Title: New GTA 6 Leak Features Shocking Gameplay Footage, And We Mean That Literally
Date: Wed, 19 Aug 2026 16:09:42 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-gta-6-leak-features-shocking-gameplay-footage-and-we-mean-that-literally/
The second day of apparent Grand Theft Auto VI leaks has started with a new gameplay clip focused on Jason Duval. There's bad driving, a well-known pop song, and multiple people shot by a taser-like weapon. The video even ends with a cutscene in which Jason has a beer on a boat with his buddy, Cal Hampton.
Kotaku spotted the most recent presumed leak of GTA 6, noting that it's titled "Taser Video." However, the weapon Jason picks up from a person after stomping on them is generically called Shocker. The clip then sees the protagonist electrocuting an already downed foe, as well as two adversaries who run up on him. The range of the Shocker seems pretty far.
Before that, Jason is seen driving a car with Tate McRae's "Sports Car" playing in the background. He gets in a fender bender, and then eventually exits the vehicle for on-foot combat. This sees the protagonist pistol-whipping foes until acquiring the Shocker weapon. Last but not least, the clip abruptly ends with Jason and Cal on the water for a few seconds.
This follows yesterday's apparent GTA 6 leaks that included Jason playing basketball outside by himself and even the supposed entire map for the open-world game. So far, there has been no official comment by Rockstar Games. Meanwhile, the leakers claim they are acting in the interests of gamers, and part of the reason for these actions is anger over GTA 6 not arriving on a disc. Consumer rights group Stop Killing Games disagrees and believes people shouldn't support the hacker group behind it.
GTA 6 is set to get an official "Extended Look" trailer on August 27 that will debut on Netflix first. The highly anticipated game also recently appeared in a new PS5 promo and did look a bit different.

Title: Ex-PlayStation Boss Says Game Development Will Have A “Tough Future” Because Of AI
Date: Wed, 19 Aug 2026 16:01:23 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ex-playstation-boss-says-game-development-will-have-a-tough-future-because-of-ai/
As a veteran of the industry, former PlayStation Studios boss Shuhei has a lot of thoughts about where things are currently headed. And with AI infiltrating just about every major developer under the sun, he is both fascinated by and worried about artificial intelligence's overall impact on game development.
In an August 18 Gamerbraves interview, Yoshida said AI tools are "allowing almost anybody to become a game developer." Because AI can do things like write code for you, an artist or a designer can create entire games by themselves now. This, in his mind, will lead to more games being created and released than ever before.
While he praised the speed at which developers will be able to launch games with AI, Yoshida was quick to put the rose-tinted glasses away, highlighting the adverse effects it could have on gaming.
"For anyone who wants to make money by developing games, we'll see even tougher competition going forward,” he said. "As a fan of games, I'm very excited about the future and seeing so many interesting games come out. But from a developer's standpoint, it's going to be a really tough future."
For him, "tougher competition" is the greatest concern, as the exorbitant amount of games released will give consumers more options and probably a greater sense of decision paralysis.
Yoshida also commented on PlayStation's decision to end all physical disc production in January 2028, saying it may not be "such a big issue" since physical-disc games still often require downloads, just like digital media. Still, he did acknowledge how much it'd suck if "physical games were no longer available to collect."
Yoshida has been opening up about all facets of the games industry, from explaining why he was fired from his position to sharing his thoughts on the Steam Machine. This muzzle is off.

Title: Voice Mods Can Make Your Favorite Games Feel Brand New Again
Date: Wed, 19 Aug 2026 16:00:00 +0000
Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/voice-mods-can-make-your-favorite-games-feel-brand-new-again/
Gaming has never been more expensive. We’re here to investigate why, and help you play more while spending less. Welcome to GameSpot Cheap Week.
There are countless types of video game mods out there, but my favorite by far are those that add voice acting to games that had none (or very little) to begin with. Often referred to as voice mods or vocalized mods, these free, community-made add-ons transform their respective games, often making older titles that I've gone through a half-dozen times feel almost brand new.
And so, in the spirit of Cheap Week, I wanted to take this opportunity to convince you to try out vocalized mods if you haven't already. After all, if you're looking to save money, you can't get cheaper than free. And if you've already bought a game that you love on PC, downloading a free vocalized mod is a fantastic way to enjoy that game again. These downloads are usually created by talented modders driven by a passion to create and a love for their favorite games, and also feature stellar voice talents.
Now, if I'm going to talk about these mods, I have to start with my absolute favorite: Stardew Voices, created by voice actor, software engineer, and Twitch streamer Shannon Hobby. As the name suggests, this mod adds voice acting to Stardew Valley--as of August 19, the mod adds voices for the 12 love interests included in the farming sim prior to Update 1.7: Abigail, Alex, Elliot, Emily, Haley, Harvey, Leah, Maru, Penny, Sam, Sebastian, and Shane.
And, honestly, that's enough. The dubbing covers all 12 characters' regular dialogue, as well as the special dialogue they have during annual festivals and the heart events that play as you befriend/romance them. Does this change how the game plays? No, not at all. But there's just something special about hearing that Abigail's voice is a tad deeper than the other women in the valley, that Sam is literally the human equivalent of a golden retriever, and that best-girl Haley does, in fact, consider herself above me upon our first meeting and is not playfully poking fun.
Stardew Voices makes the experience of Stardew Valley more immersive, and the first time I used it, it reignited my interest in chasing after certain moments and heart events again, after having seen so many of them over and over. The voice dubbing made these scenes feel new, and subsequently helped make Stardew Valley feel new again.
"At the time I decided to make this mod, the story of Stardew itself felt more relatable than ever," Hobby told me via email. "I was knee-deep in a tech career that I, frankly, wasn’t entirely ready for at the time, and feeling starved of the creative work I used to seek out as a teen.
"I thought a Stardew Valley voice-over mod would be a great idea and figured it was only a matter of time before someone made it," Hobby continued. "Even though I had all of the skills to make the project, I ran into all of the usual excuses: I don’t have enough time, it would be a waste to spend the money on voice actors when I can’t make a profit off of the final product, it’s probably not possible or else someone else would have already done it, etc."
Of course, Stardew Voices isn't the only fantastic voice mod. I first discovered this type of mod through Hallownest Vocalized, a voice dubbing mod for Team Cherry's metroidvania. Hollow Knight already has voice acting, of course, but every character speaks in a gibberish language akin to how adults talk in Peanuts or The Sims' language of Simlish. So Hallownest Vocalized doesn't so much add voice acting to the game as it remakes it--the mod changes all speaking characters so that they use English.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFXN2rKDuho
Directed by Hollow Knight lore YouTuber Ccmaci, Hollownest Vocalized was a project that took two years and incorporated more than 100 volunteer voice actors. I love this mod a ton. Hollow Knight is already one of my favorite games, and warrior-princess Hornet is a big reason why. Artist and voice actor Lyco does a phenomenal job voicing Hornet in the mod, and in my mind the accent that Hollow Knight Vocalized gives Hornet is simply canonical to her character. It's tricky for me to replay Hollow Knight now without the mod.
And if I could be selfish for a bit here, I want more people to play mods like this so they'll talk about them and, hopefully, make them more popular. And with that popularity, I hope there's a greater degree of awareness from fans of just how much effort is put into mods like this. Plans for new ones pop up all the time, but many never reach fruition. Hallownest Vocalized follows on the heels of a 2021 mod project to do something similar but that just fizzled out, for example.
As more of these mods reach some semblance of a finish line, however, the blueprints for how to make more just like them become clearer. Hallownest Vocalized was the main inspiration for New Kunlun Vocalized, for example, a mod that will add voice dubbing to Nine Sols. The project was announced in May 2026, and, as of August 2026, auditions for voice actors are still open. The mod's creator, YouTuber Lirkz, told me via email that he spoke to Ccmaci ahead of the project and used the lessons learned for Hallownest Vocalized to frame his project.
"I reached out to Ccmaci around the start of serious development for the project; he was very helpful for a lot of things, but specifically, in relation to planning for challenges, [he offered] the advice to have backup actors in case something goes wrong during development," Lirkz said. "I'd go as far as to say I basically used HNV as a foundation to build NKV from, and I'm very thankful to Ccmaci for that, among other things. That being said, in HNV, Ccmaci definitely put great effort into voicing every single part of Hollow Knight--we have a slightly different goal with Nine Sols. Hollow Knight has a very expansive world, which tells its story more through the environment and small details than direct dialogue, which means it's very beneficial to voice everything."
He continued: "On the other hand, while Nine Sols also has a very expansive world and much environmental storytelling, it has a much clearer storyline told through direct dialogue, so we want to focus more specifically on that story than absolutely everything. We still plan to voice the very large majority of the 70,352 words within the game, all the direct dialogue and character interactions, even some prompts, but stuff like database entries and other things that would likely not have a voice--[those] are places where we may skip it in favor of focusing more on the story."
Part of me wishes that more game development studios were willing to take on the task of adding voice acting to their respective games in post-launch updates--especially any that have enjoyed overwhelming financial success and might be better equipped to shoulder the burden of time and resources. It's not like post-launch dubbing has never happened before either. Developer Voracious Games added voice acting to Potionomics two whole years after the game came out via a free update. That's a really cool update to do for your game that long after its release.
But that's the exception, not the norm. For whatever reason, balancing boss encounters, fixing user-interface issues, adding brand-new levels or areas or weapons, or any of the other types of content updates the games get, are all quite normal. But retroactively adding voice acting is just not something our industry does, leaving it to fan-made mods that don't garner the creators any money for their time and efforts.
But I am at least happy with the few voice mods we've got. You'd be amazed at how different it feels to play through a game's story once primarily text-based conversations are brought to life with talented actors, and the hard work that goes into bringing these mods to life should be celebrated.
"This mod is my dream," Hobby said. "I would love to add voiceover to every game ever made and have that be what I do every day until I die. I’m grateful I got to do it at least once though."

Title: 14 Years Later, Quentin Tarantino’s 10/10 Western Thriller Classic Explodes Onto Streaming
Date: Wed, 19 Aug 2026 15:47:07 GMT
Link: https://www.polygon.com/quentin-tarantino-django-unchained-streaming-success-pluto-tv-august-2026/
Quentin Tarantino has never been particularly interested in making a traditional Western. Instead, the filmmaker has spent much of his career borrowing the genre’s imagery, rhythms, and archetypes and reshaping them into something distinctly his own. Kill Bill blended spaghetti Western influences with martial arts and revenge epics, while The Hateful Eight turned a snowbound cabin into the setting for a single-room, paranoia-filled Western. Even Once Upon a Time in Hollywood played with the mythology of the Old West through its fading television cowboy Rick Dalton and the changing face of Hollywood. But one of Tarantino’s biggest swings at the genre remains his most successful — and more than a decade after its theatrical release, audiences are still showing up for it.
Title: Class Is in Session: GeForce NOW Levels Up Linux, Chromebooks and More
Date: Thu, 13 Aug 2026 13:00:33 +0000
Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-linux-native-app/
GeForce NOW is giving cloud gaming an extra-credit upgrade just in time for back-to-school season.
The native Linux app for GeForce NOW is officially out of beta. GeForce NOW is also delivering new cloud optimizations that make Frame Generation feel even more responsive while streaming. On top of that, Performance members will see higher frame rates in demanding games thanks to a CPU performance adjustment.
Plus, learn how GeForce NOW can add high-performance GeForce RTX gaming to the Chromebooks students already rely on for school – and how eligible new owners can take advantage of Chromebook Fast Pass.
It all adds up to more ways to move from assignments to adventures across nearly any device.
The only homework left is to decide what to play. This week, nine new games join the GeForce NOW library.
The Cloud Gets Extra Credit
GeForce NOW keeps getting better.
The native Linux app for GeForce NOW has officially graduated from beta. Built on months of community feedback, the release focuses on performance, stability and polish while continuing to support Ubuntu 24.04 and later. A new Flatpack repository makes getting started and receiving future updates even easier. Visit the download page for more information and instructions.
The cloud handles the rendering, so Linux gamers can tap into the latest GeForce RTX performance while staying on their preferred setup — without local hardware upgrades, compatibility headaches or complicated workarounds.
Smooth gameplay makes the grade.
GeForce NOW has also optimized DLSS Frame Generation in the cloud, reducing latency and making games feel more responsive. The improvements are especially noticeable when streaming at 60 or 120 frames per second in 1440p and 4K, helping every mouse movement and camera pan feel more immediate.
Performance members will also enjoy additional server software optimizations to improve frame rates in select CPU-intensive games, helping demanding titles run more smoothly while delivering an even better gameplay experience. The cloud-side upgrade happens automatically, with nothing for members to install or configure, and at no additional cost.
From Class Mode to Game Mode
Class dismissed. Game on.
Chromebooks already in backpacks can double as a PC gaming powerhouse, with GeForce NOW giving everyday school setups extra credit.
Chromebooks handling lectures, group projects and browser tabs can transform into high-performance GeForce RTX gaming PCs in just a few clicks.
When class is out, open a supported browser or app and stream more than 2,000 supported PC games from existing libraries, with the cloud handling the heavy lifting. The same flexibility extends to Macs, Surface devices, everyday laptops, Steam Deck and mobile devices.
Plus, eligible new Chromebook and Chromebook+ owners can claim a year of GeForce NOW at no cost with Chromebook Fast Pass, with priority access and no ads.
Study. Stream PC games. Same device.

Title: Best in Class: Stream PC Games and Study on the Same Laptop With GeForce NOW
Date: Thu, 30 Jul 2026 13:00:20 +0000
Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-back-to-school-2026/
Back to school means balancing assignments, deadlines and downtime. GeForce NOW makes it easy to have it all.
With cloud gaming, everyday laptops used for class can also become GeForce RTX-powered gaming setups.
When it’s time to switch from studying to gaming, members can jump into Halo: Campaign Evolved, as GeForce NOW is bringing one of the gaming world’s most celebrated titles to nearly any device through the cloud, alongside eight total games joining the GeForce NOW library this week.
From A+ to AAA Gaming
This back-to-school season, the easiest upgrade isn’t replacing laptops in backpacks. It’s unlocking even more from these same laptops, from creating to gaming.
With a GeForce NOW membership, Chromebooks, Macs and Surface devices can become GeForce RTX-powered gaming PCs in the cloud. The GeForce NOW library features thousands of supported PC games, letting members stream titles they already own from digital stores like Steam, Xbox PC Game Pass and Epic Games Store in just a few clicks.
The cloud keeps games up to date and ready to play, making it easy to jump into a match between classes, after homework or whenever there’s free time. Time spent waiting on downloads, patches and installs becomes time spent in game instead.
The Ultimate membership enables best-in-class experiences by delivering 5080-class performance in the cloud with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies for responsive, visually rich gameplay — all on the hardware gamers already own.
A creator known as “Menguiny” recently put this to the test after picking up a MacBook Neo. GeForce NOW turned the laptop — usually the creator’s go-to for editing videos and everyday work — into a top-notch gaming machine, too.
Another creator, “TechWithSeong” highlighted that same versatility GeForce NOW offers. Rather than juggling separate devices for work and gaming, he used GeForce NOW Ultimate to stream supported PC games across the devices he already owns — from a MacBook used for editing to gaming on the go with handheld devices.
Gamers can start with a day pass and experience all the premium benefits without a monthly commitment. Plus, the cost of a day pass can be applied toward a first membership purchase — it’s like earning a little extra credit along the way.
Everyone, at Their Stations
Needlers never looked so sharp.

Crash-land on the mysterious ringworld alongside Cortana and uncover great secrets while battling overwhelming Covenant forces. Fight through the rebuilt campaign, then continue the adventure with three brand-new missions featuring the Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. Expanded weapons, iconic vehicles, hijackable Wraith tanks and optional Skull modifiers offer even more ways to play.
Suit up across PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs and more with GeForce NOW Ultimate, powered by GeForce RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud. Title: Sony are rebooting their live service Horizon game as a more traditional co-op affair, claim sources, with a proper Horizon Forbidden West sequel still years away

Horizon Hunters Gathering, the live service multiplayer spin-off for PlayStation's post-apocalyptic Horizon series, is being rebooted as a smaller and more traditional co-op experience with a story mode, according to anonymous insiders. In the process, we're told, several of the project's staff are being reassigned within Sony's gamedev empire, even as a small team of Guerrilla Games work on the next "proper" singleplayer Horizon game.

Title: Amid accusations of a post-beta difficulty bump, Mortal Shell 2 devs patch the new soulslike to stop players riposting so hard they steal enemy weapons

Belated congratulations to everybody who correctly guessed that Mortal Shell 2 was the mystery game our guides team were raving about a couple of weeks ago. You'll hopefully have read Jeremy's glowing review, in which he calls the new Soulslike RPG "an incredible second outing that capitalises upon the potential of the first Mortal Shell and brings forth nostalgic memories of DOOM, Heretic, Hexen, and other PC gaming gems." Now, let us speak of difficulty thresholds, hotfix patches, and turning the tables on enemies so badassedly that you accidentally pinch their weapons. Read more
Title: STALKER 2 gets serious performance and visual upgrades with its 2.0 update, testing confirms, polishing up one of the biggest flawed gems in FPS games
Date: Wed, 19 Aug 2026 13:30:00 +0000
Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/stalker-2-gets-serious-performance-and-visual-upgrades-with-its-20-update-testing-confirms-polishing-up-one-of-the-biggest-flawed-gems-in-fps-games
I don’t begrudge anyone who’s waited to try STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl until it got its technical defects fixed. They’re still wrong, obviously - an absorbing and eerily atmospheric survival FPS is still an absorbing and eerily atmospheric survival FPS when it has the structural integrity of baked beans. But it was spectacularly broken at launch, and although nearly two years of patches have swatted countless bugs and beefed up the series’ signature A-Life NPC simulation, it’s remained a heavyweight GPU-puncher on general performance.
Thank the Zone, then, for the 2.0 update, which rolls out tomorrow in tandem with the also-good Cost of Hope expansion. It ambitiously migrates STALKER 2 to a newer, sleeker version of Unreal Engine 5, and makes sweeping (though handcrafted) changes to lighting and environmental deets. Based on what I’ve played, the result is both a better-looking game and a better-performing one. So get in here, stalker - there’s never been a better time to have your skeleton melted out by an anomalous soap bubble.

Title: "Through the looking glass": as Arkane fight for their future, Dishonored veteran Harvey Smith reveals new studio dedicated to immersive sims

Days after Deus Ex director Warren Spector announced that he was quitting the business, another former Ion Storm developer, Harvey Smith, has revealed Black Pony Immersive - a new studio dedicated to the creation of "imaginative first-person action RPGs set within well-realized worlds, where players create their own memorable experiences with expressive, emergent game systems." The announcement features the maxim: "through the looking glass, we’re chasing a dream of mystery, meaning, and creative play." Hey, I understood that reference! Sure sounds like an imsim shop to me. Title: STALKER 2: Cost of Hope review: An expanded Zone that begs to be explored, even as its faction war fizzles
Date: Wed, 19 Aug 2026 13:00:00 +0000
Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/stalker-2-cost-of-hope-review
Like the technical fix-uppery of the 2.0 update it’s launching alongside, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl’s Cost of Hope expansion arrives with a determinedly furrowed brow; that kind of enthusiastic, if just slightly contrite, look of someone hellbent on righting their own past wrongs.
Of course, most of the open-world shooter’s past crimes are long absolved, if not forgiven immediately on the grounds that they were committed amid an actual war. But Cost of Hope does serve as a second chance for this bleak, beautiful, tense, thrilling, imperfectly brilliant game to address certain omissions it made back in 2024 – even if some of these restorations gleam brighter than others.
