downloading the new update, though unlocked missions and rally points will remain. The launch of Halo: Campaign Evolved may not have gone as well as Halo Studios would have liked, with reports indicating the game is off to a slow start on PlayStation 5 and has sold a combined total of 1.2 million copies across all platforms so far.  According to one analyst, Halo: Campaign Evolved's greatest competition, particularly on PC, might be Halo itself. The franchise's compilation package, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, released over a decade ago and contains almost the entirety of the Halo franchise, including online multiplayer, and can be bought for $40 at the high end or much cheaper when on sale. When compared to Halo: Campaign Evolved, which only features the first game's campaign, no multiplayer, and retails for $50, it's not hard to see why some players decided this was a fight that didn't need finishing.  Given the remake's performance, it's unclear what is coming next for the franchise, though Halo: Campaign Evolved does seemingly tease a Halo 2 remake.

Solo developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone struck gold when he took the formula established by games like Harvest Moon and improved on just about every facet, weaving charming visuals and music with a rewarding gameplay loop that sees players restore a rundown farm--and town--to its former glory. Since then, many similar games have strived to achieve the same level of ubiquity to varying degrees of success, but 10 years of improvements and updates on an already stellar Stardew experience means most players haven’t had a reason to leave Pelican Town behind. However, one of the latest challengers to the crop collecting crown, Fields of Mistria, feels primed to change everything. After two years in early access, NPC Studio's debut title has officially entered 1.0 and is already garnering critical acclaim. And though there's plenty to love about about Fields of Mistria, its willingness to lean into and remedy some of Stardew Valley’s most glaring weaknesses--weaknesses like its story, surface-level relationships, dearth of diversity, and lack of a world that feels truly connected--make it one of the first farming sims that feels like a true contender against Stardew Valley. A look at a lushly decorated farm in Fields of Mistria. Fields of Mistria has a lot of the gameplay elements invented by Harvest Moon and perfected by Stardew Valley. You move into an abandoned farm and introduce yourself to the two dozen or so characters, many of whom you can romance; You go through four 28-day seasons and attend events and give gifts; You enter the mines to collect ore and fight monsters; And, naturally, you farm. Besides the immediate hit of anime-inspired visuals--the town leader’s pastel-colored hair and bevy of glittery accessories look more like Sailor Moon than Harvest Moon--it might seem like little more than another copycat. The next day, a villager commented on just how bewildering that action was. A few days later, I responded to a simple quest to deliver some copper ore to the town's cranky blacksmith. A few hours after turning the materials in to him, I ran into his older brother, who thanked me. In the city square, NPCs engage in conversations amongst themselves that you can listen in on, while a weekly game of D&D at the inn gives you a look at various group dynamics.  Fields of Mistria allows this web of relationships to be fully explored in a way Stardew never achieved. I know that Penny likes to hang out with Maru, but I’ve never seen her talk to Haley, or Pierre, or the Wizard. In contrast, the world in Fields of Mistria feels more alive. It’s more like a town where everyone knows each other, and not one where everyone just knows you. Romance is one of Stardew’s biggest weaknesses. While the cutscenes surrounding each of the game's marriage candidates are cute and memorable, actual marriage is a bit anticlimactic. Your spouse gets their own room, and sometimes they give you coffee or water your crops (which is usually useless as sprinklers have taken over by that point in the game), but that's it.  Mistria’s romances benefit from how connected the world feels, but they take leaps and bounds over Stardew's by allowing you to go on dates with your paramour. It’s not just a little cutscene to raise your heart level; it’s a deep mechanic that requires the player to find the right items to get inspiration for a date, with each successful outing offering a cute (or steamy) picture of your partner as well. Marriage and children are new to the 1.0 release, and while children are just as basic as Stardew at the moment, marriage carries forward the same narrative depth as dating. Wedding dates can be chosen, and details planned with your partner. The wedding itself is a long, interactive cutscene as opposed to the 10-second affair in Stardew.  Marrying March in Fields of Mistria. Mistria's quests also build on each other in a more narratively compelling way than Stardew Valley's plot. In Stardew Valley, the closest thing to an overarching story is told through completing the Community Center (or siding with Joja Mart, if you’re evil), which gradually introduces improvements to Pelican Town. This is done by donating the various things you harvest, fish, forage, and mine to the center, after which you're greeted by a short cutscene and, occasionally, some one-off dialogue from the townsfolk. Stardew's main plotline exists in the background, and is merely meant to guide you through your first couple of years in the Valley.  In Fields of Mistria, going deeper into the mines and improving the town both feature deep questlines with major consequences, rewards, and impacts on the world at large. There is a storyline--storylines, even!--to complete as you develop relationships with the townspeople, upgrade your gear, and expand your farm. Reaching the bottom of the mines, for instance, will unlock special (and marriageable) characters that widen the myth and magic of Mistria. Another questline unlocks new buildings and vendors, and improving the town level high enough leads to requests from King Kelinien himself. I can’t go into details without spoiling some big surprises, but the fact that there’s even something to spoil is a step forward. What most sets these two apart, however, is that Stardew Valley is a farming game with RPG elements while Mistria feels like an RPG game with farming elements, and it's all the better for it. Even Field of Mistria’s farming--though not much different from what we’ve come to expect from farming sims--features RPG elements, allowing players to unlock perks from a decently sized skill tree. Whereas Stardew’s longevity owes a lot to the strength of its farming mechanics, Mistra's focus on roleplaying--on creating a stronger story and more vibrant interactions between NPCs--sets it apart by excelling in areas that Stardew doesn’t. Caldarus mentions feeling increased magic in Mistria. Do I think that Fields of Mistria is better than Stardew Valley in every conceivable way? No, but it’s still early in its roadmap. Stardew has shown how much can be added to a game over the years, both with official post-launch expansions and numerous fan-made mods. If Mistria gets updates for half as long as Stardew has, it’ll be in great shape. I'd argue Mistria still has a lot that can be learned from Stardew, too. For example, I think its narrative and character relationships could be improved even further by introducing conflict, which Stardew offers in spades. And even though Stardew Valley doesn't have a strong story, some of the topics it covers in its Heart Events are much more mature, dark, and nuanced than its colorful, cutesy pixel art suggests. Plus, some people just don't like you upon first meeting, whereas in Mistria, pretty much everyone--minus surly blacksmith March--loves you from the start. While I think some of the Pelican Town residents are a little too rude at the beginning (looking at you, Haley), I think Mistria needs to add complexity to its characters to make them shine beyond just being anime eye candy. Fields of Mistria isn’t a Stardew Valley killer, and it doesn’t have to be. But by dedicating itself to its characters and worldbuilding, it escapes Stardew Valley's massive shadow in a way few farming sims can.

The clothing details include a scarf, a vest with a harness, belts, camouflage pants with stitched patch details, and intricate extras like a metal material necklace, armband, forearm gauntlet, a communication device, and boots with shin guards. Inside the box, you'll find gear like a pickaxe, a rocket launcher with a projectile, a tactical shotgun, and a flare gun, as well as an Orange Flopper for a quick heal, a supply llama, and the victory crown for being the last man standing after a Fortnite match. Preorders aren't open yet, but expect this figure to retail for around $285--the standard price for a Hot Toys figure, depending on various factors. Update: Preorders are live on Sideshow Collectibles, and this figure costs a whopping $390--around the same price as a deluxe edition diecast metal Iron Man from Hot Toys. This isn't the only character from a live-service game that Hot Toys is making a figure of, as last month, the company also revealed its first sixth-scale Marvel Rivals figure. South Korean K-Pop idol turned cryokinetic superhero Luna Snow looks pretty impressive in this format, and if you're interested in adding her to your collection, you can preorder this figure for $280 ahead of its expected release next year. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach sixth-scale figures will also be released soon--following their reveal last year--and you can still grab the intrepid courier Sam Porter Bridges and his nemesis, Higgs, from stores like Sideshow Collectibles.

Now, with just over a month away until its September 15 launch, Insomniac is sharing a deep dive on the game’s story, combat, and exploration thanks to an extensive hands-on session with the game.   Our two-hour session kicked off with the game’s opening mission in the wilds of Telambang, where Wolverine has reunited with Team X to carry out a critical mission infiltrating the facility of anti-mutant industrialist Bolivar Trask. After slicing our way to a daring rescue, we jumped ahead in the game to a bombastic boss fight and a taste of Madripoor’s Lowtown. Between brutal barrages, stealthy scouting, and a range of rage-filled takedowns, we got to cut to the bone of the game’s story, flesh out Wolverine’s allies and foes, and uncover a piece of his buried past.   Taking on Trask  From the game’s opening moments flashing back to a feral, mangy-haired, and memory-wiped Wolverine, every sequence tested the balance between his rage and humanity. The first mission reunites him with Team X, a mutant task force formed by Nathaniel Essex to help protect mutants. Wolverine had stepped away from the group, something that has rankled his teammates, a wry Mystique and ever-savage Sabretooth.   Their mission takes them from the hidden facility of billionaire Bolivar Trask to the seedy backstreets of Madripoor, presenting Wolverine with the grim reality of what mutants in this world are facing. With mutants largely unknown by society, Trask has been spending his billions abducting, studying, and cruelly disposing of mutants with little regard for his victims in a quest to maintain human superiority. As the nefarious reality of the facility’s purpose becomes clearer, the horror Wolverine feels quickly pools into an unbridled rage. That rage drives him forward through throngs of Reaver enemies and a run in with Omega Red to eventually free Essex, who has been held captive by Trask.   Essex is the one who found Wolverine years before in that feral state, and formed Team X to protect mutants and build a world where mutants can be open. Between Essex and Trask, Wolverine is faced with the lengths some will go to protect the future of their kind, and will challenge him to face what kind of person he wants to be in this future.   Sink your claws in  Between storylines and set pieces, my biggest takeaway from my time with Marvel’s Wolverine was that it feels dang good to sink those claws in. Wolverine doesn’t just attack enemies, he catapults himself at them, targeting and launching himself from across the room to stun or barrage. Every combat encounter becomes a furious flurry, where my adrenaline feels directly tied to Wolverine’s increasing rage.  While a simple parry and barrage can get the job done, Wolverine can unlock a number of Special Techniques, skills that can be upgraded and mapped to the directional buttons for an extra flair in a fight. In my playthrough, I could cleave through a group surrounding me with Tornado Spin, or interrupt enemy attacks with Knee Breaker. Players can also unlock Adaptations, which upgrade long-term effects and skills like Logan’s health and rage meter.  That rage will come in handy. Successful combos build up Wolverine’s rage meter, which rises through three Rage Tiers to dramatically alter his fighting style. As Wolverine enters Rage Tier 2, his combos become more powerful and he unlocks Last Stand, which allows him to use his rage to heal his body if fully downed. But things really go over the edge when Wolverine’s meter fills to Rage Tier 3. His attacks become significantly more powerful, while brutal critical strikes become available. His vision seems to close in, his breathing getting louder and more primal as he darts between enemies, slicing and dicing with ease. Those critical strikes can lead to some dangerously fun takedowns, like snatching a member of The Hand’s katana or bow to slam back into them.   Sometimes, Wolverine needs a more methodical approach. He can use his Enhanced Senses to track and takedown enemies more stealthily. Trask also has Ability Inhibitors at his disposal that block Wolverine and his teammates from using their abilities. In these moments, he must work past the pain and fight without healing, focusing on taking enemies down with classic combat moves and destroying the Inhibitors before it’s too late.  It took all the skills I had gathered so far to take on the looming Sentinel Prototype towards the end of my preview. Built by Trask to detect and destroy mutants, this fight took all of Wolverine’s patience and strategy, dodging or parrying the Sentinel’s powerful attacks, while waiting for the perfect moments to strike. This sequence was thrilling both to use Wolverine’s abilities to their fullest potential, and to watch as he worked in tandem with Mystique and Sabretooth. By the time I was busting through the Sentinel’s head victorious, I had a wild grin on my face and felt amped and ready to take on anyone.   More to explore  Luckily after that fight, there was still more to explore. In Madripoor, surrounded by allies new and old, we took a moment of respite in Princess Bar (run by Tyger). Here we got to interact with newly acquired ally Jean Grey, and the mutant teens she has been protecting. Though they are still a mystery to one another, Jean and Wolverine’s connection is immediate. It’s with her that he can admit that his anger sometimes scares him and that he wants to be better.  I enjoyed that Wolverine also makes time here for his teammates Mystique and Sabretooth. Mystique stays focused and on mission during combat, shifting through identities when needed. Here in Princess Bar, she can just be herself, and encourages Wolverine to do the same through a friendly but vulnerable game of Never Have I Ever. Sabretooth spends most of the game’s opening antagonizing Wolverine and calling him a runt, which is fair enough given he stands about as tall as Sabretooth’s navel. But it’s clear their relationship runs deeper, and Sabretooth feels spurned by Wolverine’s original exit from the group.   While exploring the streets of Lowtown, I could take the time to check out some of Wolverine’s other looks and claw types, which ranged from a classic undershirt and jeans outfit to a Weapon X helmeted style. While walking around the Princess Bar, Wolverine’s Enhanced Senses could pick up on conversation or music that could guide him to specific rooms, or trail a teammate’s scent to find where they’ve run off to. Exploring each room sometimes led to a conversation, or finding easter eggs, like Mystique’s wedding pictures, or an IOU written on an ace of spades card from one Remy LeBeau.   Take the time to explore each new location, as Wolverine can discover hidden crates with raw upgrade materials or collectable whisky bottles. Logan can also stumble across Nightmare Doors, which transport him to a dreamlike cabin to take part in a Nightmare Trial. These timed speed trials reimagine different locations from the game into a vertical fever dream, where he can race to the end to unlock a forgotten memory from his past.   Players can sink their claws into Wolverine’s story and tap into his rage when Marvel’s Wolverine launches September 15 on PS5 consoles.

Yes, I know that we've done "Dark Souls in a ball" already this month, but I think this game stands apart. It reminds me a little of Straftat in being a very specific, even obstinate throwback project that's less about nostalgia - less about sheer recreation, and more the feeling that a deserted vein of weirdness has more to give, that there's another future down here somewhere. Consisting of four new legendary lords, each with a distinct retinue, campaign and battle map abilities, it's billed as "the biggest DLC that we’ve ever released in the series 10-year history". It'll accompany another, reportedly gargantuan free update with yet another legendary lord, the Vampire Queen Neferata, together with a rework for the Vampire Counts and Archaon The Everchosen, some new endgame scenarios, and updated victory conditions. There are over a hundred legendary lords in Twarhammer 3 at this point. I feel like the legendariness is at risk of being diluted. Can we organise some kind of spin-off game where every Warhammer army consists entirely of legendary lords?
