Title: Genshin Impact’s New Update Appears To Mock The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Fiasco Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2026 12:23:45 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/genshin-impact-new-update-appears-to-mock-the-lincoln-memorial-reflecting-pool-fiasco/ Video games don't typically reference current affairs, but a new Genshin Impact update seems to be poking fun at the recent Washington Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool debacle. Players have discovered a document in the game, penned by "Grand Duke Diomid Turzov," that goes into detail--and with strange grammatical choices--about a fountain that was "ruined" by shoddy workmanship and vandals. As Turzov explained, he's looking for a few good guards to help ensure that the renovation project continues without any additional complications. "I built a fountain. It is enormous. Without question, it is the most beautiful fountain in all of Snezhnaya," the note reads (via ResetEra). "Maybe even the most beautiful in all of Teyvat. Better than the Fountain of Lucine. Much better. Everyone's talking about it. Then some horrible Tidalga got into the fountain. From Fontaine! They made the water look ugly. Total disaster. Very sad. But I fixed it. I did what no one else was brave enough to do! I drained the fountain and painted the bottom with beautiful, bright paint. After that, it looked incredible. So incredible! Then the idiots on the Snezhnograd Veche ruined everything. There is something very wrong with their brains, by the way. They knew the paint would feed the Tidalga, but did they tell me? No. Of course not." The rest of the note rambles on about "thugs" and "paint-scraping lunatics" sabotaging the fountain and how Turzov plans to hire the "biggest, toughest, strongest warriors" to round up these vandals. It's not too hard to see how Genshin Impact is making fun of the high-profile $14.7 million renovation project for the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which was drained so that the long pool could be coated with a new color inspired by the blue of the US flag. Days after the pool was refilled, the water turned a murky, bright neon green thanks to a massive algae bloom. As scientists discovered, the dark blue paint absorbed far more solar radiation than the original, lighter color did, causing the water to heat up quickly and allowing algae to form. Large patches of the new sealant began peeling and flaking off, while US President Donald Trump claimed that vandals were to blame. He alleged that people had cut a massive slit down the middle of the pool bottom, and while several people were arrested for alleged vandalism and trespassing, federal prosecutors eventually dropped the criminal charges against all individuals accused in the incident. Federal investigators and independent coating experts later concluded that contractor errors, poor design choices, and reactive chemical treatments were the main reasons behind the Reflecting Pool failure.
Title: Fortnite’s Jonesy Looks Weirdly Real In His First Hot Toys Figure Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2026 12:22:05 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/fortnite-jonesy-looks-weirdly-real-in-his-first-hot-toys-figure/ Hot Toys has made plenty of video game figures over the years--from Batman: Arkham Knight to Marvel's Spider-Man--but it's finally venturing into the world of Fortnite. The collectible toys manufacturer has shown off its first-ever sixth-scale figure based on the popular battle royale game, with the dimension-hopping everyman Jonesy in the spotlight. Limited to 3,000 units, the Hot Toys Jonesy figure is designed to look just like the character's in-game model. Hot Toys has replicated the art direction of Fortnite for this figure--blending stylized realism with cartoonish proportions--and the collectible features soft silicone arms, a fabric tactical outfit, and various accessories. The clothing details include a scarf, a vest with a harness, belts, camouflage pants with stitched patch details, and intricate extras like a metal material necklace, armband, forearm gauntlet, a communication device, and boots with shin guards. Inside the box, you'll find gear like a pickaxe, a rocket launcher with a projectile, a tactical shotgun, and a flare gun, as well as an Orange Flopper for a quick heal, a supply llama, and the victory crown for being the last man standing after a Fortnite match. Preorders aren't open yet, but expect this figure to retail for around $285--the standard price for a Hot Toys figure, depending on various factors. We'll update this post as soon as the official links are available. This isn't the only character from a live-service game that Hot Toys is making a figure of, as last month, the company also revealed its first sixth-scale Marvel Rivals figure. South Korean K-Pop idol turned cryokinetic superhero Luna Snow looks pretty impressive in this format, and if you're interested in adding her to your collection, you can preorder this figure for $280 ahead of its expected release next year. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach sixth-scale figures will also be released soon--following their reveal last year--and you can still grab the intrepid courier Sam Porter Bridges and his nemesis, Higgs, from stores like Sideshow Collectibles.
Title: Every GameCube Game Coming To Switch 2’s Switch Online Library Date: Fri, 09 Jan 2026 14:51:00 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/every-gamecube-game-coming-to-switch-2s-switch-online-library/2900-6400/ After years of clamoring for the GameCube library to come to Nintendo Switch Online, the Nintendo Switch 2 adds the console and a few games to the Nintendo Classics collection. The GameCube library is now available as part of the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. The supported games feature a higher resolution than the original releases, and players can customize the controls as well. There is also a wireless controller designed after the original GameCube controller that offers a C button, and can also be used for non-GameCube games. There's a fun GameCube Easter egg when you start up the app that will be of interest to original GameCube owners. These GameCube games are only available to play for subscribers to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier. You can purchase that for $80 per year. Let's take a look at all of the games confirmed for Switch Online, including both those that are available now and those coming at some point in the future. As with Nintendo Switch Online’s other classic libraries, games will be added periodically and are subject to change. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker Out now? Yes Initially released in 2002, Wind Waker's cartoonish style and gameplay won over fans and spawned sequels and spin-offs with 3DS titles like Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Featured in this image The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker View Game Hub Follow Advertisement F-Zero GX Out now? Yes The 2003 racing video game was a collaboration between Nintendo and Sega. It's the successor to F-Zero X, and continued the series' difficult, high-speed racing style, while keeping the basic gameplay and control system from the Nintendo 64 game. GX introduced a "story mode" element, a series first, where the player assumes the role of F-Zero pilot Captain Falcon through nine chapters while completing various missions. Players will be able to join three other friends in four-person races online or locally. Featured in this image F-Zero GX View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Soulcalibur 2 Out now? Yes Soulcalibur II is considered to be one of the greatest fighting games ever made. It had improved graphics compared to its predecessor and introduced several new and guest characters, including Link (with four costumes) for the GameCube version. Featured in this image SoulCalibur II View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Super Mario Strikers Out now? Yes For some soccer fun, you can look forward to Super Mario Strikers on the Switch 2. First released for the GameCube in 2005--and the last Mario game published for that system--the game featured the plumber and his pals in five-a-side soccer matches. Each game could also become very unpredictable thanks to the power-ups on the field, making for some very exciting matches as the momentum shifted between teams. Two sequels would be developed over the years, starting with 2007's Mario Strikers Charged on the Wii and Mario Strikers Battle League for the Switch in 2022. Featured in this image Super Mario Strikers View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Chibi-Robo Out now? No, but it will be available starting August 21 Chibi-Robo follows a series of tiny robots, who are programmed to spread happiness. The game has the player cleaning Chibi-Robo's nearby environment, trying to collect "Happy Points." All the while, making sure your battery doesn't die. The original game was released in 2005, with a sequel for the Nintendo 3DS entitled Chibi-Robo! Photo Finder. The original Chibi-Robo had a Japanese re-release in 2009 for the Wii and the final entry for the series, Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash, also for the 3DS released back in 2015. Featured in this image Chibi-Robo View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Super Mario Sunshine Out now? Yes Taking Mario on vacation to the tropical Isle Delfino, where he, Toadsworth, Princess Peach, and five Toads are trying to soak up some sun. Too bad a villain known as Shadow Mario is vandalizing the island with graffiti, with Mario getting wrongfully convicted for the mess. As punishment, Mario is ordered to clean up Isle Delfino, using a device called the Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device (F.L.U.D.D.), all the while saving Princess Peach from Shadow Mario. The game was re-released alongside Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection on Nintendo Switch in September 2020. Featured in this image Super Mario Sunshine View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance Out now? Yes Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is the ninth main installment in the Fire Emblem series, but the third to be released in the West in 2005. A direct sequel for the Wii, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, was released in 2007 in North America and Japan, and later in 2008 for Europe and Australia. It was a rare example of cross-platform play, as players with save data from the Game Boy Advance Fire Emblem games were able to connect with Path of Radiance and access concept art and special maps revolving around characters from those games. Featured in this image Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Wario World Out now? Yes Wario's wonderfully weird 2003 game is now available to play. If you never jumped into the garlic-fueled oddity when it was first released, then you missed out on a fun adventure featuring Mario's bizarro counterpart as he faced off against a mysterious black jewel that had stolen his castle and loot. Featured in this image Wario World View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Luigi’s Mansion Out now? Yes Mario's little brother's first solo outing broke away from the mold, and for the first time, a Nintendo console launched with a Luigi-centric title. Luigi's Mansion put the green-hat hero in the spotlight as he busted ghosts and solved puzzles to rescue his brother and friends. The game was re-released for the 3DS and had two sequels, the latest being a Nintendo Switch launch title back in 2019. Featured in this image Luigi’s Mansion View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness Out now? Yes Pokemon XD was the successor to the GameCube title Pokemon Colosseum and also takes place in Orre, the setting of Colosseum's adventure mode. The game was first announced in March 2005 as a new GameCube game, but not as a sequel to Colosseum--later developments, as well as two promotional demo versions, confirmed the game would be very similar. Shadow Pokemon, first introduced in Colosseum, were a major gameplay element, with a Shadow Lugia being featured on the game's box art. While most of the gameplay recycled a lot of material from Colosseum, Pokemon XD became a fan favorite. Featured in this image Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness View Game Hub Follow Advertisement Pokemon Colosseum Out now? No The GameCube Online library will also feature Pokemon XD's predecessor, Pokemon Colosseum. The game featured creature models ported from both Pokemon Stadium games. Pokemon Colosseum was a critical and commercial success, with lots of praise for its graphics and music. Featured in this image Pokemon Colosseum View Game Hub Follow Advertisement
Title: Phasmophobia Studio Launches A Publishing Label With These Five Exciting Games Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 19:30:00 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/phasmophobia-studio-launches-a-publishing-label-with-these-five-exciting-games/ Kinetic Games is expanding into the games publishing business. Before today, Kinetic has only been known for Phasmophobia, its four-player ghost-hunting game that first exploded during the COVID pandemic and has remained a favorite since then. It has apparently done well enough to allow the team to expand its business into publishing, as it's announced a group of five games that make up its initial publishing efforts.  The lineup includes one horror title--and man, is it a big one--and also features other kinds of games, including a punky racing game starring witches on broomsticks, a super-tense Papers, Please-like experience in space, a cozy game inspired by Spiritfarer, and a metroidvania game that does something even Hollow Knight didn't think of. Here's what's coming from Kinetic Publishing. Precognition Developed by Half Mermaid In terms of name recognition, Sam Barlow's team at Half Mermaid is the biggest one attached to the new label. Project C, Half Mermaid's previously announced working-title project with Brandon Cronenberg (of the Cronenberg body-horror film dynasty), has officially been revealed as Precognition.  The team behind Immortality, Her Story, and Telling Lies is back again with another blend of full-motion-video gameplay, non-linear storytelling, and a deep rabbit hole for players to fall into. In Precognition, you'll play as Diana, who discovers she can see the future after receiving an experimental brain implant. As players explore these visions, they'll commit some to Diana's memory based on choices they make. In turn, they will alter the course of the story, which is being co-developed with Cronenberg. All three of Barlow's games to date have earned widespread acclaim, so suffice it to say this is a big get for Kinetic.  Precognition is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2028. Precognition on Steam Aether Wizard Life Developed by Vonder Games Fans of cozy games such as Spiritfarer and Stardew Valley will want to keep an eye on Aether Wizard Life from Vonder Games. In it, you'll create your own mage and live out your life in a customizable castle that resembles Spiritfarer's boat-building tools very closely. You can tend to animals, cook meals, grow crops, and work jobs around different towns. All the while, you'll be exploring a story with a touch of darkness to it, as a secret organization is endangering the lives of mages all over, and you'll need to get to the bottom of the situation. Aether will feature romanceable characters, a wide variety of activities to perform outside of story missions, and 30+ skills to learn and master.  As someone who loves Spiritfarer so much that I got a tattoo commemorating it, I'm really looking forward to this one. While the home-building tools are familiar, a lot else stands apart, so it's an enticing combination of what I've seen before next to new experiences. Aether Wizard Life is due out in Fall 2028 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2. Aether Wizard Life on Steam Shellbound Developed by Fake Lobster I have a Hollow Knight-obsessed son at home, so I can't wait to show him Shellbound. This metroidvania resembles the greats like Hollow Knight and Ori and the Blind Forest at first glance, but it adds a wrinkle that, to my knowledge, no game in the genre has had before. The world of Shellbound exists on the back of a godlike snail, with the creature's organs serving as the explorable map. But the team at Fake Lobster told me they wanted to make a metroidvania that gets away from some of the genre's normally foundational characteristics, such as backtracking and gated progress.  Using an in-game mechanic called parasitizing, you can absorb the abilities of flora and fauna around you, allowing you to access pretty much any area whenever you want, provided you are willing to adopt the consequences that come with parasitizing. As you kill more enemies to parasitize them, their class may grow stronger, so by seeking to "break" the world design, which the game fully welcomes, you'll also be giving yourself more of a challenge. It sounds like a speedrunner's dream. Giving players the chance to break progression is a fascinating shift in the metroidvania formula that could help shake up the whole genre. Shellbound is set to arrive in Summer 2028 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2. Shellbound on Steam Contact Protocol Developed by Cold Zephyr Games This one was making me sweat. Cold Zephyr's Contact Protocol is like Papers, Please in space. You play as the captain of a starship interacting with others on the proverbial space superhighway. Some are corporate spies, others are smugglers, others may be totally innocent. What's universal is a sense of distrust.  Contact Protocol exists in a world of fake news and disinformation. It's a paranoia-inducing experience in which no one seems to trust each other, and you'll often need to talk other ships down from blowing you up just because they don't like how you answered one of their questions. You can destroy ships that prove to be threats, but you can also just annihilate anyone, provided you're willing to live with the fallout. The demo I saw was extremely tense and made me feel like the team is well on the right track, complete with an edgy art style that matches its seedy world.  Contact Protocol is launching on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 in Spring 2027. Contact Protocol on Steam Crescent County Developed by Electric Saint Last but not least in my preview presentation of Kinetic's debut publishing slate was Crescent County, a game that straps motors to witches' broomsticks and sets players off in search of flow-state exploration around a vibrant world. Recently moving to a new town, players take on the role of Lu as she navigates the crescent-shaped island of Mor aboard her motorbroom, delivering packages by day and racing when the sun goes down. The gorgeous world is inspired by the films Kiki's Delivery Service and Akira, in naturally different but similarly apparent ways. The gameplay demo I was shown had a beautiful look to it, enhanced by an energetic soundtrack with a punk edge. Putting it aptly and succinctly, the team at Electric Saint describes the game as being about "kissing, drifting, and being a mess in your 20s." Crescent County debuts in Summer 2027 on--you guessed it--PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2. Crescent County on Steam This five-pack of games defines Kinetic's first foray into publishing. Check out their individual Steam pages to see more on each of them.
Title: The Rumored New James Bond Could Be An Actor From Battlefield 1 Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 19:29:51 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-rumored-new-james-bond-could-be-an-actor-from-battlefield-1/ Rumors continue to swirl about who may play the British super-spy James Bond in the next movie. The latest name in the mix is Jack Lowden, the 36-year-old known in the video game world for playing T.E. Lawrence AKA Lawrence of Arabia in Battlefield 1. TV presenter Richard Osman said on his podcast, The Rest Is Entertainment, that he heard from "someone" that Lowden is being considered for the role. He said his source told him "for definite" that Lowden is in the mix, though nothing is confirmed at this stage. Jack Lowden played T.E. Lawrence in Battlefield 1. Lowden's one and only video game credit is Battlefield 1. On TV, he's known for playing River on Slow Horses and will appear as Mr. Darcy in Netflix's upcoming Pride and Prejudice TV show. Lowden also played Forodwaith Sauron in an episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. In film, Lowden appeared in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk and voiced Gunnar in this year's Rogue Trooper movie. In May this year, Bond movie production company Amazon MGM Studios said the search for the next James Bond actor was underway and that the film studio would not comment on the casting process. Lowden is Scottish, and he would become just the second Scottish person to play James Bond, following Sean Connery. The character James Bond from the Ian Fleming book series is also Scottish. Other actors said to be in the running to play James Bond include Callum Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jacob Elordi, Theo James, Tom Francis, and Josh O'Connor, among others. Fans have been waiting a long time for the next James Bond movie, as the latest entry, No Time To Die, was released in 2021. However, it was expected to release much sooner, but had three delays due in part to COVID. Daniel Craig played James Bond in five 007 films, and wrapped up his run with No Time To Die. Amazon MGM Studios bought the franchise and reportedly paid a lot of money to take back creative control from the longtime series stewards Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. The new James Bond movie will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker known for the Dune franchise. He's also directed the movies Prisoners, Sicario, Blade Runner 2049, and Arrival.

House of the Dragon’s third season just concluded on HBO with another enormous, satisfying battle — and we’ll get one more massive, action-heavy season in 2028.
Title: Henry Cavill's 2-Hour Action-Movie Masterpiece With a Secret 007 Connection Is Officially Free to Stream Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2026 11:00:16 GMT Link: https://www.polygon.com/henry-cavill-movies-free-streaming-august-2026/ Hollywood has spent more than a decade trying to figure out exactly what kind of movie star Henry Cavill should be. He's been Superman, a monster hunter, a superspy, and Sherlock Holmes, usually playing some variation of the impossibly handsome, physically imposing guy who carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. Cavill is quite good at that. But one of his most overlooked movies suggests he's even more entertaining when somebody lets him stop saving the world and start having some fun.
Title: Pokémon Go Is Giving All Players a Perfect Mewtwo to Apologize for Times Square Stunt Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2026 10:11:47 GMT Link: https://www.polygon.com/pokemon-go-perfect-mewtwo-anniversary/ Pokémon Go developer Scopely infuriated many fans in July when it kicked off the celebration of the game’s 10th anniversary with an invite-only event in New York City’s Times Square that awarded a Mewtwo with perfect stats and a special background. The stunt, inspired by the game’s 2016 announcement trailer, was only open to influencers, content creators, and press, and some attendees took to eBay to sell their special variants for $500 to $5,000.

Google customer support proved unhelpful, telling the user that The Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition Trilogy was no longer available in Google's catalog, making them invisible in the user's digital library. The fan requested a refund, but it was denied, as more than 120 days had passed since the purchase was made.

Title: Best in Class: Stream PC Games and Study on the Same Laptop With GeForce NOW Date: Thu, 30 Jul 2026 13:00:20 +0000 Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-back-to-school-2026/ Back to school means balancing assignments, deadlines and downtime. GeForce NOW makes it easy to have it all. With cloud gaming, everyday laptops used for class can also become GeForce RTX-powered gaming setups.  When it’s time to switch from studying to gaming, members can jump into Halo: Campaign Evolved, as GeForce NOW is bringing one of the gaming world’s most celebrated titles to nearly any device through the cloud, alongside eight total games joining the GeForce NOW library this week. From A+ to AAA Gaming  This back-to-school season, the easiest upgrade isn’t replacing laptops in backpacks. It’s unlocking even more from these same laptops, from creating to gaming. With a GeForce NOW membership, Chromebooks, Macs and Surface devices can become GeForce RTX-powered gaming PCs in the cloud. The GeForce NOW library features thousands of supported PC games, letting members stream titles they already own from digital stores like Steam, Xbox PC Game Pass and Epic Games Store in just a few clicks. The cloud keeps games up to date and ready to play, making it easy to jump into a match between classes, after homework or whenever there’s free time. Time spent waiting on downloads, patches and installs becomes time spent in game instead. The Ultimate membership enables best-in-class experiences by delivering 5080-class performance in the cloud with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies for responsive, visually rich gameplay — all on the hardware gamers already own. A creator known as “Menguiny” recently put this to the test after picking up a MacBook Neo. GeForce NOW turned the laptop — usually the creator’s go-to for editing videos and everyday work — into a top-notch gaming machine, too. Another creator, “TechWithSeong” highlighted that same versatility GeForce NOW offers. Rather than juggling separate devices for work and gaming, he used GeForce NOW Ultimate to stream supported PC games across the devices he already owns — from a MacBook used for editing to gaming on the go with handheld devices. Gamers can start with a day pass and experience all the premium benefits without a monthly commitment. Plus, the cost of a day pass can be applied toward a first membership purchase — it’s like earning a little extra credit along the way. Everyone, at Their Stations Needlers never looked so sharp. Experience the Master Chief’s iconic journey on GeForce NOW in Halo: Campaign Evolved — a modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign — rebuilt with high-definition visuals, updated cinematics and refined gameplay. Whether discovering Halo for the first time or returning after 25 years to finish the fight, it’s as the Master Chief says: “We’re just getting started.” Crash-land on the mysterious ringworld alongside Cortana and uncover great secrets while battling overwhelming Covenant forces. Fight through the rebuilt campaign, then continue the adventure with three brand-new missions featuring the Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. Expanded weapons, iconic vehicles, hijackable Wraith tanks and optional Skull modifiers offer even more ways to play. Suit up across PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs and more with GeForce NOW Ultimate, powered by GeForce RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud. Experience Halo with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies delivering higher frame rates and ultralow latency that keep every firefight feeling responsive and worthy of a Spartan. From solo gaming to online co-op modes, GeForce NOW cloud saves let members log in and pick up exactly where they left off across supported devices — no lengthy downloads, extra storage space or expensive hardware upgrades required. The only thing left to carry is the mission. Let’s Play Today In addition, members can stream the following games this week: Halo: Campaign Evolved (New release on Steam and Xbox, available on Game Pass July 28) Mistfall Hunter (New release on Steam July 29) Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (New release on Ubisoft Connect July 30) Sudden Attack Zero Point (New release on Steam, July 30) The Ranchers (New release on Steam, available July 30) Corsair Cove (New release on Steam and Xbox, available on Game Pass July 31) Funnel Runners (Steam) Pathogenic (Steam) What are you planning to play this weekend? Title: Kinetic Publishing Showcase recap: 5 new indie games coming to PS5 Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 19:30:04 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/12/kinetic-publishing-showcase-recap-5-new-indie-games-coming-to-ps5/ You may have heard of Kinetic Games through our horror title, Phasmophobia. It’s sold over 27 million copies, and thanks to this success, in January of this year we established our very own publishing label, Kinetic Publishing. Our aim at Kinetic Publishing is to support and empower indie devs to create incredible games, giving them the level of support that our founder, Daniel Knight, would have benefitted from when he was first creating Phasmophobia. Today we debuted our Kinetic Publishing showcase, where we got to reveal the first five games we’ll be publishing throughout 2027 and 2028. These dev teams all have unique, inspiring stories and just as equally exciting games. From a true sci-fi horror to a witch-tech delivery adventure, and everything in between, we’ve curated a selection of games we hope players are going to love, and of course, they will all be available on PlayStation 5. Contact Protocol  Can you make the right decisions under pressure? That’s the question the team behind Contact Protocol wants the answer to. In this sci-fi starship job simulator, you are tasked with the scourge that is corporate admin as you assess the intentions of incoming ships on the Pale Horse’s voyage to Jupiter’s largest moon. Compare incoming information against company records and do your best to determine whether ships are friend or foe. But make the wrong decision and all it takes is one torpedo to guarantee your safety – while sending the other crew to their death in the vacuum of space. It’s high stakes, it’s intense, but it’ll leave you coming back for more, as players will soon find out when Contact Protocol launches on PlayStation 5 in Spring 2027. Crescent County  Crescent County is a game that sings with sunset-soaked, dreamy graphics from the mind of creative director and illustrator, Anna Hollinrake. Based on her own lived experience moving to the Isle of Wight, players will discover what it means to find home on this magical crescent isle. From crunchy, flow-state motorbroom driving, to messy, gossip-fuelled local drama and flirty relationships, Crescent County aims to offer the experience of Kiki’s Delivery Service meets the bikes of Akira set on a rural, witch-tech island. Celebrating queerness, found-family and community in a way we couldn’t ignore, get ready to lose yourself in the beauty of Crescent County when it comes to PlayStation 5 in Summer 2027. Shellbound  Shellbound has taken the best bits of a metroidvania and set them on a ‘big ass snail’. Giving real meaning to the phrase ‘living world’, players take on the role of a parasite exploring an environment where organs are labyrinths and the snail’s very biology can reshape the paths available to them. The combination of combat and platforming provides the much-loved metroidvania challenge, proving simple to learn but satisfyingly difficult to master. Harnessing these abilities is the key to reaching hidden areas, unlocking new routes, and defeating powerful bosses – which players will learn when Shellbound launches on PlayStation 5 in Summer 2028. Aether Wizard Life  The creativity and ambition of the team at Vonder Games is truly something to behold, as they combine town-building, platforming and exploration with action-RPG combat, farming, and dating in Aether Wizard Life. Players take on the role of an apprentice mage in the haunted town of Starfall, and must uncover the secrets of mysterious wizard kidnappings. Along the way, you are free to choose what tasks to take on each day, whether that’s growing magical crops, caring for exotic creatures, venturing into deep and twisting dungeons to fight monsters, or talking with the townsfolk to discover new side quests and problems to solve. This new cozy wizard life sim launches on Playstation 5 in Autumn 2028. Precognition  We are beyond excited to announce that we will be partnering with Half Mermaid Productions on their newest game, Precognition. Originally teased under the name ‘Project C’, Precognition is a sci-fi horror being created by Immortality and Her Story creator Sam Barlow in collaboration with acclaimed horror director Brandon Cronenberg. At Kinetic, we’ve played (and gotten hooked on) Sam’s previous FMV games like Immortality and Her Story, and jumped at the chance to work with such a talented team. Of course, Kinetic is best known for its own horror title, so we’re very happy to have an equally thrilling game in our publishing lineup. And Precognition aims to go one step further than Sam’s previous games, giving players a real sense of agency and freedom in choosing where the story goes. Be sure to interrogate the smallest of details, and get ready to face the consequences that await when you meddle with the flow of time, when Precognition launches on PlayStation 5 in Spring 2028.

Title: Do a literal monster mash in Dance of Theseus, a strangely undisgusting blend of plastic surgery and Balatro-style fashion battles Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2026 12:03:08 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/do-a-literal-monster-mash-in-dance-of-theseus-a-strangely-undisgusting-blend-of-plastic-surgery-and-balatro-style-fashion-battles It is time to confront the terrible truth that I once took part in a school fashion show. I ran in two categories, Ballroom and Street, a serious test of range for a kid who had only just mastered the daredevil technique of wearing a shirt without a tie. In the Ballroom bracket, I was asked to do a waltz in an Indian wedding gown provided by a local sponsor who, I can only assume, immediately went out of business. In Street, I had to wear a Gap hoodtop and shoot a fire-eater (one of the Cool Teachers) with a Super Soaker, while some other lost soul moonwalked down the runway in a golden suit. In retrospect, I am filing all this under the secret umbrella category of God's Greatest Mistake. There is exactly no photographic evidence, and I will thank you not to search for any on Facebook. It's so much less upsetting being a fashion model in Dance of Theseus, which might sound weird given that in Dance of Theseus, you don't just swap outfits – you graft on new heads, arms and legs, either bought from sniffy griffon dressmakers or moulded together out of seashells, horned skulls, and scraps of shimmering hide. Created by Shanghai-based Citreat Studio, it's a cheerful, colourful and somehow unrevolting life sim RPG with a kind of Balatro-esque Frankensteinmaxxing element. I've been playing the demo, and it's both entertaining and a source of endless inspiration. Argh, if only I'd had access to this, when I was 16!!! Read more
Title: "We're not really sure what Big Walk's future looks like," say the waddling co-op puzzler's devs, though it probably doesn’t involve DLC Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2026 11:31:00 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/were-not-really-sure-what-big-walks-future-looks-like-say-the-waddling-co-op-puzzlers-devs-though-it-probably-doesnt-involve-dlc I’ve spent something like seven hours in funny-thinky cooperative puzzler Big Walk, and the concept of more Big Walk is something that confounds and, just a little bit, frightens me. What, you spent an entire evening stubbing toes in the dark and overconfidently barking incorrect solutions at friends, only for the opening of the map room to reveal the humbling significance of your progress thus far, and you want more? Friend, if I play this until my forties, I might make it halfway through. Even so, questions on future content were repeatedly put to developers House House in a recent reddit AMA. The response: no plans at the moment, though there’s nothing stopping completionist players from making their own fun with its freeform systems. Read more
Title: Twitch are scraping streams for AI training by default, and even their own execs don’t know what user data may have been swept up Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2026 10:01:24 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/twitch-are-scraping-streams-for-ai-training-by-default-and-even-their-own-execs-dont-know-what-user-data-may-have-been-swept-up Livestreaming giants Twitch have admitted using streamed content to train the generative AI models of parent company Amazon. While it’s not clear when the platform began feeding its users’ work into Jeffy B’s Planetkilling Machines, yesterday’s announcement of an opt-out toggle – buried deep within Twitch’s security settings, and set to enable AI stream-gobbling by default – sparked outrage among streamers and viewers that such scraping was occurring at all. Twitch’s chief product officer Mike Minton and head of community Mary Kish were wheeled out to explain the policy in a stream of their own, though it’s possible the only ones reassured by the discussion were the Amazon bots themselves. Although Minton was upfront about the models’ use of streamed video, he conceded that he didn’t know if users’ personal data had also been caught up in the scraping net, and that he wasn’t actually sure what Amazon "has done in terms of model training." Awesome. Awesome. Read more
Title: Immortality developer Sam Barlow reveals Precognition, a sci-fi horror collaboration with Brandon Cronenberg about "really terrible things that are just around the corner" Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 19:30:00 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/immortality-developer-sam-barlow-reveals-precognition-a-sci-fi-horror-collaboration-with-brandon-cronenberg-about-really-terrible-things-that-are-just-around-the-corner Immortality and Her Story developer Sam Barlow has announced Precognition, a new sci-fi horror game in development at Half Mermaid Productions, which features writing from Antiviral and Infinity Pool director Brandon Cronenberg. That's Brandon, not David, yes, but still, having any kind of Cronenberg in your credits is a win, right? When's the last time you made a game with a Cronenberg? Besides, I thought Infinity Pool was good fun. And I quite like the sound of Precognition, which stars a woman with brain implants who can choose between visions to weave a range of possible dark futures. It began life as a slightly random idea for a Metroid game, apparently. Here's a trailer. Read more
Title: Subnautica 2 now has a beta update branch, letting players try out patches before they're finished, but beware, your saves won't carry over Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 17:44:24 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/subnautica-2-now-has-a-beta-update-branch-letting-players-try-out-patches-before-theyre-finished-but-beware-your-saves-wont-carry-over Ocean survival sim Subnautica 2 now has an experimental beta branch on Steam, allowing the intrepid PC owner to test out updates before they're officially live. If there's one thing Subnautica 2's toothy underwater ecosystem has taught us, it's the value of taking risks. Just be aware that any savegames you create in the experimental branch will be specific to that version of the game - you won't be able to carry progress back to the main release. Read more
