Title: Control Resonant Has No Parry Mechanic And I Don’t Know How To Feel About That Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 13:18:20 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/control-resonant-has-no-parry-mechanic-and-i-dont-know-how-to-feel-about-that/ Nothing beats the satisfying feeling of successfully parrying an attack, but don't expect to rely on that counter in Control Resonant. In fact, the game features no parry gameplay mechanic at all, as developer Remedy Entertainment wants players to get into the thick of things and chase enemies down in the follow-up to Control. Speaking to IGN, game director Mikael Kasurinen confirmed that players won't be able to deflect any attacks in the upcoming action-RPG. Remedy did experiment with using that mechanic in the game, but it ultimately didn't fit their vision for a fast-paced action game. "The idea behind the combat system of Control Resonant is that offense is the best defense," Remedy said. The studio added that when it prototyped a parry in the game, action slowed down as players waited for enemies to make the first move, instead of initiating an attack and pushing forward. Players will have plenty of options available to them with the Aberrant--a Swiss-army knife of offensive potential--as they can deal out quick attacks with dual blades or smash through defenses by transforming the tool into a cartoonishly massive hammer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLr0QNBx87o&pp=ygUZZ2FtZXNwb3QgY29udHJvbCByZXNvbmFudA%3D%3D Not having any options to parry is something of a rarity in modern-day action games. Dark Souls developer From Software created one of the best-feeling versions of the mechanic in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Doom: The Dark Ages had first-person deflections with the brutal Shield Saw, and the recent release Beast of Reincarnation also has a gratifying option for bouncing attacks back at enemies. Parrying has become very commonplace in modern action games, so not including it is somewhat unusual. Control Resonant launches on September 24, but if you're planning to get the game for PlayStation 5, preordering the $70 digital deluxe edition will unlock 48 hours of early access to the game. For more on the next title from Remedy Entertainment, you can explore how Control Resonant deals with heavy themes of trauma and redemption.
Title: More Lord Of The Rings Game Re-Releases Are Coming Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 13:07:21 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/more-lord-of-the-rings-game-re-releases-are-coming/ Aspyr Media shadowdropped a new "Legacy Edition" of the 2011 The Lord of the Rings game, War in the North, earlier this week. It won't be the last The Lord of the Rings re-release from Aspyr, as the company has confirmed "even more classic releases" from The Lord of the Rings series are coming "in the future." That's all Aspyr had to say, so it's anyone's guess as to the other "classic" The Lord of the Rings games that could make a return. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_gZuaXTDEo War in the North's Legacy Edition was released under a licensing deal with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and marks Aspyr's first The Lord of the Rings release. Other LOTR games released around the same time as War in the North from WBIE included Aragorn's Quest (2010), Guardians of Middle-earth (2012), Lego The Lord of the Rings (2012), and Lego The Hobbit (2014). Going back earlier, when EA held the license for the fantasy IP, there were titles like The Lord of the Rings: Conquest (2009), The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth (2004), and its 2006 sequel. EA also developed and published games based on Peter Jackson's LOTR film trilogy. In addition to the re-releases of older games, brand-new The Lord of the Rings games are coming, including a "deeply immersive" RPG from Kingdom Come developer Warhorse.  Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics is said to be developing one as well.
Title: PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium Games For August 2026 Includes Helldivers 2 Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 12:24:29 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-plus-extra-premium-games-for-august-2026-revealed/ Sony is set to reveal the next batch of games coming to the Game Catalog for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium in August, but we already know of one of them: Helldivers 2. Developer Arrowhead announced that its hit action game about bringing Managed Democracy to other worlds will be available through the Game Catalog starting August 12. An influx of fresh recruits is perfect timing, as the Helldivers 2 community is being challenged to collectively eliminate 500 million enemies by August 18 to unlock four Helldiver PlayStation avatars. Today also marks the release of a new expansion within the co-op shooter, Devoid of Liberty. This new content will see players venture into the haunted abyss of the Void to destroy Illuminate spires and gateways, exterminate new threats, and gain new ranks along the way. As usual, the new titles will be added to the Game Catalog every few days throughout the month. PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Games for August 2026 Helldivers 2 Helldivers 2 (PS5) More to be announced soon PlayStation Plus Premium PS Classics To be announced soon As a reminder, nine games will exit PlayStation Plus on August 18. Time is running out, so if you haven't checked out Dead Island 2, Harold Halibut, or Unicorn Overlord yet, you only have a few more days left to do so. You can also grab three games right now through any tier of PlayStation Plus--Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, For the King 2, and CrossCode.
Title: Phantom Blade Zero State Of Play Set For Next Week, And Yes, That’s Donnie Yen In The New Trailer Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 10:41:52 +0000 Link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/phantom-blade-zero-state-of-play-set-for-next-week-and-yes-thats-donnie-yen-in-the-new-trailer/ Sony has announced a new State of Play broadcast for next week, and this time, the spotlight is on Phantom Blade Zero. Kicking off on August 17 at 7 PM PT / 10 PM ET, Sony says that viewers can expect a deep dive into the game ahead of its release on October 29. To set the stage, a new preorder trailer for the game was shown off, revealing action movie legend Donnie Yen and the role he played behind the scenes of the game. While Yen provided the likeness and motion capture for the character Mó Yuan, the father of Phantom Blade Zero's protagonist, he has also served as a creative consultant on the game since 2023, according to developer S-Game. If you're unfamiliar with him, Yen has cemented his status as an icon of cinema with his hard-hitting action movies and slick choreography in projects like Kill Zone, Iron Monkey, Blade 2, and the Ip Man series. https://youtu.be/aOU7KOPGVYU S-Game added that the State of Play livestream will introduce new characters from the game, as well as a closer look at the buildcrafting that players can utilize to fine-tune their approach to combat. If you're planning to watch, you'll probably want to switch the comments off, as virtually every Sony platform has been besieged by angry comments demanding that the company reverse its decision to end game disc production in 2028. While the backlash to the move has been mostly negative, Sony is still committed to an all-digital future for game releases on PlayStation hardware. Originally scheduled to launch on September 9, Phantom Blade Zero was delayed to October instead--most likely a safer move, given the sheer number of high-profile games out next month. Inspired by Chinese Wuxia action movies, the game features fast-paced combat and an imaginative dark fantasy aesthetic.

Title: Armored Core 2 Was Ahead of Its Time in One Important Way Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 13:00:12 GMT Link: https://www.polygon.com/armored-core-2-25th-anniversary/ There’s something strangely appropriate about how Armored Core 2 isn't remembered with the same affection as other entries in FromSoftware's long-running mech series. It is, after all, a game all about machines caught between old and new worlds. Released for the PlayStation 2 in October 2000, the fourth outing in the franchise (despite its name) was Armored Core's first major step into a new generation, marking an ambitious transition that can be felt throughout the experience.
Title: Steam is Getting an Absurd New Vampire Survivors Clone in 2 Weeks Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 12:00:12 GMT Link: https://www.polygon.com/blood-dungeon-steam-release-date/ When I first played Vampire Survivors, it was a revelation for me. It wasn’t just that the small-scale indie game felt like the beginning of a brand-new genre; it was more that it did wonders for my anxiety. It got me through many five-hour flights, because playing it is an act of time travel. You sit down, tune everything in the world out, and realize that hours have passed by in minutes. I’ve kept up with the “bullet heaven” subgenre that developer Poncle has inspired since, spending time with games like Brotato and Megabonk, but nothing has scratched that itch in quite the same way.
Title: Doctor Who Should Leave David Tennant Alone As He Isn't Going to Save the Franchise Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 11:40:45 GMT Link: https://www.polygon.com/doctor-who-reboot-david-tennant/ Being a Doctor Who fan over the past few years has been a lesson in patience and disappointment. The latter intensified tenfold when we learned that, for all intents and purposes, the long-running sci-fi show has been canceled indefinitely. While it may end up being the best thing for the franchise — especially if whoever takes the series next actually has fresh ideas — that doesn't mean we particularly enjoy the prospect of no more Doctor Who on our TV screens for the next five to ten years.
Title: Sydney Sweeney's Forgotten R-Rated 89-Minute Thriller Is Officially Streaming on Netflix Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 11:00:12 GMT Link: https://www.polygon.com/sydney-sweeney-immaculate-netflix-horror-movie/ Sydney Sweeney is one of the most notorious actresses of her generation. Launched to fame by Euphoria, like many of her co-stars, she’s starred in some of the industry’s largest box office successes in recent years. Her work spans romantic comedies and thrillers, but she’s also taken on a producer’s role and had a say in the creative process for many of her movies.

Title: Best in Class: Stream PC Games and Study on the Same Laptop With GeForce NOW Date: Thu, 30 Jul 2026 13:00:20 +0000 Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-back-to-school-2026/ Back to school means balancing assignments, deadlines and downtime. GeForce NOW makes it easy to have it all. With cloud gaming, everyday laptops used for class can also become GeForce RTX-powered gaming setups.  When it’s time to switch from studying to gaming, members can jump into Halo: Campaign Evolved, as GeForce NOW is bringing one of the gaming world’s most celebrated titles to nearly any device through the cloud, alongside eight total games joining the GeForce NOW library this week. From A+ to AAA Gaming  This back-to-school season, the easiest upgrade isn’t replacing laptops in backpacks. It’s unlocking even more from these same laptops, from creating to gaming. With a GeForce NOW membership, Chromebooks, Macs and Surface devices can become GeForce RTX-powered gaming PCs in the cloud. The GeForce NOW library features thousands of supported PC games, letting members stream titles they already own from digital stores like Steam, Xbox PC Game Pass and Epic Games Store in just a few clicks. The cloud keeps games up to date and ready to play, making it easy to jump into a match between classes, after homework or whenever there’s free time. Time spent waiting on downloads, patches and installs becomes time spent in game instead. The Ultimate membership enables best-in-class experiences by delivering 5080-class performance in the cloud with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies for responsive, visually rich gameplay — all on the hardware gamers already own. A creator known as “Menguiny” recently put this to the test after picking up a MacBook Neo. GeForce NOW turned the laptop — usually the creator’s go-to for editing videos and everyday work — into a top-notch gaming machine, too. Another creator, “TechWithSeong” highlighted that same versatility GeForce NOW offers. Rather than juggling separate devices for work and gaming, he used GeForce NOW Ultimate to stream supported PC games across the devices he already owns — from a MacBook used for editing to gaming on the go with handheld devices. Gamers can start with a day pass and experience all the premium benefits without a monthly commitment. Plus, the cost of a day pass can be applied toward a first membership purchase — it’s like earning a little extra credit along the way. Everyone, at Their Stations Needlers never looked so sharp. Experience the Master Chief’s iconic journey on GeForce NOW in Halo: Campaign Evolved — a modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign — rebuilt with high-definition visuals, updated cinematics and refined gameplay. Whether discovering Halo for the first time or returning after 25 years to finish the fight, it’s as the Master Chief says: “We’re just getting started.” Crash-land on the mysterious ringworld alongside Cortana and uncover great secrets while battling overwhelming Covenant forces. Fight through the rebuilt campaign, then continue the adventure with three brand-new missions featuring the Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. Expanded weapons, iconic vehicles, hijackable Wraith tanks and optional Skull modifiers offer even more ways to play. Suit up across PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs and more with GeForce NOW Ultimate, powered by GeForce RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud. Experience Halo with NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies delivering higher frame rates and ultralow latency that keep every firefight feeling responsive and worthy of a Spartan. Title: GeForce NOW Turns Up the Heat With New GeForce RTX 5080-Powered Toronto Server Date: Thu, 09 Jul 2026 13:00:55 +0000 Link: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/geforce-now-thursday-toronto-expansion/ This GFN Thursday brings more games, more power and more ways to play on GeForce NOW.  The cloud gaming service is expanding with a new GeForce RTX 5080-powered server in Toronto, bringing dedicated high performance in the cloud closer to members across the region. NTE: Neverness to Everness also gets an update in the cloud, making it even easier to jump into the latest content from the supernatural adventure without a single download or more storage space needed. It leads the way for GeForce NOW bringing native touch control to the game, coming soon. There’s even more to explore with three new games joining the GeForce NOW library this week.  Take It to the Next Level in Toronto The forecast is looking cloudy in Canada. A new GeForce RTX 5080-powered GeForce NOW server is coming to Toronto, expanding service in the region and bringing dedicated cloud gaming performance closer to local members. The new server will roll out within days, giving more players access to top-tier cloud gaming across Canada. Ultimate members can stream across PCs, Macs, handhelds, mobile devices, TVs and more with GeForce RTX 5080-class power in the cloud. Enjoy up to 4K resolution and beyond on supported ultrawide displays, up to 120 frames per second, plus NVIDIA DLSS, ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex technologies.  Bring on the ‘999 Nights’ Reality bends — on any device. Step into the surreal world of NTE: Neverness to Everness with the NTE Version 1.2 “999 Nights” update.  This version introduces a massive gameplay evolution, plunging players into an immersive, tabletop-inspired fantasy role-playing game on the Warren Continent — a new permanent game mode featuring its own dedicated progression system. This narrative and mechanical expansion is elevated by the debut of two powerful characters, Shinku and Iroi, alongside an unprecedented fashion upgrade featuring a sweeping collection of 19 new character outfits. To top it off, exploration gets a high-octane upgrade with Draco, a revolutionary new motorcycle vehicle, making this version an absolute playground for combat strategy, stylish customization and high-speed urban traversal.  Plus, GeForce NOW will soon be rolling out native touch controls to NTE: Neverness to Everness, which will make it even easier to explore the city’s mysteries from supported mobile devices. Look for the game in the GeForce NOW app to seamlessly jump between devices and continue the adventure — no downloads, storage space or expensive additional hardware required. Embark on Expanded Adventures The journey continues in Granblue Fantasy: Relink with the Endless Ragnarok expansion. Known for its dynamic combat, diverse roster of Skyfarers and thrilling online co-op, Relink returns with fresh story content as mysterious beings known as the Ragnalia threaten the Zegagrande Skydom. Strange gateways, powerful new foes — including the mighty Beelzebub — and fresh challenges await across the skies. The expansion also introduces additional ways to play, including summon abilities that add another layer of combat strategy, co-op quest tiers and a solo mode filled with unpredictable encounters. Master traits offer more opportunities to customize favorite characters, giving both longtime Skyfarers and newcomers plenty of reasons to take flight. Jump into the latest action with the following games to play this week: Esports Manager 2026 (New release on Steam, available July 6) Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced (New release on Steam and Ubisoft Connect, available July 9) Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok Demo (Steam) As GeForce NOW continues to expand, so does the community discovering cloud gaming. One new Ultimate member summed up their first impressions: “Finally caved and got GFN Ultimate… and wow.” Another longtime PC gamer shared how GeForce NOW completely changed their perspective after years of skepticism, calling it “a good alternative” for casual players and encouraging others to “try the one month and upgrade to the yearly before the sale ends.” What are you planning to play this weekend? Today’s new  extended trailer isn’t enough to cover our intricate gameplay systems, dynamic combat, and the dark wuxia land we call the Phantom World. That’s why our upcoming State of Play takes a much closer look at what you can expect from Phantom Blade Zero. You may have recognized a familiar face at the end of the pre-order trailer. Title: No Man’s Sky developer Hello Games celebrates 10-year anniversary Date: Mon, 10 Aug 2026 15:00:33 +0000 Link: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/10/no-mans-sky-developer-hello-games-celebrates-10-year-anniversary/ I feel surprisingly emotional today. Ten years ago, on 9th August 2016, PlayStation Travellers across the universe set foot on their first alien planet in No Man’s Sky. The first words from their exosuit rang out in their helmet: “Hazard protection active”. Perhaps you were there ten years ago, or perhaps you joined later. All around the universe, other Travellers have woken up on countless other planets, light years apart from each other. They took their first steps on their first planet and brought a new unexplored universe into existence together.Since then, millions of players have made No Man’s Sky their home, built insane bases, built communities, made friends, and created custom ships that look like everything from Spongebob Squarepants to entire Cathedrals. Play Video Over the last decade, the No Man’s Sky players have joined us in another type of journey as we grew, expanded and deepened what No Man’s Sky could be. With now 40 major updates, all free, we have expanded our sandbox universe with base-building, exocraft, settlements, mechs, pets, living ships, expeditions and rebuilt the universe several times over. On PlayStation we introduced support for PSVR, then PS5, and then PSVR2. Allowing players to immerse themselves in the universe in much deeper ways. PlayStation Travellers have been there since the dawn of this new universe; it’s kind of our Big Bang moment! Since then, tens of millions of Travellers have spent hundreds of millions of hours exploring and sharing their discoveries and the universe is more vibrant now than it ever has been. Voyagers released last year saw more players than we’ve had since launch… and still, all these years later players have explored less than 1% of the planets in No Man’s Sky.In a similar way our small team feels we have a lot left to explore in what No Man’s Sky can be. In the background we are busy cooking on our next game Light No Fire, and big things for the future of No Man’s Sky. More will follow! Our journey continues. The co-op shooter’s big new update, Devoid of Liberty, sees the intergalactic nasties throwing out two new mutant enemies to fight on the field, while your bosses on Super Earth deploy better equipped, better trained, generally less all-round useless infantry troops to help you out. Title: Saber admit Rideshare "Stimulator" features generative AI writing, but deny they replaced taxi game's lead writer with ChatGPT Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 10:30:00 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/saber-admit-ridershare-stimulator-features-generative-ai-writing-but-deny-they-replaced-taxi-games-lead-writer-with-chatgpt When Saber revealed Rideshare "Stimulator", Oisin was guardedly interested in the unofficial Uber simulator. You play a taxi operator picking up and dropping passengers around town while listening to their stimulating conversation. You thought the name referred to a different kind of stimulation? Get your head out of the gutter. Though, maybe not too far out of the gutter. After all, since its reveal, Rideshare's gained more attention for its odd swipes at Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford and that time he left a USB stick at a Medieval Times restaurant which contained sensitive business documents and videos he described as "barely legal porn". Saber CEO Matt Karch told Gamefile “The dig is because Randy took shots at Embracer in Borderlands 4. Without Embracer, Randy is performing magic tricks at birthday parties for a living.” However, now Rideshare is coming under even greater scrutiny because the game's former lead writer, Stella Sacco, said on Bluesky that "Saber replaced me with ChatGPT midway through development". And, while Saber denies her account, they have admitted the game features generative AI. Use they've not disclosed on the game's Steam listing, contravening Valve's AI policy. Read more
Title: All Haul The King is a co-op comedy corpse-dragging simulator from the makers of Eclipsium, one of 2025's best horror games Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 09:43:17 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/all-haul-the-king-is-a-co-op-comedy-corpse-dragging-simulator-from-the-makers-of-eclipsium-one-of-2025s-best-horror-games "That game with the massive dead body was created using generative AI!" roared the masses. "Oh shucks," said I, "Don't worry, I'll soon find another massive dead body game to write about." Reader, never let it be said that I am not as good as my word. In All Haul The King, players team up to drag the huge, elastic carcass of a goblin sovereign from one end of the world to the other. Your goal is to get him onto the Throne of Resurrection. This might go easier if you transform him into an anvil. Anvils don't wobble around quite so much, after all. Here is a trailer. Read more
Title: Spaceship bullet heaven Seven Suns of Orion has what Vampire Survivors lacks: semi-Newtonian physics and railguns Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2026 08:00:00 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/spaceship-bullet-heaven-seven-suns-of-orion-has-what-vampire-survivors-lacks-semi-newtonian-physics-and-railguns I don't truly want to say a bad word about Vampire Survivors. I've adored the many hours I've spent in its endearingly slapdash dungeons. It's also responsible for spawning a thousand imitators, many of which I have also poured hours of my life into playing. But, for all of its joys and successes, I can't defend its lack of railguns. I don't know what Poncle were thinking when they let you loose on a world filled with monsters and ghouls and didn't arm you with an electromagnetic gun that launches projectiles at more than 3 km/s. It may not be a stake doused in holy water, but I reckon the railgun in Seven Suns Of Orion would do just as good of a job against Dracula. Read more
Title: As Peak gets its final big update, developers Landfall and Aggro Crab explain why it isn't a "forever game" Date: Tue, 11 Aug 2026 21:54:38 +0000 Link: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/as-peak-gets-its-final-big-update-developers-landfall-and-aggro-crab-explain-why-it-isnt-a-forever-game We have reached peak Peak. By that I mean, the final major update that was teased last week, The Final Ascent, is here and ready for you to try out. The big thing here is the two new variant biomes, Gloom and The Citadel. Gloom, unsurprisingly, is an incredibly foggy area filled with massive trees, mysterious bells and ominous spikes, whereas The Citadel is mostly just that; a castle-like structure with swinging spiky balls, secret arrow traps and those floors where a bunch of spears shoot upwards and you have to time walking across them just right.
