Title: Sony Is Bringing The Best Trend Of ’90s Console Design To PS5 Date: Wed, 28 Oct 2026 15:00:00 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/sony-is-bringing-the-best-trend-of-90s-console-design-to-ps5/ Sony is embracing one of the best trends of the late '90s and early 2000s, revealing a new line of DualSense controllers and PlayStation 5 console covers with transparent materials. Dubbed the Prism Collection, it will come in three distinct glossy colors: Flare Orange, Emerald Green, and Graphite Gray.Ā  Preorders will open on November 10 through the PlayStation Direct store ahead of a February 4, 2027 rollout. Sony says the design was inspired by the PS5 design team'sĀ interest in giving the console and its accessories a transparent look while also showing off the hardware beneath the protective surface. Flare Orange has a "bold and vibrant aesthetic," Emerald Green offers an "elegant" finish, and Sony says a PS5 will look "refined" with a Graphite Gray cover. "We know how much our fans have been looking forward to the return of transparent controllers," Leo Cardoso and Satoshi Aoyagi from Sony'sĀ Color, Material, and Finish design team said in a press statement.Ā "We wanted to bring back the iconic see-through trend of the late '90s in a fresh, modern way that complements the PS5's industrial design. "The high-gloss clear finish extends across the back of the controller, offering a look at the technology that powers the DualSense controller while maintaining a sleek, monochromatic look. The metallic finish on the middle cover brings the contrasting surfaces together for a premium appearance that feels consistent with the PS5 generation." The Prism Collection DualSense controllers have an MSRP of $85 each, while the PS5 console covers are priced at $75 each. If you missed it, Sony also launchedĀ limited-edition Marathon and Gran Turismo DualSense controllers this year, and Marvel's Wolverine fans can grab a new PS5 console cover and matching DualSense controller in striking yellow or adamantium-inspired silver, complete with claw marks.
Title: Here’s Why State Of Decay 3 Has Taken 6 Years To Develop So Far Date: Wed, 28 Oct 2026 14:44:53 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/heres-why-state-of-decay-3-has-taken-6-years-to-develop-so-far/ State of Decay 3 made an impact at the 2020 Xbox Games Showcase with a slick trailer that teased features that wouldn't make the final cut, like undead deer and frigid landscapes. Six years later, things have changed at developer Undead Labs as it navigates life after Xbox and a shift in gameplay design that led the studio to ditch ideas to make State of Decay 3 an MMO. Undead Labs founder Jeff Strain planned to make the threequel far bigger than its predecessors, and after his departure in 2019, several design team members kept building the tools to support that vision. Speaking to GamesIndustry.Biz, Undead Labs CEO Philip Holt said the studio scrapped this plan by the end of 2022, choosing instead to rebuild State of Decay 3 to more closely resemble the first two games, which offered both single-player and co-op modes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5--CgCpM7M&pp=0gcJCSsMAYcqIYzv "When the founder was here, I think he always had a vision of making an MMO and the ultimate global scale of a zombie apocalypse," Holt said. "And so there was just a different set of creative objectives the team was trying to pursue at that time." Holt, who previously worked at Guild Wars developer ArenaNet, was well familiar with how challenging it can be to build and maintain an MMO, especially if it becomes successful. Undead Labs eventually pivoted away from its MMO goals for State of Decay 3, and Holt added that the current version has been in development since 2023. "We basically rewrote the entire State of Decay game, and we will not do that again," Holt added. "We have the benefit now of this pretty significant investment in software that we got to figure out how to make the most of. I think it's highly unlikely that we spend as much time on the next game as we did on State of Decay 3." Holt previously said the 2020 trailer was made to keep the project and the studio on Microsoft’s radar. Since then, Xbox has divested itself of Undead Labs--and several other studios--and the developer has become an independent employee-owned entity. State of Decay 3 doesn't have a release date yet, but it is still coming to Xbox Game Pass.
Title: New Hunger Games Movie Comes Out The Day After GTA 6, But Is The Director Scared? Date: Wed, 28 Oct 2026 14:36:28 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-hunger-games-movie-comes-out-the-day-after-gta-6-but-is-the-director-scared/ GTA 6 launches on November 19, and one day later, the new Hunger Games movie, Sunrise on the Reaping, comes to theaters. GTA 6 is expected to be an unprecedented hit that captures people's time and attention, especially right at launch. Will this impact Sunrise on the Reaping? That remains to be seen, but director Francis Lawrence hopes people can find time for both. "Unfortunately, I think it comes out right around the same time our movie does. Hopefully, people find time for both. Play GTA, go see our movie, play more GTA," he joked to IGN. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS35YSjopjE Other movies releasing on November 20 include the wide releases of Paper Tiger and I Play Rocky. GTA 6 is the only mainstream game set to release on November 19, with no other big releases set to debut within five days on either side. Publishers are intentionally scheduling releases to avoid GTA 6's blast zone. Circana's Mat Piscatella told GamesBeat that "everyone's just scared" of releasing near GTA 6, but the data doesn't necessarily back this up. "I guess I get it, but I just think it’s completely overblown. A lot of these moves and shifting away just seems more irrational than rational," he said. New data from Circana showed that nearly 1 in 3 US console and PC gamers plan to buy GTA 6, and that's the highest purchase intent ever recorded by Circana. Also in the interview, Lawrence listed off some of his favorite video games, including Metal Gear Solid, BioShock, Call of Duty, and the original GTA. Lawrence singling out BioShock is no surprise, as he's attached to direct the upcoming BioShock movie for Netflix ... if it ever gets made.

Title: 26 Years Later, BioWare’s Most Influential RPG Is Still Shaping My Life Date: Wed, 28 Oct 2026 15:00:18 GMT Link: https://www.polygon.com/bioware-baldurs-gate-2-best-game-rpg-legacy/ The game was Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. The T-shirt, which came with the collector’s edition, sported the game’s logo: two mirrored heads, one in light, one in darkness (the exact meaning of the image has been debated for the past 26 years, with no conclusive answer). I was the kid, of course. Soon after, I bought the game and, for the first time, immersed myself in the world of the Forgotten Realms, brought to life in digital form by BioWare. Almost three decades later, BioWare is gone. The sad news made me reflect on how Baldur’s Gate 2 and the other computer RPGs they developed between the 1990s and the early 2000s marked the trajectory of my life.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 arrives on GeForce NOW at launch, bringing a new campaign, multiplayer action and DMZ, high-stakes extraction mode to supported devices. The campaign also gets an enhanced look: GeForce RTX 5080-class performance arrives for Ultimate members, bringing support for ray-tracing features in the cloud. There’s a new way to join the cloud, too: Existing supported Fire TV Stick users can now purchase one-month Performance or Ultimate memberships directly through Amazon, making it easier to sign up and start streaming on the big screen. Plus, Square Enix’s FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE brings cinematic pixel art and strategic battles to the cloud, and The Elder Scrolls Online’s Echoes of Skyrim Season adds the entire Greymoor Chapter free for all ESO Standard Edition owners. It’s all part of six games joining the GeForce NOW library this week. Deployment Without the Downloads Squad up and answer the call on the cloud. Activision and Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches today on GeForce NOW. Members can drop into the trenches in Korea, close-quarter combat in New York, high-octane chases through Paris, night raids in Mumbai and city-wide engagements to reclaim occupied territory. Fight as Private Park, a young South Korean soldier facing live combat for the first time alongside his squad as a routine patrol turns into a desperate fight for survival. Beyond the front lines, operator-turned-outlaw Captain Price is operating outside the system he once served, pursuing revenge through covert missions as the conflict spreads. Multiplayer pairs precise combat with fluid movement, a dozen core 6v6 maps from around the world and battlegrounds that are shaped by the campaign’s global conflict. The DMZ extraction mode sends players into contested territory to recover valuable technology, weigh objectives and decide when to get out. Loot, fight, negotiate, betray and extract — it’s all fair in the cloud and battleground. Ultimate members can now experience the campaign with ray tracing, powered by newly added GeForce RTX 5080-class performance across PCs, Macs, handhelds, mobile devices, browsers, supported TVs and more. With game downloads and installs handled by GeForce NOW, members can spend less time preparing a local rig and more time preparing the next loadout. A New Way to Play A new way to join GeForce NOW on Fire TV. GeForce NOW in-app purchase is rolling out to existing supported Fire TV Stick users, making it possible to purchase a membership directly through Amazon using an existing account. Transactions are processed through Amazon’s billing system, creating a more seamless path from setup to gameplay. GeForce NOW transforms Fire TV into a powerful PC gaming rig in the cloud. The library includes thousands of ready-to-play games, including many of the world’s most-played titles and more than 100 free-to-play games. No downloads, installs, patches or updates stand between a new game and playtime. An Amazon Fire TV Stick, the GeForce NOW app and an Ultimate membership are all it takes to level up the living room with GeForce RTX 5080-powered gaming. A Pixel-Perfect Fantasy Classic roots. A new adventure. Square Enix’s FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE launches today on GeForce NOW, bringing the series’ classic roots into a cinematic pixel-art world. Travel with companions bound by fate and uncover the truth behind a force threatening to bring everything to ruin. Dynamic camera angles and pixelized 3D models give familiar fantasy a fresh perspective. Exploit enemy weaknesses to stagger foes, break their defenses and seize extra turns before finishing the bonus phase with powerful Resonance attacks. Airships, crystals, espers and moogles bring familiar series favorites to a world filled with secrets to discover. GeForce NOW handles the game’s downloads and storage in the cloud, leaving more space on supported devices for everyday essentials. Save the inventory management for potions and Phoenix Downs. Step Into a New Season in Tamriel Familiar lands. Fresh reasons to return. These new settings are available in the GeForce NOW app under settings, for Windows, macOS, Chrome OS and Steam OS platforms. Members can read here for more details on using the feature with their membership tier, and more information on how to get the smoothest cloud game streaming for some games on GeForce NOW. The title brings improvements to existing systems, alongside expansions in combat with nine new spells, new mage and archer skills, reworked wands and upgradeable Eternal spells and arrows. New enemy variants keep encounters fresh, while a new biome raises the player level cap to 50 and equipment cap to 55.Ā  GeForce NOW offers Enshrouded 1.0 ready to play in the cloud at launch across supported devices. Skip the 60GB local install to save precious storage space, then step into the Shroud without waiting for downloads or needing to make room for the update. Let the Bolts Fly Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is now streaming on GeForce NOW. The brutal, fast-paced sequel to the retro first-person shooter brings more enemies, more weapons and new ways to purge. Picking up directly after the original game, a branching single-player campaign sends the fight to grimdark new worlds. Title: First look inside the Prism Collection, with three new transparent designs for PS5 accessories Date: Wed, 28 Oct 2026 15:00:33 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/10/28/first-look-inside-the-prism-collection-with-three-new-transparent-designs-for-ps5-accessories/ Get ready to see your PS5 console and DualSense controller in a whole new way. Today, we are pleased to introduce the Prism Collection, featuring three striking transparent designs for DualSense wireless controllers and PS5 console covers: Flare Orange, Emerald Green, and Graphite Gray. The new collection was inspired by our design teams’ interest to bring a transparent appearance to PS5, and give players a closer look into the design and craftsmanship behind our DualSense controllers and PlayStation 5 consoles. From bold Flare Orange to elegant Emerald Green and stylish Graphite Gray, each color is finished with a premium glossy sheen for a sleek and elevated design. To share more about our creative process behind the new design, here are insights from Leo Cardoso and Satoshi Aoyagi from our Color, Material, and Finish design team. “We know how much our fans have been looking forward to the return of transparent controllers. We wanted to bring back the iconic see-through trend of the late ’90s in a fresh, modern way that complements the PS5’s industrial design.ā€ – Leo Cardoso ā€œThe high-gloss clear finish extends across the back of the controller, offering a look at the technology that powers the DualSense controller while maintaining a sleek, monochromatic look. The metallic finish on the middle cover brings the contrasting surfaces together for a premium appearance that feels consistent with the PS5 generation. To complement the futuristic aesthetic, we carefully selected three distinct colors: a vibrant orange that subtly takes on a rosy hue where the transparent material overlaps, a deep hunter green that gains depth through its transparency, and a cool-toned storm gray.ā€ – Satoshi Aoyagi View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image View and download image Download the image close Close Download this image The Prism Collection DualSense wireless controllers will be available globally for a recommended retail price (RRP) of $84.99 USD / Ā„12,480 (including tax) / €84.99 / Ā£74.99.* The matching PS5 console covers will be available exclusively directly from PlayStation where available** and in other regions in limited quantities through select retailers for a RRP of $74.99 USD / Ā„9,980(including tax) / €74.99 / Ā£64.99.* The Prism Collection launches starting on February 4, 2027. Title: Suit up as Astro Bot in Rayman Legends Retold Date: Wed, 28 Oct 2026 13:01:45 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/10/28/suit-up-as-astro-bot-in-rayman-legends-retold/ Rayman Legends Retold is coming to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro on December 3, and Astro Bot’s iconic design is featured in the game as an exclusive costume, bringing the iconic platformer pairing full circle after Rayman made a cameo in Astro Bot (2024). The PS5-exclusive Astro Bot costume in Rayman Legends Retold will be available for free on players’ first visit to Victor Velour, the game’s resident tailor, at his costume shop. The outfit is once again a collaboration between Ubisoft Milan, Ubisoft Montpellier, and Team Asobi. We sat down with Guillaume Arvieu, Art and World Director on Rayman Legends Retold, and Quentin Chaillet, Lead Character Artist, to discuss the collaboration, how the costume was created, and the DNA shared by two platforming icons. Play Video Talk us through the Astro Bot skin design in Rayman Legends Retold – how did you approach capturing the essence of Astro Bot within your own art style?   Chaillet: One of the biggest challenges was bringing Astro Bot’s sleek, futuristic aesthetic into Rayman’s universe. Rayman’s designs traditionally have a more handcrafted, organic feel, so introducing these glossy surfaces, metallic details, and high-tech materials was something quite different from what we’re used to. We wanted to stay as faithful as possible to Astro Bot’s iconic design while making sure it still felt authentically Rayman. That meant carefully adapting the shapes and proportions, especially his large nose, no arms / legs, and his big shoes, which are such recognizable parts of Rayman’s silhouette. The goal was to incorporate as many of Astro Bot’s signature details as possible, from the reflective metallic parts and glowing blue elements to the smooth white surfaces, without losing Rayman’s personality or expressiveness. It was a really interesting exercise in finding the right balance between two very different visual identities and making them feel like they naturally belong together. In your own words, what DNA do Astro Bot and Rayman share?   Arvieu: Astro Bot has truly established itself as a major player in the platforming genre, with an identity of its own. What I particularly appreciate is how generous the game is: the richness of its worlds, the creativity of its scenarios, and the constant joy of discovering new gameplay ideas.  This is something we also find in Rayman. Both games offer incredibly rich fantasy worlds, filled with diverse biomes that invite players to explore, discover, and experience a sense of wonder. They also place great importance on fluid movement, a variety of interactions, and the joy of mastering the possibilities available to the player. Beyond these similarities, I think our two franchises share, above all, the same spirit. They’re both colorful, creative games that are full of surprises and driven by positive values. They aim to evoke emotions, make people smile, and rekindle that almost instinctive sense of joy we feel when discovering a platformer bursting with ideas. These are games that make you feel good. They remind us that video games can be a wonderful source of joy, wonder, and shared experiences, whatever our age. Why do you think collaborations like this are important?  Arvieu: Since the early days of video games, creators have been inspiring one another. An idea, a gameplay mechanic, a character, or an artistic approach can spark new ideas and open up unexpected possibilities. It’s an ongoing exchange that fuels our collective creativity. Collaborations like this make that exchange tangible. They allow us to celebrate the work of other teams, bring together worlds that are close to our hearts, and create moments players might never have imagined otherwise. It’s a virtuous circle: everyone brings their own perspective, ideas, and expertise to the table, and we all grow from the experience. Ultimately, it’s the players who benefit, discovering new encounters and sharing in the joy of seeing their favorite characters come together. Rayman has a long history behind him and holds a special place in the hearts of many players, particularly those who first discovered him on the original PlayStation. Astro Bot, meanwhile, celebrates this legacy while establishing its own identity with a new generation of players. Seeing these two worlds come together is therefore also a way of bringing different generations of players together. It’s a little nod to the history of video games, but also a wonderful illustration of the medium’s ability to reinvent itself and continue to surprise us. Rayman Legends Retold is coming to PS5 and PS5 Pro December 3, 2026. Embark on a bold reimagining of the beloved platformer, with new visuals and a retold story. Play solo or up to 4player couch coop, explore a mysterious new realm, jam through new musical stages, and more.

Title: Aloft and Conan Exiles Enhanced launch on PS5 in early 2027 Date: Tue, 27 Oct 2026 16:00:43 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/10/27/aloft-and-conan-exiles-enhanced-launch-on-ps5-in-early-2027/ We’ve just launched Dune: Awakening on PlayStation 5, but we’re only getting started. We’re excited to bring two more of our open-world survival adventures to PlayStation 5 in early 2027. Soar the skies in Aloft, then visit the unforgiving Exiled Lands in Conan Exiles Enhanced. Aloft: Build a home among the clouds Play Video After six years of heartfelt development with a team that grew from a small group of friends to the Astrolabe of today, we are ecstatic to reveal that our cozy co-op sandbox survival game in the clouds, Aloft, makes its console debut with Funcom as a publisher on PS5 early 2027. The PS5 version includes all the updates released during the game’s Early Access period on PC, as well as the 1.0 experience, bringing our complete vision of Aloft to life, filled with new content, stories, and so many improvements. Turn floating islands into skyships, build a home among the clouds, and explore a colorful open world alone or with friends. Since launching in Early Access, we have introduced five major content updates to Aloft, featuring new wildlife, puzzles, combat improvements, glider customization, expanded exploration, and much more. Discover lost knowledge, cure fungal corruption, care for your animals, brave hurricanes as you restore the ecosystem and uncover new adventures across the skies. Launching the complete game on PS5 marks an exciting new chapter for us. Aloft has always been a passion project fueled by the unwavering support and love of our community. Reaching this milestone is incredibly exciting, as this will mark a new era for the game – we really hope you will be part of our flight. Conan Exiles Enhanced: Survive the brutal, yet beautiful Exiled Lands We are thrilled to announce that Conan Exiles Enhanced is coming to PS5. All players who own Conan Exiles on PlayStation will get the Enhanced version for PlayStation 5 for free. Both PS4 and PS5 versions will be available to purchase. We’ll share release dates and more details for both games at a later date. Wishlist both games now at PlayStation Store.
Title: Where Winds Meet’s climactic Hutuo Battlefield narrative arc revealed, out Nov 13 Date: Tue, 27 Oct 2026 15:01:34 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/10/27/where-winds-meets-climactic-hutuo-battlefield-narrative-arc-revealed-out-nov-13/ Today, we are proud to unveil the most climactic narrative arc in Where Winds Meet yet: Hutuo, a sprawling new region launching November 13 alongside the game’s first global anniversary update. Marking a major turning point in Where Winds Meet, Hutuo invites you onto an epic, war-torn frontier to experience a story of unwavering conviction, camaraderie, and the true meaning of heroism. Play Video Defining ā€˜Xia’: From martial arts to universal heroism When we first set out to build Where Winds Meet, our aspiration was to reimagine Wuxia—a genre long confined mostly to classic cinema—as a living, breathing Jianghu for a global audience. Nothing has moved us more than seeing wanderers worldwide find their own resonance within this realm: discovering what ā€˜Xia’ truly means through personal awakening, sacred promises, and the enduring longing for freedom. We reached an unforgettable milestone this August when the game welcomed over 100 million players worldwide and claimed Best Mobile Game at Gamescom. Being the first to bring an authentic Wuxia open world to the global stage has been a deeply humbling journey, proving that the spirit of this genre speaks to hearts across every border. Yet our vision goes beyond combat choreography and ancient traditions. With Hutuo, we wanted to delve deeper into the spiritual core of ā€˜Xia’ (Chivalry)—exploring how sacrifice and guardianship reflect a universal heroism that resonates across all cultures. Nowhere is this clearer than in the story we tell at the battle of Zhongdu Bridge. Here, you step into a desperate historical crossroads: northern invaders are surging across the border, frontline defenses are fracturing, and old pacts lie in ruins. With displaced civilians behind you and an unstoppable tide of steel ahead, loyalty and justice pull in opposite directions. A haunting question arises: when the powers above fail, do you fight in blind obedience to a crumbling throne, or rise alongside sworn companions to shield the innocent and guard your homeland? How you answer that call captures what we believe is the truest, most profound essence of ā€˜Xia’. The Hutuo Battlefield: Uncovering light in the ashes To anchor this theme, we shifted our world design to craft an authentic, mud-and-steel warzone unlike anything seen in the game before. We focused heavily on immersive environmental storytelling and quest design, allowing players to experience the wartime Jianghu from varied perspectives. Whether stepping into the shoes of a conflicted soldier defying brutal orders, listening to a haunting song of displaced survivors among the river reeds, or witnessing nameless folk risk their lives to shelter refugees in the night, each tale captures a distinct facet of the frontier. Even in the darkest corners of history, we wanted these intimate stories to uncover the enduring light of ordinary lives, showcasing the quiet dignity and everyday bravery of people surviving the storm of war. Immersive warfare: PS5 & PS5 Pro enhancements To make every clash across this frontier feel immediate and visceral, we have tailored dedicated technical upgrades for PlayStation players: PS5 Pro & enhanced PSSR: Utilizing enhanced PSSR alongside upgraded ray-traced reflections, Hutuo’s rivers and wetlands look more striking than ever at a stable 60 FPS, bringing fire and falling ash vividly to life across uneven, mud-soaked reflections beneath your feet. Tactile combat & responsiveness: DualSense adaptive triggers and haptics lend physical weight to every drawn war-bow and clashing blade, while reduced frame hitches during effects-heavy battles keep your parries, combos, and dodges razor-sharp. Seamless battlefield scale: Optimized asynchronous asset streaming drastically cuts load times across fast-travel points, dungeons, and cinematic transitions—ensuring your charge into Hutuo’s core warzones remains smooth and uninterrupted. Yuen Woo-ping’s dual spears & a historic first anniversary Experiencing the emotional peak of Where Winds Meet goes hand-in-hand with our biggest celebration yet. Arriving November 13, our first anniversary update delivers the most generous historic rewards since launch, alongside fun and tactical new board game modes like Horse Racing Chess and Jianghu Tactics. The celebration continues on late November with the debut of the Dual Spears Martial Art. Directed and choreographed by legendary action director Yuen Woo-ping (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), this dynamic style alternates fluidly between offensive Light Spears and stance-breaking Heavy Spears, building Spear Stance for relentless combo loops. Want an early look at the front lines? Tune in to our First Anniversary Special Broadcast on November 2, where our team will share deeper developer insights and exclusive gameplay reveals for Hutuo.

Title: Hot Wax sets fire to the Tetris playbook with slow-burn puzzle mechanics and a dollop of eldritch menace Date: Wed, 28 Oct 2026 13:30:00 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/hot-wax-sets-fire-to-the-tetris-playbook-with-slow-burn-puzzle-mechanics-and-a-dollop-of-eldritch-menace Over the past couple of weeks, I've been conscious of an eerie background humming and hissing. For a while I thought it was just tinnitus, brought on by one too many listens of Control's Ashtray Maze OST, but then I realised that it was actually RPS regular quasiotter whispering in my ear about Hot Wax, which launches on Steam this week after a spell of Itch.io exclusivity. It's the new arcade puzzler from PUNKCAKE Délicieux, otherwise known for inflicting shotguns on chess and forcing the alphabet to wear trousers in the name of archaeology, somehow. Hot Wax is actually quite straightforward by PUNKCAKE standards. It's Tetris, but all the blocks are candles, and rather than filling a line on the grid to clear blocks, you have to plant unpredictably dropped flames on wicks to slowly sizzle the mass away. Relatively straightforward, yes, but fiddly in practice. Did I mention that you're doing all this in a temple, under the eye of a "not unfriendly" eldritch god? Read more
Title: "We basically rewrote the entire State of Decay game": Undead Labs spent years trying to make State of Decay 3 into a full-blown zombie apocalypse MMO Date: Wed, 28 Oct 2026 12:30:00 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/we-basically-rewrote-the-entire-state-of-decay-game-undead-labs-spent-years-trying-to-make-state-of-decay-3-into-a-full-blown-zombie-apocalypse-mmo State of Decay 3 was announced with a snazzy cinematic trailer all the way back in 2020. The open-world zombie game was due to move to colder climes, where you would face undead deer and survive the frigid elements. We've since learned that the teaser bore very little resemblance to what was actually being worked on, and was pushed out the door to plump up a Microsoft showcase. However, what the teaser also didn't reveal was that Undead Labs' ideas for the game were much larger in scope than the two survival games that came before. For several years they were trying to make State of Decay 3 into an MMO that captured the scale of a global zombie apocalypse. Read more
Title: "Creation without a creator": Pathologic 3's devs have refused to patch an invisible apple tree, and for a blissful moment, I thought they were lying to poison Google's AI Date: Wed, 28 Oct 2026 11:40:49 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/creation-without-a-creator-pathologic-3s-devs-have-refused-to-patch-an-invisible-apple-tree-and-for-a-blissful-moment-i-thought-they-were-lying-to-poison-googles-ai Magnificent, depressing plague colony fable Pathologic 3 has received a sizeable game update that adds some new difficulty modes, a photo feature, and some new, worryingly folkloric methods of defeating a murky embodiment of disease. Developers Ice Pick Lodge have also staunchly refused to remove an invisible apple tree, describing this apparently "famous" bug as a hallmark of a game whose "symbolic nature has almost overtaken its function as a product". This appears to be the last major update for Pathologic 3, so that invisible apple tree is staying in the game forever. I confess, when I first read the Steam blog in question, I doubted. The thing about invisible apple trees is that they are quite easy to confuse with apple trees that are simply not there. Pathologic in general is a house of lies: as Quintin Smith (RPS in peace) put it in his legendary Butchering Pathologic trilogy, "absolutely everybody has an angle, everyone's bending the truth and trying to twist you round their fingers." Pathologic 3 especially is a purgatorial time travel story that must be continually rewritten, a crock of festering rumours enclosed by an enormous, phantom theatre. As such, I read Ice-Pick's typically professorial account of the "invisible apple tree" with intense suspicion. Read more
Title: Leaked Mass Effect 5 trailer is being "re-scored" by one of the original trilogy's composers, so folks can get a taste of his musical vision for the game Date: Wed, 28 Oct 2026 10:31:35 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/leaked-mass-effect-5-trailer-is-being-re-scored-by-one-of-the-original-trilogys-composers-so-folks-can-get-a-taste-of-his-musical-vision-for-the-game One of the composers who contributed to the scores of the original Mass Effect trilogy has decided to re-soundtrack the Mass Effect Universe trailer which leaked following the game's cancellation and BioWare's closure. Sam Hulick's aim, aside from making this year's N7 Day a tiny bit less depressing if he can deliver as planned, is to share some of his "musical vision" for the RPG. Read more
Title: Part idle game, part automation game, Moon Sweepers exploits the sickness in me that adores both Satisfactory and Cookie Clicker Date: Wed, 28 Oct 2026 09:30:00 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/part-idle-game-part-automation-game-moon-sweepers-exploits-the-sickness-in-me-that-adores-both-satisfactory-and-cookie-clicker When Edwin talked about Moon Sweepers yesterday he focused on the artisanal approach to space rock cleaning. Like the puritan he is, he wants to wipe away all the dust on the moon using a toothbrush. He says you should take pride in your work, stick one spacesuit-clad middle finger up to the machines and say 'Fuck off, robots. Let me show you my art!" as you get down on all fours and brush away moon dust. I've taken a different approach. Read more
